Thanks for watching! I'm taking my girlfriend on a stay-over in Gothenburg the same day this video goes live, by effect I will be even worse at replying to comments than normal, sorry. BTW, that song partway into the vid, you know the one that sounds so bad. "Narkoman" by "Jokke" It really should be delivered that way, in my opinion. A heroin addicts struggle. Jokke OD'd and died just weeks after he recorded the original. RIP Jokke.

I frequently use a Torx key for those pesky non-standard sizes. For some reason they seem to counteract the American non-standardism. Fantastic to see your success with that engine - what a nice, easy starter it is. Looks like you are onto the right path again. All the best!!
@georgedreisch2662
@georgedreisch2662 Год назад
Have had that same issue. I wonder if it is for foreign interpretations of imperial sizes? As you said, torx, that have a taper incorporated and drive off of the tips of the spline, does make a work around, though annoying for the non-standardization. Have also found this a good solution to getting out stripped / worn Allen heads. I’ve gone so far as to take an extra set of tors bits, and squared the ends on a belt sander while spinning them in a drill to increase engagement. Tapping then into the socket essentially broaches the socket to size.

Thank you for the entertainment! Your dedication is inspiring! Just a tip If you want a bit more pump often I’ll use a larger fitting for pulse signal 1/4”or 5/16”hose and step the hose down to the carb port,or the same for external diaphragm pumps and do the opposite or add restrictions to the pulse line if crankcase pulse is too severe, maybe not necessary most of the time but can be helpful for odd jobs

@MacPoop Год назад
Just my 2 cents that probably aren't worth half a penny but I'll throw it out there anyway: After 10k+ RPM with that small crank pulley as the reluctor, you might possibly be running out of crank trigger resolution and the ignition is giving up past the threshold. I /have/ run into that before where Hall effect type just couldn't cope with the RPM below a certain reluctor wheel diameter. It's worth playing around with.. could always machine your own reluctor wheel to bolt onto the front of the existing pulley for more resolution, 3 to 4 inches across would be ideal
@hunnybunnysheavymetalmusic6542
I agree with this theory. Many electronic ignition systems have very fine, tight magnetic peaks on their reluctor wheels, and there are systems specifically designed for 1 and 2 cylinders for small aircraft engines and racing motorcycle applications, which would handle both the cylinder count as well as the speed, which have been engineered to maintain resolution at very high PRM.
@MacPoop
@MacPoop Год назад
I only happened to catch this looking at the on-screen tac, noticed the counter was getting quite weird readings right at 8k rpm and above, like it was having trouble calculating actual speed. But yeah, that'll definitely give you some erratic upper RPM ignition trouble like the other engine. I really do think it's worth looking into a bigger reluctor wheel before switching to an even bigger coil
@hunnybunnysheavymetalmusic6542
@@MacPoop A larger wheel, combined with a finer pass contact point and a stronger magnet would indeed increase the resolution immensely, but then, if one could just use a photodiode and a tiny little low power laser diode [although, I suppose, the shorter the pulse, the stronger the laser diode might need to actually be], then put a very tiny sliver of mirror, silver or polished aluminum, the strobe pulse could be as short as .01 degree of rotation. There would certainly have to be a shadow mask to eliminate scatter, and a really black coating on the rest of the wheel [which, at this point could even be non-metallic, very smooth, and thereby contribute neither to balance, collision, or air drag issues]. In fact, at such high RPMs, the strobe rate of the laser diode could pose a problem, so the frequency of pulses could present a problem, if, in fact, the layout was relying on an alternating or pulsing cycle power impulse into the laser diode. In this exact case, if possible, a constant, uninterrupted, DC polarity would certainly be the best option. So long as the diodes are securely mounted [I would suggest one 3D print a holder followed by potting the emitter and collector in resin to keep it from vibrating much the way a lot of electronic circuits are resin potted in automotive ignition systems already] they should not shake out of alignment.

The positive pulse from the engine pushes on the metering diaphragm that pushes on the needle opening it. It's not forced open by "pop off". Try removing the pump diaphragms and use gravity feed. You may have to make an adapter plate to route the fuel directly to the needle chamber.

One thing I think you will find very helpful for your engine is to add what is called a surge tank to the inlet between your supercharger and engine... it needs to be 4 times the engine displacement on a single cylinder engine. Remembered this from an old book on turbochargers. The tank is there to give the pump some extra room to pump air to during the period during the intake cycle when the inlet tract volume is too small, and greatly reduces the pressure pulses in the inlet tract, and reduces inlet heating.

You made my day! Timing lights seem to be forever breaking at the least opportune times….maybe use an in-line spark tester as a temporary stand in for the proper tool. You might need to shield/focus the pulses to throw enough light for reading timing marks, but it’s worth a go. You are an incredible teacher; now with less noses to wipe and fewer bodily fluid accidents! I am fairly certain that I’ve seen fire suppression equipment in past videos, but maybe it’s time for a more secure fuel tank and a handy fire bottle (thinking drag car style). Definitely would not want to see your sweet beard flash into dust from an avoidable issue. Take a day to bullet proof the nitro system and we’ll appreciate the wink and nod to safety.
