The only problem I had was the battery life. Microsoft advertised it as all day battery but all I get is 3-4 hours only depending on the load. If they can increase the battery life, I would totally buy again.
Exactly bruh, the battery life is nowhere near 10 hour like they advertised. I was disappointed but i like using it as my media consuming and comic reading device.
Hi! Great review. Exactly what I was looking for. I’m thinking of buying this as a personal laptop to work on my own projects in Python, Angular and Java when I’m not working in office. Do you think it will be able to do the job nicely? I want a lightweight portable machine. Thanks in advance
Battery life has always been one of the main reason I never bought Surface ( though I have used different versions) , from an expensive tablet perspective the 4-5 hours of battery is unacceptable. You want your tablet to offer more juice . 🤷
I like the title. As a non millionaire software engineer 😂😂💀 I think the poor battery life is because of the i7. The i5 is fan.less and should draw less power.
@@troylollysaf9311 it leaned more towards 3 depending on what you were doing. If all you're doing is watching movies offline with a dim brightness you could probably stretch it out to 4.5 hrs.
Good to see these one-year later reviews. The SP line is no longer that "wow" product so has to be judged on its ability and value within the sector. I have found that as a tablet it really is a sub-par experience for casual usage and TBH would say do not buy this if buying for a consumer tablet user case. Get a Tab S7 or iPad and have a much superior time. So, therefore, we have to decide whether the relative poor tablet experience is compensated by the laptop functionality? Def not from my experience, though improved when I bought a Brydge keyboard. For those of us that do not find that the convenience of one device is worth the loss of usability then the SP7 is probably not worth a look. The fact this segment has never really grown beyond niche suggests that most people agree that buying saying an iPad Air and MB Air (M1) for a similar price as an SP7 (i7) with a keyboard (at release price) will be more productive and efficient, and most of all have a more enjoyable experience. Those that claim it is too much to carry two devices, well I have been carrying two for 10+ years and it really is not that hard!
I tried to use this thing for game development, I make 3D games. It totally does not work out for that. The device overheats far too easily (using the i7 version with the fan.) I replaced it with an Acer ConceptD 3, and I have no regrets doing that.
Microsoft really likes to copy Apple, even to a detriment, they keep wanting to make the THINNEST LIGHTEST DEVICE EVER!!!!!!!! even if that means it throttles like crazy. I had an 8th generation 4 core i5 that preforms better than the Surface pro 7 i7 simply because it manages thermals better.
@@Coldsteak There is nothing wrong with thin and light, that should be a natural progression with tech! Sadly, Intel in its monopoly has become lazy and slow and they are the ones holding back design innovation. Apple in the end decided to dump Intel and went with their own design and proved thin and light can mean power and low thermals. Everyone hates on Apple as it is a soft target, but the reality is elsewhere, though Windows/Intel fans never want to face up to the truth?
Hello! Thanks for the review. One question, you're using the USB C dock to for HDMI/Ethernet AND to charge the device? That seems pretty cool to cut down on the amount of cables on the desk. How do I know which docks support this?
PLC programmer here. The pro 7 looks like it would be great for me! Id probably use it with an external monitor 90% of the time. Thoughts on whether its worth getting the 7, 7+ or waiting for the 8?
Do it, these are fantastic devices - I know some people take issue with the Bezel size but honestly at the end of the day it doesn't matter unless you're spending your time obsessing over them instead of getting work done 😂 I've had a few Surface Pros in the past, and I have a Surface Pro X now, along with a Surface Book2 and client issue SP4 - Great devices
screen started flickering on my fourth month. disappointing. good thing i got their extended warranty. i'll be contacting them after final exams. other than that it's an insanely tough and beautiful 2 in 1 than endures pretty much anything you throw it. (minecraft while on video call, streaming videos and/or music while working/studying, notetaking, having multiple apps and programs open, etc.) fingerprint type cover, arc mouse, surface earbuds and pen were incredible. i got one blue screen of death in the past five months though. battery is shorter than advertised but as a student who doesn't have space/can't afford a desktop this would be perfect if not for the hiccups like getting hot and fans being loud when you multitask, flickering, other stuff i mentioned. micro sd is great for upgrading storage, ports are nice, proprietary charger is beautiful, i7 with 256gb ssd is nice. go for 512 or more if you can and you're an engineering student/worker and can afford it
It's such a great review. I have one question, Could you make a review about Surface pro 7 with windows 11 and about how to use it with touchscreen like a tablet because MS develops windows 11 to improve better tablet experience for its users. And I'm really curious about it.
I want it but I also don't want it! I want to buy it for the same reasons you initially mentioned,,, at first I only wanted to draw so I was going to get a tablet but now I want to develop 2D games and I found one with the same specs as yours... Should I get it or is it not worth it? I don't want "meh" experience or hiccups after 2 to 5 months. I want efficiency ;~;
