Rodney Xx it isn't about being cheap , it's about them being greedy. The shops already have to pay a fee to locate their stores within the establishment plus other ways to earn money with the lot for the owners , why should I have to pay to park when I'm already going to spend at the shop thus bringing in revenue on my own part. I could get the item cheaper anywhere else within a day, but I choose to spend it there.

How is this a consumer scam? They fuck up by not parking correctly by not paying or showing, and they complain?

Pay for parking at a mall? I have a simple answer: shop online. Malls loose business and one of two things will happen: They will provide parking for you or there will be some additional space when the mall goes belly up and gets torn down.

This sort of scam has been tried and tested in the UK with the result that town centres are now empty and those out of town shopping centres which charge motorists to park are rapidly following suit. Currently NHS hospitals are the worst offenders, the clamping companies who run them no better than common criminals and murderers.Car drivers in the UK already pay more in taxes than any other group in society yet persecution of them goes on and on. Very soon there will be a bloody revolution!

APNR car parks are fun for first timers if they don't see it (like my dad) puregym are doing members only car parks in places now but APNR company that manages the car park are treating it as a pay and display car park (it's a members only car park you can't pay to park on there) you have to enter puregym get pass the secure revolving doors and log your car in on a touch screen) , they only need to check my membership status to see if I am a member but not they just give the canned response that you did not follow the rules (thing is puregym own the car park not the cam company) stupid company wanted £140 in the end witch puregym said no and cancel it

I been to one of these types of lots where they have a 0 - 15 minute parking for free but I knew I would be at least an hour so I paid $3 for one hour and when I was walking back to my car (after paying to get the 1 hour ticket from the machine in the middle of the lot) someone was writing me a ticket. I told them I just literally got there and paid for an hour and said the sign says the first 15 minutes is supposed to be free. They said I didn't have proof I wasn't there longer than 15 minutes. I show them my dash camera timestamp and they hand me the ticket and say "you can alter that timestamp, it isn't proof, pay this ticket or get sent to debt collectors." I never parked there again. The ticket was thrown out later by the people at the office, but I was out my time and it ticked me off for a good portion of the day.

Unfortunatelly, in some neighbourhood, you just do not have a choice. I am happy to live where there is hardly any park meter, but the next city is full! Some shopping center even have pay parking... Those smaller stores that do not have a parking space is full of parking meter around them... It IS a big issue, but unfortunatelly it is the only 'solution'... There is an huge lack of parking space. The city wasn't built for 2-4 cars per house/appartement. The results: people park in front of those stores, and the client just can not park. The meters have an hard limit of 2 hours, then you need to go feed it again. This prevent people from parking their car in front of the store 'forever'. I'm against that, however... I much prefer to have to pay than having to walk an hour once I found a parking spot faaaaaar away...

Kenneth The answer is fairly simple. I saw a YT video where some urban store (Target, IIRC) has a free parking garage that was nearly full even before the store opened in the morning. Why? Because the store's free parking garage was very close to a subway station. And the subway station had its own parking garage, but it was paid parking. So the commuters were all parking in the store unpaid parking garage and leaving almost no room for the store's own customers. Sorry, but I think that this entire story is overblow. if you watch the video closely, some of the private parking lots aren't even charging you a thing if you're only in the lot for 2 or 3 hours (though some are). I don't blame stores for wanting their parking lots to be for their own customers, rather being used as if they were free parking for the entire public (i.e. non-customers). The fact is that these stores absolutely want your business. And they want to provide parking for you, the customer! Just not for all the people who try to use the store's free parking as a place to pack their cars while they're at work!!!

You get what you allow. If they tried doing that in my suburban California county, the stores there would just die from lack of customers.

