I think the Street Trip got a free pass here MCN. I love Triumph, I own a Speed Triple RS and I love it. But if Triumph wants to compete with the Supersports, let them put some effort into it and build a proper Daytona 765! By this logic, next time you do a naked shootout, you'll have to add the HD Panamerica (and other "adventure" bikes). People who buy those tend to use them for the same purpose as us naked bike riders. Again, no hate on the ST or Triumph, just don't give them free passes.

@gabrielzb4129

@splodge5714 The point here is not whether a bike sales well or not. The Street Triple is an excellent bike, and as you can see by my picture, I'm part of the demographic that sees the many benefits of owning a naked bike. The issue here is that this is a Supersports shootout. If this were an open class, middle weight shootout, it would be a different story... then again, the competition would be a little different as there are more players in that field precisely because of the reason you mentioned.

Honestly, I thought you were a bit crazy but decided to give you the benefit of the doubt and went on to test ride the Triumph 765 RS after I test rode the new CBR600RR. Long story short, I'm hoping to buy the Triumph 765 RS later this week. The bike is so easy to ride it's unbelievable ... basically a 600 with wide bars! Thanks Michael and team.

Neevsey, I know you raced back in the 90’s as I did when the World Supersport class was made up of the top 4 Japanese 600 inline 4’s and the 748 from Ducati. Just like their bigger brothers in the WSB. 750 cc Japanese 4 cylinders vs the 916 Ducati. The Italian bikes were arguably harder to ride at their limits but were better at tyre preservation due to the rear getting some relief from decreased power pulses.

The underseat exhaust routing was already a deal breaker for me, but the Duc actually died on the test ride and had to sit for several minutes before it started again. I recon true supersports (in-line 4 600's) will be highly desirable in the not too distant future. Emissions rules will have killed-off the class, and older coined-up riders who rode them back in the day will pine for them again, after getter bored with sterile 200bhp superbikes that can't be spanked on the road. They'll become like 2 strokes are right now. I'm keeping hold of my 2009 zx6r, but not to sell, but to rev the tits off it on a Sunday and put a huge smile on my face.

Can you please elaborate, because that reads like a bit of a contradiction tbh. Tell us more about how they compare in terms of the general handling (confidence/ flickability), fuelling, power delivery (torque), handlebar vibes, gearbox quality, brakes, relative comfort etc etc etc. Like many potential buyers (most?) I'm only interested in road-riding really, so comments about pootling along would actually be more helpful than how the bikes ultimately handle when pushed to their limits on a track. I am never going to be getting a peg to the ground on the road, and yes, I appreciate that some people will be thinking: 'Why buy a sportsbike then?', but that's a moot question/ point really.
@leevanf1070
@leevanf1070 16 дней назад
@@soots-stayingoutofthespotl5495 Just like you, I am a primarily a road-rider, and will narrate the differences through the experience of my daily commute. Before even riding, the Panigale is clearly the most beautiful sportbike. If form is one of your top motivators, there is NO sportbike like it. It of course comes with a price. Getting on the bike, the V2 sits higher. I am 5'7 and tiptoe. The grippier seat makes it harder to also do side to side butt-offs at stops. Nevertheless, I see it as a non-issue with practice. The overall triangle is similar. Now starting the bike and moving below 30kph is where ALL the biggest differences are for me. With a small release of the clutch, the inline 4 immediately gets moving, and the slightest throttle already delivers power. The V2's clutch release later, and you need to be more deliberate with giving it throttle. Once going, the V2 will LUG below 25kph. You need to be in the friction zone all the time at those speeds. The inline 4 can ride 1st full release without throttle easily at slow speed. As you squeeze the tank with your legs, youll also notice that the narrow V2 makes it harder to get a good grip. It seems that the V2 best welcomes a rider who moves their butt far back, to bring the knees higher. This position also better helps avoid the heat issue. No problem at speed, but can take more effort riding around the city. As you get up to speed, the difference greatly narrows for me. Both are easy to ride and are almost equal. They just sound really different but i find that once your are up to speed, the vibrations etc are no issue. City handling at considerable speed is equal for me. At corners, the V2 is more willing to lean probably because of the higher COG and thats about it. Thats as much as I can describe for road riding - and let me tell you, the big difference is really only 25kph and below, and since my commute is literally in south east asian traffic, means a lot to me. For anyone in tBuy it without second though. There is nothing as unique and beautiful as the V2 in its category - moreso if you will be using it for the road.

