Nice video REM, thanks for sharing!

Hi Rem. I'm in Southern Australia and I have a 8 year old Bacon that is a little wider than yours. I have harvested 45 fruit so far with about 15 more to go. We have had very strong winds and no breaking of branches on my Bacon. I think they are built to handle heavy crops. So I wouldn't sacrifice these yummy fruits but maybe add more reinforcements if you think it will help. I mean you will be harvesting in December, which is 8 weeks away ?

Yeah I should start to enjoy the Bacon soon, last year I started in November and ate them through January. So you guys on the other side of the earth, isn't this your spring? I have a couple hundred fruit on the Bacon, I think it is just too much. It is only a couple of years old. Thanks for watching and keep it going!

@@100lucch good luck this year, should be even better with your trees being a year older. So how many avocado trees do you have?
@100lucch
@100lucch 20 дней назад
@@AvocadoTalk I have 4 grafted ones. Bacon, Hass, Pinkerton which are 8 years old and on a reed rootstock. I have noticed in nurseries that reed and zutano are the main rootstocks used. A 3 year old wurtz, it still needs alot more growing before it can support fruit. I have 3 from seed. 2 are flowering. 1 has made fruit for the 1st time but it was picked way too early due to the branch snapping, so 1 left on the tree and I will pick that in January 2025 and see what it's like. Do you have seed grown trees ?

@@100lucch nice, so if your fruit from seedling tastes good and it's productive, you got a special new variety. You get to name it. I have a couple seedlings I'm working to girdle this year and hopefully I get flowers this coming spring. 🤞🤞 Keep us updated, I'm curious how yours turn out.

Hey REM - a couple of my younger avo trees got burned, even though they were under shade cloth. I have since removed all the dead branches (they just easily snapped off), and am hoping the new growth that I have will allow the trees to rejuvenate. As for staking, I stake all my potted avo trees, as well as my in-ground persimmon trees due to their very heavy production. I have multiple stakes for each persimmon tree. Thanks for another great video! P.S. - my 2 Oro Negros are growing quite well. Very strong growth.

Sometimes when I have to cut and trim them, all I can think of is Scion wood that could be grafted. I do need to re-shape some of my trees also, will do it in January. Good luck with your trees! Thanks for watching!

Funny enough 2 weekends ago i had to redo some straps for my trees as well. I need to thin out some fruit as well. I hate doing it but its better for the trees in the long run.

Painful thinning them but it is better. The fruit that you have on there will grow bigger also it that is a win.

Nice video, Rem. I’d like to see a taste test of the SC Gold as well as the Koala. I think I’m experiencing a few of those “weaker” root stocks that you talk about in this video. You have such a nice variety of avocados. I’m becoming less adverse, or more favorable toward making space for a Bacon variety on my small property. I’ve had one before and it was good eating from December to February. If I wasn’t so hungry, I’m sure I could’ve made them last into March. It just seems like a consistent, productive tree to have for the Winter. I appreciate your videos. I’m always interested in highly detailed irrigation setups with sizes of micro sprayers, tubing, any pcv pipe needed, manufacture names, etc., with a list of all parts referenced in the bottom of the video. I have two irrigation needs primarily: spaghetti type tubing to get to 50-60 type 1-5 gallon pots. And the other to get to in-ground trees of various types, like citrus, avocado. Lastly, a taste test of these more rare varieties is always desired. Thanks. - Neal in Anaheim

@@ocneal hi Neal, I like having bacon to fill that space in the year where avocados aren't readily available. I can't wait to try some of my new varieties like green gold, Nabal, koala, Malama, Kahalu'u. That's a lot of trees you have in pots, there are some critical parts needed for irrigation which I'll share on my next video.

@@omegaxshark21 that's like asking who is your favorite child, also taste is subjective. Nabal is up there, Daily 11 / Queen/ Anaheim is huge.
