I compare a Dodge Challenger Hellcat to my 2020 Mustang GT Twin Turbo in an effort to determine if a supercharger or turbos are the better power adder. I give you the pro's and con's of both so you can make your own decision. Which would you go with?

TwinTurbo is better for crazy role racing higher horsepower numbers however a supercharger is better for in city light to light power it’s like a naturally aspirated engine on steroids a positive displacement blower will add about 200-40- real wheel horsepower (a 3.8 liter whipper predator makes 1280 whp a s550 5.0 get on 12 psi makes 850 whp) to your average V-8 turbos can add more but you have to build boost slight lag not bad on a huracan/r8 higher top end power. Turbos are more efficient since you’re spinning a turbine with otherwise wasted exhaust.

Supercharger VS Turbo depends on the usage and the platform. There's not really a clear answer. Then there's different type of superchargers and sizes just like turbos so it depends on what's it going on and what it's being used for.
@turbovolvos40
@turbovolvos40 3 года назад
Definitely turbo for me, you have to wait a little bit, but its totally worth it, and another benefit is variable boost, you can have it turned down usually to help keep everything alive longer, and then turn it up for a high speed roll race. Also the mustang with a 10 speed is ideal for twin turbos, keeping the turbos in boost.
@EPICYELLOWHORSE
@EPICYELLOWHORSE 3 года назад
Both are great. I have also owned both, but far as "potential' the TURBO would win an all out boost war with a taller torque curve all over a graph. (When comparing apples to apples). I know I will get flamed for this but no shits given. 😂👌🏾

This is THE best video on the internet PERIOD on the differences between superchargers vs turbo's !!!...especially regarding what you are looking for while actually driving especially on the street. I'm totally pro Roots supercharger for the exact reason given on this video... WAY better for short super torgue body pinning pulls on the street. I'd likely be in jail if I had a turbo charged car cause you definitely end up going faster WAY longer due to the lag of a turbo lol. I also prefer the sound of the Roots blowers over turbo's.

I've had both, the hellion turbo is my choice , the main reason is no drag on the engine , the supercharger belt has to be tight with tremendous strain on the mains and oil pump, subtract 100 horse power from the supercharger right off, with the same engine work and set up my procharged mustang with 12 psi ran 10.95 @ 125 in the quarter, with the hellion turbo and 15 psi it runs 9.55 @145 , the only thing with the turbos it's out of control on the street ,lol👍

Heat is the biggest component that kills a engine. The advantage with a supercharger. Is you produced less heat over turbos . You will get more miles out of the engine with a supercharger than you will with a turbo. Turbos will produce more power but the engine's not going to last.
@expectnolove9978
@expectnolove9978 3 года назад
I guess racer x didn't want to address that issue....I know the turbos are under the car and not in engine bay, perhaps that's the difference....I am sure either application is going to produce a lot of heat due to the forced air....thats probably where the forged internals play a major role....I have a turbo on my harley and it gets pretty hot at times

@kmb96

This is the exact opposite of what happens though, a supercharger produces on average higher IAT’s than a turbo setup, turbos run on exhaust gas and superchargers literally replace the intake manifold and push air into the engine. If you’d like an example of how much heat soak superchargers produce look no further than track reports about the C7Z which before the LT4 got all 10-15 of those coolers present in the cts-v3 and ZL1 constantly had heat issues on hot laps.

I do love your content but the power won't go to 1200 much less than 1500.... the turbos HEAT from being smaller will negate the extra boost making not much extra.... if you want more than 1000 you need more turbo

Are you aware that the turbos on that you put on your car will undoubtedly cause it to break in pretty short order.

Why is that.. its all about the boost level and the tune.. lots of TT coyotes running around out there years and years with no issues whatsoever. The G3 Coyote is a very robust engine which is why I chose this platform