@@leevanf1070 Thanks for the detail. I'm virtually the same height as you btw, and you're kind-of selling me on the Kwacka really. Yeah, the Ducati is definitely a beauty, but I want to be able to ride in traffic and take it easy if I don't feeling like zipping around. Then there's the price difference. Don't get me wrong, my last brand new bike was a Ducati, but you've just reminded me that none of them have a super-smooth clutch release and pickup (well, I don't know about the V4 bikes). When you mentioned vibes I assume you meant from the twin, as that's not what I'd expect from a Japanese four. That said, I rode a BMW S1000RR about ten years ago and subsequently discounted it as an option because the bar vibes were surprisingly high for a 4-cylinder bike. Then again, that is a racing machine really and they aren't Honda, so I don't suppose they were going to make road manners the biggest priority.

@@soots-stayingoutofthespotl5495 i agree, the 6R, especially the 19-23 and the latest iteration, are buttery smooth. They are no brainers for the smart buyer and if I was just a bit smarter, i would have avoided purchasing the V2. Haha! But reiterating that no matter how good the v2 looks, the 6R is the better city/road bike for me. Easier at slow speeds, and absolutely nothing to worry about in terms of reliability and consistency.

I had a second gen 765RS for almost three years, I've put about 18k kms on it, out of which about 5000 where on track and the rest fun sunday blast plus the odd trip once a year with friends around Europe. I have had ZERO mechanical issues with the bike. The only issue I can think of that did not hinder the functionality of the bike was that once of the reed valve screws came loose at about 21k kms on the odo and made the engine tick at idle. Took the tank off, did the major service where I replaced the air filter, spark plugs and checked the valves. ALL of the were in spec. Sold the bike to a local guy who never takes it out of "Rain mode" and commutes to work with it and has a rear tire comparable to a 5th grade geometry problem. Lots of people are upgrading to 3rd gen 765RS because of the color option and the IMU. If you can find one for a good deal don't hesitate - it's a gem of a machine.

This is the second very suspect review by MCN concerning Honda. A couple of weeks ago, they ran a test saying all kinds of nasty and inaccurate things about the CBR650R - including that it was the slowest bike from 0-60. But... I also subscribe to the printed edition, and that shows the CBR650R as having the fastest 0-60 time of the bikes they were testing. Very strange. Now this test is showing a set of very slow acceleration times for the CBR600RR. I call bullshit on these figures. Motorstatz has GPS verified the CBR600RR as doing 0-60 in 3.28 and 0-100 in 6.25. I know that Honda engines are tight when you're running them in. My CB750 Hornet felt like it had gum in the engine when it had the running in oil in it, before the first service at 500 miles. After this service the engine was much freer and could be fully revved out. My point is this. (a) Why performance test a bike before the 500 mile service and then pass those figures off as though they are Gospel? (b) If the bike was run in and those are genuinely the best figures you could get, then there is something wrong with the road tester (c) If Honda UK have done something to upset you at MCN, just sit down with them and work through it like men. Don't continue to put out clearly negatively biased content about Honda products, otherwise you are just making your road testing look very unprofessional and unreliable.

Also, I have seen a dragy verified video, of gsx 8s, of 0-100 kph of 3.5 and a comparison elsewhere where the zx4rr was absolutely gapped by 8r (which uses basically the same engine as 8s). So I would be cautious about their claimed times. Sort of pics or didn't happen.
