It can't be understated just how incredible this game was. It was as much of a leap forward as the original Super Mario Bros. was when it came out. Just about as close to perfect as it's possible to get.
I think super mario world would prob be a better game with more of Mario 3 item mechanics. The feather flying seems kind of too hard to control in my opinion. The raccoon Mario was a lot more agile while flying essentially vertically. ' skipping stages by flying over them' was about the same w feather as raccoon Mario
Alright, now we're talking a real classic fun game to play from the SNES. Something that will help me guide the whole game through and see what other levels I may have missed and I'm sure this video will help me along the way. Thanks for posting and keep up the good work. 👍
I can’t imagine the amount of work these videos take. I know I’ll never go back and play the vast majority of the games featured in these videos, but i love watching them.
I know you hear it a lot (because I see it in the comments every time I watch one of these videos) but you're one of, if not my top favorite channel on RU-vid. Your channel concept is so unique while somehow also being a super "obvious" (in hindsight of course) concept: Take a game, do a walkthrough/playthrough, cut out all the fluff, narrate the entire thing in post with strategies and tips, provide a little history on the game, it just feels like the video version of a really good strategy guide -- I assume, since I never owned any. Even if I'm not paying total attention while I have your videos on the second screen or something, I still find myself glancing to see ways to tackle these games I didn't think of or content I somehow missed. All without a 40-80 video long playlist full of gameplay and distracted banter. That stuff can be fun, too, but this gives me both longform entertainment *and* to-the-point informative content!
Nice video! Impressive work as always. I first encountered this game at a cousin's house in Ireland, and it was what made me want a SNES. For some reason Vanilla Dome 1 sticks in my memory as one of those moments my impressionable young mind just sort of went "Wow...videogames!" And the rest is history.
Yet again, another game I thought I knew every pixel of, and you showed me something in the first level I never even heard of. Also, I never got that bill and Ted reference. Wtf. Amazing stuff. Nice work, man.
Your game guides are the most comprehensive on YT. How do you come up with them? Do you research the game as much as you can then play it over and over again until you perfect it? Or are these just games that you’ve just played in the past and just happen to be a completionist?
Wow! So many secrets I never knew about this game. Here are some things that I remember from my playthroughs of the game when I was a kid: @22:09 It's 8 berries, and they always release a mushroom. @23:07 the purple blocks can be eaten by Yoshi after you pick them up, and they give you one coin. (Super trivial, I know) @31:52, If you go into that section without Yoshi, the pokeys are smaller, only having two or three segments instead of 5, so it's easier to jump over them. In fact if they spawn without Yoshi on the screen they will be shorter. @1:11:22 Yoshi can also eat the powerup inside the roulette block. @1:22:27 I used to spin jump on the flashing shell after it killed all of the other enemies and it would give me a 1up for some reason. @1:47:02 IIRC, the names of these enemies are "Spike Tops". Very similar to Spinies, but with on one spike on top. @2:05:10 Collecting all the coins that the coin cloud makes will eventually cause it drop a 1-up. @2:07:06 Once you make it all the way through this section, if you wait before going to the next section and let the ceiling go all the way down (while not under it of course) the it will make the Thwomp hitting the ground sound. If you have a cape and keep hitting the stone block it will keep making that sound.
Had NO clue about these 😮: Orb! : 18:51 Early Cape (on Yoshi's Island 3): 27:05 Invisible/Invincible Yoshi: 28:18 Quick Exit: 30:55 Unlimited Time: 33:01 Hidden wings (Vanilla dome 1): 1:19:31 Yoshi Clip: 1:21:50 Unending Cloud ☁️: 2:00:41
Wow you know so much stuff that I never seen revealed elsewhere, the cheese bridge secret exit, magazines in the day had players trying to get it by flying through all the saws in the 2nd half of the level with right timing and then going under and up again at end, took such perfect timing, then this video shows me a much easier way just jump off yoshi lol.
"Ghost houses are not marked with a red or yellow dot on the map so you just have to kinda know which ones have multiple exits" (Laughs in Super Mario advance 2 Status screen)
Great video. Have you considered doing one for MK mythologies Sub-Zero its an incredibly hard platformer that pisses people off a la Dashiegames trying to play it 😅
I think intro parts are best parts of your videos. All the rest of a video/s feels like an unnecessary spoiler, which only some will really appreciate.
