After a week in the boat yard we'd eaten all our fresh food and it was time to go shopping. Now this is often quite the adventure in small town Indonesia as it means going to a local Pasar or fresh market. No-one speaks english and theres a confusing amount of produce, prices and rules at play. We're up for the adventure though and its also the first time to such a market with our 5 month old son Eli. He turned out to be the star of the show and drew so much attention.
Hope you all enjoy this one

My mate went to Thailand back in the late 70s with his wife and their young son who was full on blond haired blue eyes and the Thais went crazy on him, everyone wanted to touch his hair and he got a bit overwhelmed by the attention. It's interesting you caught some flak over dragging an anchor at 4 in the morning in a 60 knot blow that came from nowhere, it makes me think those people have never sailed, or spent any decent amount of time sailing far away from home. That footage of you returning to your boat makes me love that cat even more, it's the perfect size, looks great and has awesome sailing ability, it's such an awesome boat
@SailingLearningByDoing
@SailingLearningByDoing 4 месяца назад
Yeah got a few negative comments but not ones you can take seriously. Mainly just people saying I’m an idiot for anchoring in 17m as that’s just waaay too deep. Probably lake sailors who have no clue that in Indonesia 17m is about as shallow as you can hope for.

That was awesome to share the baby with the locals like that. Fun stuff and enjoyable time for sure. I watch several sailing channels because I can't get enough of the lifestyle. I can't wait till I get out on the water and live the adventure like your experiencing. I'd like to see you kit surf and spear fish.
@SailingLearningByDoing
@SailingLearningByDoing 4 месяца назад
I’ve never tried kite surfing, seems way too complicated with harness and ropes everywhere. I love to spearfish but most parts of Indonesia are so fished out it’s mostly not worth it. I Australia I was going often.

Hello Vernon, Marie and Eli great video glad to see you back on the water. Great you got the repair that were needed done and the little bit more you did. WoW! Eli was so cool/ calm and collective while you walked to and were at the market. Yes my parents said the same thing while we were living 4 years in Sumatra 1961/65 4 kids and how the woman all kept coming around pinching cheeks, legs and admiring our blonde hair. We had child minders(Nanny) while there so really wasn't a tough job for mum. Great to see Eli starting to get vocal and definitely knows what's going on around him. And you spraying the water on him . That was also done to us to help keep cool. Okay I won't go on and on so enjoy yourselves catch you next video

Some people are just arseholes at times, their holier than thou attitude implies they are perfect in every way. I thought you did brilliantly Dex given the severity of the wind and time of night, not to mention questionable chart accuracy. It could have ended up a WHHHHOLE lot worse.

The way I look at it is that some people really have nothing better in their lives than to criticise and bring down others. It’s sad but so are they and I try not to take them seriously
