80$ for a rod is insane.

Never pay full price, find a sale. Is is worth $50? Dunno. What’s a baffle or endcap strike going to cost?

One suggestion would be to wrap one layer of Scotch Magic tape (present wrapping tape) in a few spots along the rod. That tape is .0025 thick so one layer would increase the diameter to match the Surefire rod.

The problem I see with that due to it being such a tight fit, the tape can catch on the crown. IMO, having proper tools and gauges is part and parcel of suppressor and firearms ownership and maintenance. Do things the right way, the first time.

7/32 drill bit 12 inches long. 8 bucks on amazon.
@forcesolutions4154
@forcesolutions4154 5 месяцев назад
You want to use a set of calipers to measure the diameter of that to 0.001” and let us know what that is? At different places along the length of it. And how straight is it? Plenty of people using McMaster rods have had strikes because they are not the correct diameter and not straight enough. But you do you, maybe you’ll never have a problem.
@forcesolutions4154
@forcesolutions4154 5 месяцев назад
7/32nds is theoretically 0.21875”. Doesn’t mean your drill is made to that spec. And use a good set of calibers to measure it. I’m using a Starrett, not something from Harbor Freight.

What size mcmaster rod did you have? .212 or .218?
@forcesolutions4154
@forcesolutions4154 3 года назад
.212. The .218 doesn’t fit. I will make a video about it.

Could you place two pieces of tape the exact same length in two different places.. say one at the far end and another 8-10 inches apart ?

Can you provide more info on what it is you are seeking to accomplish and how?
@John-xo3gk
@John-xo3gk 2 года назад
@@forcesolutions4154 I was thinking that the two pieces of tape could make the cheaper thinner rod thicker to the point that it doesn’t rock in barrel. Idk if it would work but that’s what I was thinking.
@John-xo3gk
@John-xo3gk 2 года назад
Also if both pieces are the same length it would in theory be the same thickness in both spots that the tape is applied. I hope I explained better?
@forcesolutions4154
@forcesolutions4154 2 года назад
@@John-xo3gk Oh, I see, you want to shim it. I would think that it's going to be very difficult to find tape that is only .002 to .0025" thick, because that's what you would need. Then you'd need to apply it evenly. Then it would need to stay put as you inserted the rod into the barrel, which it wouldn't. Also, there are gauges and tools, including specialized tools that you need to use to work on guns, cars, NVGs, computers, watches, etc. Spend the money and do it right. Waiting a year and paying another $200 and buying another $1,000 can because you didn't want to buy a $50 gauge (rod) is false economy. Kinda like using a ft/lb torque wrench to attempt to do in/lb work. It's not going to turn out well. IMO.
