Used to go to the Circle Star in San Carlos to see Smokey whenever he played there. The intimate theater, Smokey's voice, his interaction with the audience .. Stunning, time and time again. Best Shows Ever.
Smokey Robinson had the best performance in my opinion, but I wished he had performed being with you, or another one of his highlights, and I wished boys2men had sung end of the road or one sweet day for this one. It just feels a bit underwhelmed with the Motown brand on display here. Having mj and Diana Ross as guests would have been awesome for this.
I watched this live and I still have whiplash from the cringe I made at Martha Reeves. Nobody was smart or brave enough to pull the plug on that? Was everyone out getting coffee at her sound check?
I know, right!? Everyone is praising her like she sang so great, I thought she was awful! Sounds like someone was shaking her while she was singing… LOL
I was in this halftime show and had to perform to her song. All week during rehearsals we used a CD. Then at dress rehearsal, she finally sang live and we almost fell over laughing at how bad it was!

Martha Reeves and Otis Williams of the Temptations were there. The Four Tops were not there. And by "original singers," what do you mean? The groups as they were or you wish they had more acts from the label's heyday? Most of the acts from its earliest days were either disbanded, dead, or some of their members were dead. This was a mix of Motown acts for 1998 old and new. I think it was missing Stevie Wonder, it would have been better with him. Also don't forget the finale included Lil' Nique and DJ Jus who were signed to Motown as apart of the Biv 10 Pee Wee All Stars or Mag 7 group of kid rappers.
