I became a fan during Mourinho’s first coaching stint back in 2004-2007. Just when they started showing more EPL on US TV. They were unstoppable in those days. You can get DVDs with season reviews and all the goals from those seasons, totally worth it. So after Drogba’s time as striker, Torres did not quite measure up for most fans, but neither have most Chelsea forwards since, alas.

Go Chelsea! Who is your favorite player they didn’t include? I backed the recent 2 player version, seems a bit more streamlined and luck factor reduced a bit, with better production values also. Hope you get to review that in the future.

Bearing in mind that I started watching EPL football in 2008-2009ish, I always liked Fernando Torres (I know he came over from Liverpool!). No idea why, but I always thought he was a fantastic player. Looking back now, I realize now I might have been wearing blue-tinted glasses at the time!

As a fellow football fan (and supporter of a similar team as yours, also with rich and incompetent ownership), it would irritate me that in additional to having a confusing setup page in the rulebook, they even got the thematic part wrong. They put the 6 and 4 in the wrong positions! 😁 Otherwise I'd be curious to know if you tried Eleven which seems similar but with higher production values.

I have tried Eleven - I was, unfortunately, disappointed in that game. I think if there was something between Eleven (a lot of fiddly rules, matchday was overly complicated, no "real" clubs, but more depth of gameplay) and Superclub (very light, too long, no progression - but real clubs, and matchdays that were quick, but still meaningful) it'd be the best of both worlds!

Not a big fan of Eleven. It looks and sounds great, but it’s much to fiddly. Also, it’s more of a solo game than anything else.

The way too long was my problem with it too. If this lasted like an hour it would fine, but it's like 3 hours +, there's just not enough here to justify this game length, as the game gets very repetitive after about 45 minutes.There is also an in-built problem that the gameplay is better at higher player counts because of game mechanics (simulated games are boring), but the game then takes longer the more players you have.

How do those cons still translate to 7/10? They would kill any game for me! Theme alone can't be enough.

I think with the shortened "variant" and the theme (and I can admit I was probably swayed by having Chelsea players more than I should have been) pushed it up just enough for a 7. I still did have some fun playing this one, but recognize not everybody will (which, hopefully, I covered why with my cons to help people decide).
