There are 2 plants called "cocoyam", xanthasoma sagittifolium and colocasia esculenta. Think the former is more popular in Ghana.

I ate Ghana coco yam leaves for the 1st time last year, I steamed them down with butter garlic and black pepper, super delicious 🥰🥰🥰 bought some more last week, and was looking forward to eating them with some rice, fried Plaintains and chickpea and sweet potato curry well……..I undercooked them 😩😩😩 my gosh what an experience, the back and sides of my tongue felt swollen and tasted peppery, I was so confused😂 at first I didn’t know what part of my meal caused this to happen because when I ate the rice and curry I couldn’t taste them either, everything tasted of pepper😂I thought I was going mad😂 I got my partner to taste a little of each part of our meal to see if everything tasted normal, which it did, apart from the leaves, thankfully he only tasted a tiny bit so didn’t suffer and was able to enjoy the rest of the food, I was so vex😂 as I was really looking forward to my food but So glad you explained about preparing and cooking it for longer😁💚 😊 gonna buy some more and give Aunty where I buy it some jokes about my experience 😂💚

Thanks precious one for the tips. I have learnt something new. The availability of the taro leaves in Ghana makes us take certain important things for granted. Going forward, I am going to preserve as much as possible. 👏👏👏💕👌👌🥰🥰😍

It's amazing knowing that cocoyam leaves are edible. I'd like to know if all cocoyam leaves are edible or is there a particular one that can be eaten?

This was a wonderful video! Very informative about cocoyam greens and it’s delicious applications. My mom usually purchases the frozen version when available. And maybe we’ll try getting the fresh one here in Canada. Thank you again for a great video~

Hi. Please I also live in Canada, and I am looking where to buy cocoyam, the root. At Super Store and Walmart, I see a root called « Taro ». Please is it the same as cocoyam? Thank you for your help.

Tarp and cocoyam are the same, I suggest no frills, metro, food basics sometimes have some or even any Asian supermarkets in your vicinity. I can’t ever recall seeing taro in Walmart.
