Supernatural 8x23 "SACRIFICE" (SEASON 8 FINALE REACTION) 

Jared and Mark's acting in this episode is flawless and gets me every time

I’ve seen a lot of people say that Sam won’t die because the tablet said you should not fear death, but my first thought is- just because you shouldn’t fear it, doesn’t mean it won’t happen

Possibly my fave fan theory is that Cas’s grace is the ONLY one that would work for the spell. Since the first 2 ingredients are related to ‘love’ between angels/humans (the heart of a nephilim is the product of sexual intimacy and the Cupid’s bow sparks human love via angelic influence), then the final one should too. So basically the grace has to come from an angel who loves humans, and it works whether you want to interpret it as a genuine platonic love for humanity/a few humans or as being in love with 1 particular human (destiel shippers represent lol). Either way, we’ve seen time and time again that the other angels don’t really care about the puny little humans. But Cas does, he’s learned to love humans in all our flawed glory and that’s why Metatron needed his grace and why he didn’t just try to extract Naomi’s before killing her.

One of my favorite finales. I can't wait for season 9 though, there's a lot of mixed opinions about it but I've always really loved it

This is my second favorite episode in the ENTIRE series. An unbelievable ending. The music and visuals at the end when we see the angels falling is unrivaled. Sam’s whole conversation with Dean is top-tier. Dean saying Sam will die and his reply is “so?” So many chills. That monologue from Crowley is my favorite Crowley moment as well. The acting and writing there is fantastic - “I DESERVE TO BE LOVED!” And yet again, Cass making yet again another wrong decision for the “right” reasons… poor Cass. And for your question about “will MOTW derail really good story episodes?” Yes… lol. Probably my least favorite MOTW season coming up, because it reallly derails the story lol. I can’t wait for the recap!

One of the best season finales of Supernatural...the shot of Cas looking at the Angels falling remind me of Starry Nights

Up until this point, Sacrifice is one of my all-time most favorite season finales. The other is Swan Song. But I can’t make up my mind which is the first and which one is the runner-up. I love that in this finale, each of the four main players has his own plot arc, and it all meshes so beautifully. From the slow pace in the beginning to the chilling climax, the humor, and the angst... the feeling of dread and trepidation slowly creeping up... the beautiful cinematography. So stressful on my first watch back in the day. This episode has everything. Even the side characters have moments to shine. This is the first season finale without Bobby, from S1 to S7. Watching this episode in real-time, when they showed the Singer salvage yard and the boys momentarily stopped to look at Bobby's car without saying a word before Crowley appeared, I gasped and could feel a sob coming up .... They actually built that church specifically for this episode while the interior was at their sound stage. Did a damn good job, too. That crucifix on the wall in the church with partial hands and feet looks so horrifying. You really have no idea how hard it was to wait 5 freaking months to watch season 9 after this season finale aired. Like seriously??!! Did Jody even survive?! Found this gem online: Cas: "Would you say that you're looking for a partner in crime, or, uh, someone who's into nurse role play and light domination?" This is one brilliant Destiel vs. Megstiel joke.

We did tell you that season 8 was good lmao....but in all seriousness this is one of my absolute favorite finales because it's truly an incredible episode, with great performances by the actors and a good cliffhanger. I'm really glad you enjoyed the season!

I truly believe that Sam wanted to complete the trials because he genuinely wanted to die, because he felt so depressed and lonely and thought Dean was cutting him out of his life. Throughout this season Sam has been alone whereas Dean has be forging new connections and strengthening old ones. Though they did a terrible job at the start of the season Sam was lonely after Dean was sent away and he had no one for over a year. The thing for Amelia wasn't real, Sam never truly opened up to her and his time with her was more of a distraction, that's why he left when her husband turned up alive, because he realized he didn't truly love her, just what she represented. Meanwhile Dean did have a traumatizing and hard time in Purgatory, but he had Benny and Cas, and after he got back, he was the one making new friends and having a better relationship with everyone else, like Garth, Charlie, Krissy, Henry, Aaron, he even had more of a relationship or at least more screen time with Kevin than him. One of the few reoccurring characters that gets along better with Sam than Dean is Jodi Mills but they are never together this season which makes Sam feel even more isolated. The few characters that Sam does interacted with on his own more than Dean are Meg & Bobby, both of whom die, so you see the pattern? The writers wanted to make Sam feel as alone as possible. Then their was the fridging of Sarah Blake, Sam is reunited with a past love that he shared great chemistry with and she even knows his secret only for her to die and it being partly his fault which just reopens all the Jess trauma all over again making Sam think it' be better if he wasn't alive. Not helping this mindset is the whole purify feelings he gets from the trials making Sam think him dying is what he's supposed to do. And then theirs Dean who Sam thinks doesn't need him anymore, he has proven that he can make new friends on his own and Sam does genuinely believe Dean deserves a normal life. Plus added Sam's insecurities he probably thinks Dean is better off without him. All of this is depressing but its also what Dean has gone through. During seasons 2 & 3 Dean believes Sam would be fine on his own and his own life wasn't worth much. This season shows just how much alike the brothers are and how important their bound is to each other.

