Remastered from the Japanese Quad CD-4 "Singles 1969-73" vinyl LP, this is one of Karen's pinnacle vocals and is set to three performance clips. I hope you enjoy it!
I remember in late summer of 71 racing home on my bike from ball playing to see her on the Carol Burnett show, and she sung this song while playing her big silver sparkle LUDWIG DRUM kit,,I was INSTANTLY IN LOVE 💕
R.I.P, Karen, it's been 35 years, you were my first celeb crush, I was 12, and saw you in concert 2 years after that, a beautiful voice that is truly timeless
You are so right on the "haunting vocal" part, as the depth of the emotion expressed in her vocals can not be fathomed. As a 10 year old boy, this song made me cry. it had such a powerful feel to it that I can not explain. Such melancholy, such longing for that which could never be.
Her voice is pure perfection. The only singer I know, other than Frank Sinatra, that can sing only a few notes of a song and you know just who it is...unmistakable sound. Just Heavenly.
Wow! She was such a great singer, drumer, perfomer!!! And absolutly natural. Her intuition was amazing. She could understand the lirics so well, and express meaning and emotions from the heart.
Easily the best mix of this song *ever*......crystal clear, a beautiful stereo spread, and all *ORIGINAL* instrumentation...none of the later day Richard Carpenter revisions. The drums especially shine here!
It's hard to believe that Karen didn't want to record this song, until she heard Richard's arrangement. She made it her own. Richard stated, even after recording it , in one take, mind you, she still wasn't too keen on it. Considering what the original version was like, the Carpenters made it yet another of their long string of classics .
I've read comments stating her voice is recognizable by most after 2-words into a song, no matter the song. I recall this being the case when "We've Only Just Begun" first aired; only her 2nd hit. That lovely & unforgettable voice attached to my heart strings permanently.
They should be working for Richard. All his attempts at remastering these & even hiring the Philharmonic Orchestra, didn't sound as good. The ONE thing no one could improve was her heavenly VOICE!
Maravilloso the Carpenters, gracias por compartir, hoy solo se escucha música decadente y vulgar, the Carpenters canta de corazón al corazón del ser humano.
This is incredible. Video transitions are seamless and the sound is perfect. I've listed to this song a hundred times and never have the harmonies sounded so crisp and clear.
So sad, the passion and emotions in the songs she sings and yet she never really did find true love. :-( "Just like me....... we long to be close to you" :-(
And to think, Karen originally did not want to record this song. It wasn't until she heard Richard's arrangement that she even entertained the idea. She recorded it in one take. Nothing short of amazing. It became a standard in the Carpenter rotation, although her brother Richard stated she never really liked it.
In spite of her demands, the Studio flat-refused her requests. The was absolutely no part of the song(s) which coulda been improved with a second Take.
Usually vinyl anything has noise, crackle and pop, however none here so well done. As the CD4 records/vinyl was around in circa early seventies it is testament of how you have looked after your records however I suspect you may have cleaned the original source via digital remastering techniques. Very clear sound even after RU-vid has been given the quantization process. Regardless excellent and appreciated.
My favorite of hers, funny story, I was dating a girl named Karen, her Mother bought us tickets to see them at Hartford, (Ct) civic center. Karen's mother sais that since her brothers name was Richard we shoud go
Do you take requests? Would love to see/hear your versions of Manilow's Looks Like We Made It, The Supreme's Come See About Me and Carpenters' I Won't Last A Day Without You.
I'm pretty sure "themotownboy" did not personally remaster the song(s) from the Japanese CD set (as many seem to give him credit for), but he did expertly fuse the vids with the music and lyrics.
CD set?.... what CD set? the track came from a Quad vinyl LP - so nothing has come from cd at all If you take a good listen you can hear the crackles of the record