NGL I think since the ps3 xbox360 Wii Era we've likely reached samey graphics, doesn't help that Sony and MS are basically just consolised PCs, and have Been for the last ten-ish years Edit: and of course Nintendo being Nintendo and not embracing the power of x86-64 and using RISC things
@@mark6302 it's also funny because these x64 xboxes and Playstations basically have tricked out AMD CPU (APU?) Which I think is more or less the same but running on pcie 2.0 lol
@@adventureoflinkmk2 The past ten years for console gaming have been stagnant in the graphics department, IMO. It just feels like developers are just trying to push out games that are 75% playable... I will say though, I really love how the PC community is trying to port old DirectX / OpenGL renderers into raytracing renderers with new Vulkan / DirectX12 API's. I like to believe that is the equivalent of watching graphics change over the years, as new and improved hardware comes out.
@@BSPNode yeah really.. good to know we all share the same sentiments That said it'd be nice to have a Vulcan gta4 mode, it's BS that I don't a full 60fps out of it, and I'm using a core2quad with 10gb of ram and a gt 640 on pcie 2.0 x16 (but wired as x8) Edit: running windows 11
For those that grew up with these old Mario games, they were so special, and the music is now so evocative. Every gamer has their childhood console and games that made their childhood. I once randomly bumped into Miyamoto in Brighton about 7 years ago. I was so star struck, just shook his hand and said “thank you”. I think he knew what I meant.
i still remember coming home from school one day and find an snes with mario world waiting for me, it was the single best day of my life, i still think it is one if not the best game ever made, the amount of magic in this game is outstanding to say the least.
I honestly find Super Mario World a downgrade from Super Mario Brothers 3. There was less diversity in the enemies, lazier enemy designs, less diverse areas, and less innovation in certain game play mechanics in Super Mario World in comparison to Super Mario Brothers 3. However, I did play this game, meaning Super Mario World, straight through for about four to five hours and scored over 4,250,000 points by the time that I had beaten the game.
The blue Yoshi was such a game breaker. He could be obtained very early after reaching the Donut Plains, and will easily get you through almost any level, especially those with Koopa shells, but even those without any Koopa Troopas.
Brother, this is just aggressively comprehensive. I've had this game a little over 30 years, and this is every trick I know, a bunch I didn't, and a few I hadn't even seen in glitch heavy TAS runs. Good show, man. Stay Awesome
There's a trick you can do with Yoshi that I've never heard anyone talk about, I discovered it when I was a kid. When riding Yoshi, walk toward a fruit that Yoshi can eat. When Yoshi makes contact with the fruit he automatically eats it, but if you press the Y button to stick Yoshi's tongue out when he starts to eat the fruit, he'll eat it twice for 2 coins instead of one.
When i was 13 i got a snes for my birthday, and i remember waking up and my mom handing me that present, because she knew i wanted it, and was proud to have gotten it for me. Now i look back, and i appreciate the love she had to make me happy, and i try to do the same for my kids. Thanks for getting back to something i love, and spent countless hours achieving 110% on.
The demo version allowed you to unlock a level in the lake between yellow switch palace and first level. It’s been done before, but there’s nothing on it anywhere on the internet.
@@doublec3I can’t get it to show up on the switch version. I remember how to get there on the snes. I got my sister an OG system and this was the 1st game I got her. We absolutely loved it then and now showed our kids how to play. I’ll definitely try it on her console when I see her. It’s wild how things are missing from the snes. I miss being a kid at my middle age of 42 years 😭😭😭
I was awestruck when I first saw this game. I was in my early teens. I didn't think video games could ever have such great visuals and precise controls. I thought this would be the pinnacle of video games. It's still one of my favorites...
one of my faves ever. I play it regularly. Discovering the secrets in this game was such a treat as a kid. Obe of my fave memories as beating bowser before school. The blue yoshi absolutely breaks this game, lol. Once you get the blue yoshi you can beat the game in like 10 - 20 minutes.
This is THE essential Mario 2d platformer. The over world, the secrets, the bonuses, the level designs, the difficulty balance, the quirkiness, Yoshi lotion, and cheese bridge
I strongly agree about the world map in SMW. The animations, changes as you clear areas, backtracking & exploration all make it feel more like a living, breathing world. It's a shame they didn't continue using the idea in SMW2.
This is sooooo nostalgic! I thought I had completely mastered this game, however, you showed me a a thing or 15 I had no ideal even existed!!! Well done sir! 😊
"While riding Yoshi, you can eat these red berries, and eventually he'll crap out a power up for us." LOL Wow...... memories from this game, irreplaceable. Playing alone or at a friend's house (yes they'd usually have the game too, who didn't)? Great times. Not as great as the NES though, but right up there. THANK YOU.
I'm actually excited about this because even though I've played this game so many times, know it backwards and forwards, 96-star and all, I'm still sure you'll cover some neat tricks/glitches/bonuses that I've never seen before. So far this did not disappoint!
