You will be successful if you are flexible, learn as you go, read and get out there when the fish are moving ( a bit of rain, splash, wind etc in other words when it is sloppy, you will catch. Really! Happy Fishing. Check out the Baymen's Association, old articles, seek advice and tips from the experienced fishermen.

Take some first aid, scissors,and sharp cutters in case you hook yourself, or someone. You never know if that lure comes free from that fish.

my main rig for throwing spoons and jigs is the fg knot to the mono (or albright if using wire) then i tie a swivel to the end of the leader. then use a splitring to switch out the different weights without retying . its not as easy as a swivel clip, but i like the tight tumbling action when retrieving/jigging from the jetties better, and reduces line twist. i will add a breakaway clip to the swivel if i start throwing lures, but i usually bring a dedicated plug rod for the jigs & spoons. i use 3oz crocodile spoons down here in tx. nice content man, i wish we could catch striped bass in the salt down here.

i just wanna say one thing i always have instead of the shoulder strap attached to the surf bag is a heavy duty uncle mikes police belt through the loops of the bag. Ive had a couple times with the waters that, that belt saved my ass. You should invest in a good belt

There's a belt attached to the bag. SOOOOO much easier then the shoulder strap. That shoulder strap is just there to keep the belt and bag from slipping down from my tiny waste haha

i know this video is a couple of months old so i don't know if you've switched your leader configuration yet. but IME you're better off using a 3'-4' leader connected to the main line via barrel swivel. when you connect line to line and cast 2-3oz lures the knot will weaken going thru the guides.
@128jhk
@128jhk 3 года назад
Wouldn’t the swivel go through the guides and damage it as well?
@surfandstreamfisher5749
@surfandstreamfisher5749 3 года назад
@@128jhk you don't let the barrel swivel go thru the guides. on a 9'-11' rod it's not an issue to have a 3'-4' drop when casting.

And might want to get some boot foot waders for sand beaches. Boot foot fill up with sand and cause foot pain.
@GetReelBassFishing
@GetReelBassFishing 3 года назад
Yeah, I used the boot foot last year, for the entire fall run. The only problem I had with those was I couldn't get a pair that fit my foot properly. So I could come up with insane pain in my toes, and ankles because there was absolutely no support in them. However, with my stocking foot and Korker boots, its like wearing a regular supportive boot. But yeah...they fill with sand in the surf lol I guess it's just weighing what hurts more hahah Good Luck man, Stay Reel! #smoochandrelease
@richardfuchs5131
@richardfuchs5131 3 года назад
Look up the GT knot. Strongest braid to mono ( leaders) knot. Better than the blood knot. Also try the TA clip or the breakaway brand clip. Strong and won’t open Or stretch out like the clip you’re using
@GetReelBassFishing
@GetReelBassFishing 3 года назад
I'll look into it. And honestly, I've had the TA clips open up on me about 5 times...never had a duo-snap open on me...haha

Sail cloth is your friend! Many custom bag builders out there. Not cheap but it'll last many years and you'll never have an issue. The big dude you fish with will know about them. He's wearing about 2 grand worth of gear in videos. Korkers- I too use the small studs. I'm on the rocks with waves hitting me often. I'm glued to the rocks with confidence. I feel the larger carbide spikes cause difficulty when moving around on the rocks. Sure, if you're on three inches of wet green slimy rock they're ok (I am still confident in the small stud in this situation). But on top of the jetty with DRY rocks, they slide.
@GetReelBassFishing
@GetReelBassFishing 3 года назад
Dang okay man. I'll look into that. And yeah, I like my small studs. I feel like there is enough support gripping into the rocks without me literally feeling like I'm on stilts with just 8 points of contact on a slippery rock haha

@charlenekociuba7396
@charlenekociuba7396 3 года назад
Briefly, the discipline is knowing the fish and when and what makes them bite. First, when it's nice, they don't bite like when it's about to rain, when the waters stir and splash. Next, when they wake up, they swim, move on out of their holes, so the fisherman has to see that they are hungry and need energy to get on out, to be ready just before the Sun rises because that's when they can find their way out and to feed. So what we like as humans is not what fish like most. They know the bait also moves with a change. So be alert, share the spot stories and then be disciplined. That's what will get you success and money in your pocket ( stripers are money fish, not bluefish). Back when if you had boots on, a flexible rod with 30 lb test and determination, you're ready.

Yeah, that sounds fun! Start stocking up now. If you have an amazon account, I've linked everything in this video and more in the description of this video. Get what you can when you can afford it, from now until next Spring, and you should be able to have a very productive Spring Surf Fishing season. Also, local tackle shops should be stocked up with most anything..if not, just ask them when they're next shipment is coming in. But I think if you're going to wait until Spring, Amazon would be your best bet.

With all due respect, because you have invested a lot, you have just packed up too much! Spoons, diamond jigs and all colors tubes, some of the minnow type, that's it as far as artificial gear, we brought out clams and night crawlers mostly. We packed ice first thing to put fish in coolers. We kept tools in a box on the boat and some things like pliers were in the Captain's pocket. So my advice is to read, get to know how fish behavior and you'll catch. You just need less stuff and more knowledge.
