Superhuman Hearing with iPhone? Meet the Cochlear Nucleus 7! What if you were trapped in a world of silence due to profound hearing loss, and had the opportunity to not only regain your hearing - but hear in ways that the average human can only dream of? This is now a reality, thanks to a partnership between Cochlear and Apple which resulted in the Cochlear Nucleus 7 - the first Made for iPhone Cochlear implant sound processor.
The Cochlear Nucleus 7 is the first Made for iPhone sound processor that users can stream sound to from devices running iOS 10 or later - including the latest iPhone 8 and iPhone X - as well as iPod touch and iPad devices.
I give you a first-look at the new Cochlear Nucleus 7, and show you someone using the Nucleus 7 with their cochlear implant hearing for the first time with iPhone streaming directly to it.

*Hey **#TechSquad** - set aside the iPhone vs Android debate, and take a look at what the power of technology can enable in this day and age. How it can truly change lives in an amazing way. Big shout out to both Cochlear and Apple for making this happen!*

As a parent of two deaf children who just received N7's this product has been amazing. My 18 year old has never been able to have normal conversations on the phone and when she streamed music to her N7, she just broke down into tears. She thought she would never see the day. Her original Sprint processor that she received at the age of 2 was the size of the old school BlackBerry and she had to wear it in a pocket sewn on the back of undershirts. My 8 year old was implanted in August 2017. She has no idea what an incredible collaboration this has been. Thank you for sharing the story. We were wondering about how the collaboration came about.

But did you know if you had an MRI done, a surgery is required to remove the internal device? How many times in a lifetime a person may need an MRI? Cochlear company has not come up with a magnet that is able to be compitible with MRI’s. Without surgery, uncomfortability and health risk for a cochlear holder. The Nucleaus 7 has about 19-24 electrodes that shoots up to only 1 signal per electrodes. The electrodes that is inserted into the cochlea is pretty long. But MedEl came up with 12 electrodes that fires up 2 signal channel into one electrode. Basically like a piano most of the sounds are not even there. MedEl has the same capability with Apple as well but somehow Cochlear and Bionic seemed to be advertised more in U.S. And other countries that has been approved to have it. Also, when cochlear parients goes through Airport to get scanned it eventually effects the quality of the audio processor in speech and sound. But since Public and private healthcare and Doctor’s don’t seemed to mind that because it means purchasing a new processor is money in their pockets. My son had just recently went through an ABI and CI last month. We were going for Nucleaus until we have found MedEl. Did an extensive research and what devices U.S. Carries & other countries.

Paired with my new iPhone7 (at the time it was the only phone capable of pairing with) I'm using making and receiving calls with 85% greater clarity. Amazing! Thank you Cochlear!

I am a new user of this myself, and having the this compatibility has been nothing short of amazing. Especially the streaming feature! I can actually talk on the phone now without getting frustrated which is a HUGE change. A change that I am so incredibly thankful for. I had told my boyfriend at the time that I was afraid his voice was going to change once I got this, but the only change that has happened to his voice is the clarity. It is amazing going from hearing aids and struggling, to getting one CI and things becoming easier. I have yet to use it at work (COVID), but conversations have definitely become easier!

As part of the deal with the VA, I get the opportunity to upgrade (free) once every 5 years, if Cochlear develops a new upgrade. When I was told about the Nucleus 7 and how Apple partnered with em, I ran out and bought (my 1st) iPhone and I love it. Being able to hear on the phone while it streams direct to my brain is a God send! Because Apple took the initiative to jump at the chance to develop the new technology, I will forever be a loyal customer! 5 years after the nucleus 7 upgrade, now does Android market want in on the act. Sorry, android, but riding on someone's coat tails doesn't impress me.

I wonder why they haven't worked with Samsung, as Samsung to me, is much more serious in the accessibility game as they have made it possible to use the phone with many different disabilities for many years now such as mobility and hearing and keep improving on it. For example, on the note 8 and probably on the S8 and s8+ they have this hearing test to modify the sound that comes out of the earphones and balance what portion of your hearing is lessened or lost so that users may be able to hear the sounds they wouldn't hear as well normally. I do use it as i am about 40% deaf mostly in the high frequencies. And this comes stock, no apps no nothing. I hate to see companies always going for Apple even if they haven't shown any interest in that sector beforehand, and then Apple claims it and says it's their innovation, typical Apple.

I agree with you. Currently, to pair with an Amdroid, you should need to use the True Wireless Phone Clip. Apple is way too expensive for their own good and I still don't understand why they couldn't make it compatible with both Android and Apple without needing another device.

The VA took care of my bill using this same model, surgery was a cool $115, 000 (the most expensive part) but implant and processor along with tons of free goodies cost around $30-$35,000. Outside of the VA the surgery will be higher, around $135-140,000. Depends on the hospital and Dr.

What do you mean by control? They are designed to work in the same way normal hearing does in that they adapt to the sound and volume coming from around them. They do have an automatic cut off if the sound is too loud though unlike normal hearing. The implant comes with a small remote but I have never used mine as there has been no need. Likewise although I have the app on my phone the only time I use it is for remote checking of the equipment by the hospital which saves me a journey.

@stephenhodgson3506
@stephenhodgson3506 2 года назад
You are told during the assessment period that an implant is designed principally for speech anything else is a bonus. I was fortunate in that I can hear music clearly but I know others who have limited hearing of music and some that can't hear music at all. When I wore a hearing aid I'd reached the stage where I could only hear bass in music but now I can pick out individual instruments in an orchestra when listening to classical music. From what I was told most people are fitted with only one implant and that is normally on the right side. Now I have since found out that while both ears interpret music the left ear is better than the right.