I remember saving up my money I earned as a paper boy to be able to afford a Super Nintendo as a kid. It was so fun playing this game! So much nostalgia and good memories! ❤
I think this game really set the bar high for the rest of the Super Nintendo! I love this game and finding all the secrets was challenging and fun. Thanks again for all your hard work, and Super Metroid when 😏
Me and boy watched the super Mario 3 video over a few days and we loved it … he’s gonna be so excited about this one. So am I lol. Amazing content you have on your channel man. 🙏🏻
This is my favorite game of all time. I’ve played this game more than any other and I played this game when it was new. You’re showing me stuff I never knew and my next play through will be so satisfying! Thank you!
To put something in perspective I started following you at about 10K subs. I said back then World Of Longplays is in trouble, you have completely hit the mark somewhere between them and gaming historian and the world is better off for it. Much love.
Gosh.. I would love to hang out and see your amazing collection of games, play a few... its gotta be awesome having so many neat consoles and older games. It must be like stepping back into 1980-1995 or so... thank you for all you do for us, man.
U Can Beat Video Games guy is way too underrated. I can listen his stuff without being annoyed. Unlike most of RU-vidrs, they just start to irritate being jackass most of the time.
42:55 not always are there just two paths out. For example donut plains 2 has two ways to get to the goal (finish the auto scroller or go back to the key room, but instead use the pipe at the end to reach a normal goal), edit: forgot to mention about the obvious key usage lol Edit again: don't get me started on chocolate plains 2, so many ways to get to the goal with alternative endings lol
A Classic among Classics... 💯🎮👍🏻 Back in the 90's when I was a kid, this game was the most beautiful Mario game to me (now it's the 2D most beautiful one - that came out to light during the 90's -... because we've also got Super Mario 64)
Quite possibly my Favorite Mario game of all time, certainly my favorite SNES game. I was about 10 when this came out and the graphics, the stereo sound, and variety of levels was mind blowing to me, I remember working to get all 96 levels on all 3 save games. If you have never played this one. Do yourself a favor and play it, its a masterpiece.
I absolutely love the opening segments before the gameplay on this channel. As much as i like watching the walkthroughs, I definitely like the way you phrase things when speaking about the history behind the games. I’d watch the content if you ever do anything like that.
Your new puppy has grown up, its nice to see kylo with a friend. It also means ive been here long enough to see them grow and thrive, which we all want for family. Youre a welcome friend to my weekends, and someone who cares about their own nostalgia like i do. Great show brother. Be safe, and i hope to see you next weekend. Wanna play FF6? Its my fav... but i know if you do, we wont see you for 3 to 4 weeks
U Can: There's only four Dragon Coins at Cheese Bridge without the bonus. Also U Can: Gets five Dragon Coins without the bonus without even realizing it.
I have been waiting SO long for this one. As a kid, I impressed friends with how many of the things I could unlock, but there were still so many I could not figure out. Looking forward to this one. Even waited for the second part to be posted so I can see it all rather than wait.
Just want to say thanks for making these videos. When I am having a tough day, sinking into some old school video games while farming up materials on my WoW account just chills me out. Keep up the great work!!
2:08:26 Kooky Von Koopa. When you as Mario stomped on Kooky's head he goes into a shell and start moving around the room alot like the bosses in super mario bros 3 he'll do the cartwheel jump and when he lands you want to hit him again by jumping on his head. If you make it as fire 🔥 Mario in Kooky's castle you can hit Kooky with two fireballs and a single stomped on his head will take him out. Kooky wasn't difficult to beat and defeat. 2:09:34 Kooky von Koopa's days of composing Koopa symphonies in castle #4 are over. The forest od Illusion lies ahead. Mario must use his to solve the puzzle of this perplexing forest.
didn't watch the whole video, but did you do that one trick where you have to collect all the coins with the cape in a certain level, and when you do it, little birds come and chirp around you? I've played this game more than 20x for 100% and just found that trick by myself couple of years ago :)
1:15:05 Hit Big Mouth with two fire balls and stomp on his head. 1:16:19 Big Mouth Koopa of castle #3 is now just a memory. The next area is the underground Vanilla Dome. What traps await Mario in this new world? What will become of Princess Toadstool?
Please start a gaming history channel. I love the beginnings of all your videos. The gameplay is top notch but I absolutely love the history of the game in the beginning and would love to see longer versions from you.
I was just thinking this week "I hope my man comes back soon, I miss my weekly dose of beating videogames" This is one of my favorite games on the SNES. Hell, even ever! I've played and completed this game so many times, but I still wanna watch my man beat it completely Good to have you back, my good fella
1:52:55 Look for the real Hip instead the fake Hip as they pop out of the pipes. 1:53:22 Mario has triumped over Hip Koopa of castle #3. the last of the Koopa twins with his brother Hop. Mario's quest is starting to get much difficult. Have you found the Red and Green switches yet?