So yeah I completely get Cas not trusting Naomi after everything she put him through. Though it does feel rushed how he just trusted Metatron and worked with him without a second thought or talking to the brothers about it.

This episode truly blew my mind

I mean, not closing the gates of hell on paper looks kinda selfish. Having said that, it is not on them to put the world in order if they don't want to die in the process. But it's really naive of Dean and Sam that doing the trials won't end with the participant dead. Dean himself already said in Trial and Error, Dean: ... God's little obstacle course. We've been down roads like this before, man - with Yellow-Eyes, Lucifer, Dick friggin' Roman. We both know where this ends - one of us dies... Or worse. Sam took on these trials because he wanted to live through them, but he somehow forgot all that and has regressed back to the little brother whose big brother is mad at him. And regressing into not caring whether he die or not could be a side effect of the trials, but it feels like a strange turnaround for Sam. I know they’ve planted the seeds throughout the back half of the season, but I don’t see from Sam’s behavior when and where he crosses that point of “I want to live” to “I don’t care if I die”. Only in these lines did he mention the possible outcome of the trial, From Remember the Titans, SAM: You know... I'm starting to think maybe I was being naive. DEAN: What are you talking about? SAM: When I said that I could just will myself into coming out of these trials unscathed. This is where it would’ve been beneficial for the show to give us some Sam POV. They had the perfect opportunity to do this in The Great Escapist just a couple of lines tacked on to the end of his purification speech. Or a line or two showing that Sam was not in the right state of mind to be able to decide whether he seriously wanted to finish the trials. Or also, he would've wanted to continue the trials and then die just to stop the pain. All that aside, I love that Sam Winchester went from being the original boy with the demon blood into the boy whose blood is pure enough to cure demons.

Yessss 8x23 Sacrifice, also known as The Fall I was already loving this season But this episode, they gave us cinema all the way, plus those amazing moments, Sam and Crowley, Crowleys monolgue, Castiels mistake and a great villain reveal in Metatron, Sam and Dean talking and that final part with the Angels Falling Jussssst awesome To me, made forget everything wrong s6 and s7 did, send me back to the greatness of Seasons 1 to 5

Such a good finale. I really enjoyed this season for sure. Sam and Deans acting were great but Crowley took the crown. 👌 The Angels falling looked pretty cool in the sky too!

Since angels need human vessels, it makes not much sense they have human forms in heaven. The one angel who falls to earth where you see his wings clipped makes no sense since he wouldn't have a human form as he descends.

Season 9 and 10 are great! Can't wait to see your reaction.

another one that feels like a full length film Mark Sheppard has said at cons that the church scene was right at the top of his acting experiences because they shot it all at once, in order, which is uncharacteristic of TV shows. I don't think anyone loved the last two seasons but without 6, we wouldn't have had The French Mistake.

It makes me angry that Dean threw all of the things in Sam's face that he had supposedly already forgiven him for, and then he gets mad at Sam when he says what happens when you decide I can't be trusted AGAIN.

ha, we all do dumb things as kids, I think if it's a one time event rather than persistent meanness, no one holds it against you. now the girl who bullied me from fifth grade all the way to the end of ninth, she can die in a fire - she did try to apologize once at the end of ninth grade where I told her I didn't accept - and then also years later at a bar I was attending (she was a waitress there) and I pretended I had no idea who she was.

This was a good episode for me, but there was always something lacking too. It just did not feel complete for me. I also wish we had gotten Sams confession on screen.

I hated how Sam bad mouthed Benny despite the fact that the guy literally died for him! But I do understand it was to show just how codependent Sam was with Dean since there were plenty of evidence in early seasons of Dean being codependent on Sam. It still irritated me though.

I know this episode is loved by many, and I'm not trying to make any objective claims about the quality here; but damn I was so frustrated watching this, when Dean started to talk Sam out of completing the trials. Outright yelling-at-the-screen kind of angry. I felt they justified a lot, like what Kevin went through, by the importance of closing Hell. Previously, I was annoyed they didn't contemplate what that might mean (can souls still go in?), but explained that away with them being SO overwhelmed with the importance of getting demons gone; given their entire story started with a demon fucking up their life. And we spent a whole season on this, ffs, you don't get to chicken out now. I didn't care if Sam had to die for that to happen, it's not like that would be a loss as a viewer, I know they'd just bring him back! Or they'd invent a reason it didn't actually kill him. But that whole scene with Sam and Dean, to me it's not touching at all, it just leaves me wishing to murder the both of them to get them to shut up and commit, damn it 😂❤ I was also annoyed with the completion of the spell to "close" Heaven; why not make that Cas' choice? Just, storytelling-wise, why not have that action be the result of a decision a major character makes, rather than something that is done to them? To me, it feels watered down, maybe to avoid too much "blame" on him? Like, if in season four, after Sam intends to kill Lillith, if demons then forced him to do it so it wasn't reaaally his fault, even though it had been his plan. That would suck, right? That's how I see Metatron taking Cas' grace, rather than Cas giving it willingly, thinking it will save Heaven/keep angels from messing with Earth. There's a lot of great stuff this episode, but man some bits just take the joy out of me. But I will appreciate it for having one of the best jokes: "Brother, it's 10 am on a Tuesday", bless this fucking man for his composure 😂