We had several tow companies shut down where I live a few years ago. They were literally stealing cars right out of business parking lots like McDonald's and claiming that the business owners had called the cars in as abandoned which they hadn't been. A TV station did a sting where they left the car and sat down in the McDonald's for 10 minutes before the tow truck showed up.
@SpiritBear12
@SpiritBear12 7 лет назад
OK, But what benefit does McDonald's get out of it? That money that the owner of the car goes to the state. McDonald's never sees a dime. Only the state and the towing company makes any money off of towing cars.
@jtkirkfan2002
@jtkirkfan2002 7 лет назад

That's exactly what happen at the city not far away from mine. Did not take long for the malls there to change their tune. There was also a side effect as people started looking for alternatives including online shopping and hidden gems in the city. The malls in that city (there's only 3 of them) did report a loss in shoppers that never returned. Apparently they liked the alternatives far more. So it shows that the people still do have the power, they just have to be willing to excise it.
@markmayfield2228
@markmayfield2228 7 лет назад
In San Antonio, Texas, the city began enforcing a rule that all wording on signage must be clearly readable (no small print). I've seen reports that car owners are winning cases against private park companies for shady practices and that the cities are ruling against them. They aren't legally enforceable. I just try not to park in commercial lots whenever possible.

+Mojoman57 Like in big letters saying FREE PARKING to draw people in then in smaller letters at the bottom of the sign constraining the free parking to late night hours after 10 and before 6 or something. usually at the bottom of the sign or even at times on a separate sign near the one offering free parking. That one is standard where I am as it not only fucks people who don't see the "small print" but they also get a few bonus cars from people who park overnight and can't/don't move their car early enough in the morning. My mam was a single mum when I was growing up and we didn't have a lot of money. We went shopping and paid our parking but then the car wouldn't start and we had no money left for a replacement ticket. We were standing there waiting for someone to bring some tools so we could get it going and these people showed up and clamped the car on us as we were trying to explain it to them. They did not give a fuck. Once it was clamped they stuck the sticker that doesn't come off on the drivers window (which endangers the driver on the way home by reducing visibility by the way). Then they said if we payed 200 cash they would take the clamp off. The second my mam said she didn't have it they called the tow truck. Thankfully I managed to get security from the shopping center that we were parked at to help but the clampers wouldn't back down insisting that it was not the shopping centers business they have a contract (with the shopping center) that "lets" them do this. Two of the security then held the clampers while they took the keys to the clamp and unlocked it. They were legends they even pushed the car out of the car park into the staff parking bay until we got the thing going. The cops were called and everything but we never heard anything about it after. They are scum.

Parking issues like this are all about supply and demand. Whatever the case, it is not your property, you are the guest. You have the liberty to not use the businesses. The simple solution is to obey the laws and don't park improperly when the owner has posted the rules of parking in that location.

He is not being kidnapped or held against his will. He voluntarily stayed in the car, knowing full well that it would be towed. Or, at least, he had been assured that it would be so he had reason to believe that it would happen. It would be interesting to watch it on Judge Judy.

Clamping in private car parks has recently been made illegal in England. Scotland did it a few years ago. All they can do is ticket you but those tickets are not legally fines, just invoices. If you choose not to pay it is likely the company wiil not take you to court because of the cost, but there is a risk they might. One bloke got taken to court, but the judge ruled the charge was extortionate and dismissed the case.

Also I don't give a shit who you are or where you parked, you never tow a vehicle while there is someone in it, that is fucking criminal. Not to mention the towies damaging cars is inexcusable. The store I work in rents specific spots in the parking lot (Its a strip mall, not a full mall) for customers. We tow any cars that stay longer than 5 minutes (A nearby pizza place, ya can pick up your pizza and then leave right away) because our owners really do pay extra for our spots. The owner of the strip mall says we do NOT have to place a sign on every single spot, especially since we put signs on every other spots across the entire front of our store This lowers our business when the signs are ignored because noone wants to park far away from our store since they just come in, get their food and leave

