Hi Stephan, the ss 3900eu sounds the same as my 2002 SS 3900 when the echo is switched off, plain, nice and clear, the echo does make a difference, great pity that the echo board will not fit on the pcb (main board) other wise I would have bought one for the SS3900+UK40 featured in the next video, thanks again for the reply
Hi Doc, what are these rigs like? I am tempted as it offers retro styling with modern ideas. I know a place to get one which has has the EEPROM board done. Recommend or are there others that are better? What is the difference between the red and blue editions? Thanks in advance, Loz
Hi Loz....The red/blue radio's take about 20mins to warm up, and also the website that advertised the newish 3900EU model has since gone when i last looked, I bought my 3900EU with eprom board form RadioZing, I was assured when speaking to the boss, that the eprom board was fitted tuned and aligned by their professional goto guy Rig Doctor. I spoke to 2 well known radio shops at length about the 3900EU, and at the end of the conversation, we came to the conclusion that the new 3900EU (without the eprom board) was possibly fake news, same box as the last superstar 3900 with the same colour display, me thinks someone bought/had alot of these 3900's and as a sales drive to get rid of them they added the EU on the end, there are no indications on the radio or box that mention EU. The difference between the old and the latest model is the older SS 2002 version will accept the echo board from Knights, the newish SS 3900EU with eprom board fitted from RadioZing can not accept the echo board.. If you phone RadioZing they might be able to fit an echo board it the 3900EU with eprom.. Everyone I know has their own preference of radio, depending where you live, or are you going to use it in the car, I think if the radio you choose eventually with use you will find your way around its controls.. I like the look and reviews of the Stryker 955HPC its got everything.. I also like the Ranger RCI 2970N2 and the SS 9900... if you want to go retro then why not consider a President Jackson 2 Classic.... Knights have a secondhand one no box for £139 (I dont know if its modified you have to ask) Sorry for the long reply Hope the above helps
Hi Doc, thank you for your superb response! Brilliant .... really great. I use RadioZing as its local to me and have to say that the guys there are superb, as is their rig man. Following plenty of intense research I have opted for a President Jackson 2 with all the trimmings done (if you take my meaning) and having seen them in the flesh there seems to be no competition between them and the Superstar. I do have a CRE 8900 (Alinco clone) which is superb.Yea the Stryker does seem awesome ... have heard though that there are issues of them going way off frequency and not re-setting.
