I just wanted to say how much I appreciate your channel. I had been learning blender sculpting through Grant Abbitt's Channel, but having someone work through the process specifically for gaming miniatures is great. I wish this video had been available a couple of days ago, I printed a miniature weapon for a project and chitu's default supports were a bit excessive. Thanks for your work.

That's great to hear. I think it's a bit of a balance getting those supports right for you but it's a starting point at least. Have been checking out your channel too some cool stuff on there so far 👏

I have been printing for over a year now and I almost didn't watch this video, but I'm glad I did! lots of useful info that has made realize how inefficient and plain bad I have been at supporting. This has already helped me so much

Great to hear, there is always something new to learn with supporting I find! 🙌

Nice video. Think I'll try your settings. I found for smaller supports, you can... 1. Create a support on another section of the model so that it is a free standing support pillar. 2. Edit and Select the cone-end and drag it to the difficult island. (It may take some creative camera angles.) 3. Select the pillar and drag it inside the model, the pillar and base will disappear and the cone-end will stay. 4. Adjust the bottom sizing of the cone to minimize the contact area to the model. It of course will not be a sphere contact but you can make it small/thin enough to not make a difference.

Great tutorial, would love a tutorial on how you do hard surfaces like that axe weapon on one of the skellies! Great work looking forward to seeing more!

Cheers yeah that's an idea, I do have a general hard surface video if you check on the channel which may be of some use to you for the time being, goes over brush setup and techniques 👍

I think i found a odd cheat for getting better small supports for those really hard Islands. If you select a cone to give it multiple points on the opposite side of the island, and go THROUGH the miniature, it looks like it basically attaches the figure using said tines. I will try to update on this once I try it.

With these settings you have made, after I import are you saying I should just be able to position my model and hit auto-support and be good? Or are these just good settings to use for manual supports?
@MWSculpts
@MWSculpts 7 месяцев назад
You can certainly try using auto supports but in my experience you will still need to spend some time making sure areas that need it are still supported well. Over time I have leaned into auto supports more and more but would always still need to manually assess them to avoid failure as the contact points are very small.

Is island detection part of Chitubox free? I am new to resin printing. Initially, I downloaded both Chitubox and Lychee to try them out as there seem to be equal fans of both programs. Lychee appeared more responsive and responds better to windows shortcuts. However, island detection and some other features are locked behind a paywall. I cannot find anything conclusive on what is locked behind Chitubox's paywall.

Hey Brian, yes it certainly was available in the free version at the time I made this video. It's not the best though.. In lychee the islands appear as dots on the model. With the free version of lychee you can do a basic check for islands. Honestly I have not used chitubox since I got used to lychee free. I will have to do a video about it soon as I have not needed to upgrade to pro just yet to print my models at least.

@@MWSculpts it looks like I need to spend more time in lychee. All the videos I have seen only show using the paid version. Coming from FDM, I'm amazed at how automatic support generation is not reliable for SLA printing.

"Chitubox Support Settings N-FEP" doesnt work with ABS Like Resin on Elegoo Saturn S.

Thanks for the feedback on this 🙂. Do you have any details on what goes wrong with the print?

@@MWSculpts The models do not adhere to the supports and then end up in the resin tank, regardless of whether you use light, medium, or heavy supports. They always tear off from the supports.

Hey Pratik, if you hit the e key while supporting to edit supports, then double click one of the tips you will be able to place more tips from the same support.

I hear you, as a Lychee user too I agree it's much better generally. But as far as free versions go I think chitubox has the edge by being able to edit placed supports.

@@MWSculpts I do main supports/hollowing/holes on Chitubox then export the STL onto Lychee to do the finer mini supports

That's a neat idea, and are you able to do the Lychee part using the free version?