Andrew Schmoyer LMAO it doesn't matter, do you think the public owns the grocery store or the it's parking lot, or do you think a private business owns it? a parking lot for a business is private property, generally. they can set rules for their property as they see fit, same as you and your own property.
@BigDippas
@BigDippas 7 лет назад
Andrew Schmoyer I'm not arguing that it sucks, I'm arguing that it's the law. You pay for parking at theme parks, or car parks, or stadiums, or zoos, or tons of other places. When you go in to private property and they say you have to pay to park or you get towed, booted, or fined it's a legal issue not a moral one and the law takes precedent. Do I enjoy paying thirty bucks for parking in the city or fifteen bucks at the local minor league stadium, no. Do I pay them because I have to, yeah. If ya don't want to pay go somewhere else and park or find another solution to it.

Its a civil matter not a criminal one at least here in the United States, a cop can't legally stop a person from cutting off a boot unless it was placed by a government agency. The private company booter can take it to small claims court for restitution of damaged or destroyed property but they almost need video evidence of the act and must verify that the boot was placed their legally at the time of the incident.

Nick Armock in some states its illegal and some its legal, sadly a few states where its legal they don't have very heavy restrictions on the tow companies or the fines for illegal towing is so low they can make a huge profit even if they have fines to pay.

If you're in a tow zone, have someone stay in the car. If you're in an area where the only thing they do is ticket you, take your plates off, stuff them in the trunk, and stick a piece of paper in the lower corner of your windshield to cover your VIN. Or, you know, just pay up and get out on time because other people want to park and shop there too and it's often quite crowded.

I wouldn't argue the rights or wrongs of charging for parking at shopping malls, where I think it should be applied is when people park in disabled parking bays. In the UK when I have a hospital appointment I have to pay for the period I am parked. To my mind this is both scandalous and immoral.

We haven't, to the best of my knowledge, allowed private entities in the USA to have at one's private vehicle information for the purpose of allowing private security to collect money from car owners for parking in private lots against lot owner wishes. We do, however, have big problems with private lot owners towing cars without proper signage or warnings in parking lots. A small sign at the lot entrance is not enough. There must be a law mandating a sign which is clearly visible and eye catching from every spot in the lot.

I'm in the states. We have a huge problem with this kind of predatory behavior from towing companies. They'll wait with boots for you to go inside a building or home and as soon as you're gone there is a boot on your car. You could be inside for 5 min. They put a big old orange sticker on the drivers window too that is extremely difficult to remove. They don't care what problems they cause. And they will get the money from you one way or another. Even apt managers here with private lots get irritated with the behavior. If someone gets booted in their lot, the car can be there for days. Either because the owner of the car can't pay to get the boot removed or they are just taking their sweet time to get around to it. It's much cheaper then towing for these companies here. It's a huge problem but the city council allows it because they don't have to pay police to give tickets.

***** I may just be misunderstanding how the system works. Is it prepaid? If so, then that would make sense. I'm used to seeing where you get a ticket when you arrive and pay as you leave. Pretty sure this is how it worked in Germany also when I lived there. That was a good 15 years ago though. I also never visited the bigger cities. Regardless, if it is prepaid then that seems to just be a system set up to fine people. People would either need to pay for a lot more time than they need or they risk getting insane fines. That is just a rip off no matter how you look at it. And you know they intend for it to be. It would require multiple people no doubt to manage a prepaid system. For a pay as you leave you just need a gate and one person. Assuming it is prepaid. If not then I don't get why it would matter if you displayed the ticket or not.

You hear something in the news from time to time each year in regards to the budget, etc. And I think we definitely have gotten close to reneging on loan payments. However, if it has actually happened I don't think it has happen that often. THAT SAID, I'm pretty sure Trump has all but stated that he plans to do this... to not pay our full loan payments. I wouldn't get too concerned about that right now though. He isn't in office yet and he has already done a 180 on some of what he promised in other areas. In regards to loan payments I think it is more likely he will continue the payments but try to get some kind of reimbursement in another form... or, maybe just forget he even said anything about it... who knows.
