@@johnmarston6643 well, i see the other comments that you have written. And yes maybe is not bc michaela is black/poc, maybe is just her personality, she may be like childish and lazy, and that survivor is a tv produced reality show. But you cannot say that micro agressions dont exist. Tell me that all the other not poc players pick on michaela. The ones who stood up for her where sandra, cirie , and maybe zeke and sandra.
I always knew there were some hidden microaggressions in this season. If you listen to Cirie's speech to Michaela with an open mind then you understand what she was trying to say to Michaela.
Debbie was a good player though and didn't get upset over being blindsided by Aubrey. She voted against her but she played the game. Debbie was also the one who took out Ozzy. So she has moves on her resume.
@@thatsEforEveryone I love how 40 seasons of Survivor and 22 seasons of Big Brother, people STILL don't understand what Jury Management is... It's almost hilarious
@StyleTechnical oh completely. It's like, how at this point have people still not understood? I'm dumb as hell but I understand it. Like, it's a very simple formula; if you're nice to them, and respect them, they'll probably vote for you. If you're a jerk, they probably won't
I never realized how weirdly they treated Michaela. “She blew up” “shes gonna burn the place down” way too much for someone who is just uncomfortable having their name written down, as any of them would be
@@Adam-lb3eu she is definitely but the exaggeration of everything she does as threatening or over the top when she’s 1- younger THAN ALL OF THESE PEOPLE, 2- not as skilled a player and 3- relatively new to the game makes me believe it has to be racial. They were just toooooo obsessed with her
Michaela: Goes to get food after Brad suggests they get more coconuts Brad and everyone else: Stays at camp eating food while complaining about how Michaela eats so much
@@TahitiSkeez what about her being lazy when she on multiple occasions was the clinching player in challenges preventing their tribe from going to council? Those are out of context as well.
I loved Michaela's finale jury question...proves that they all spent more energy creating reasons to hate her instead of investing time into getting to know her.
Not really the show cut out the woman's crazy bits and put it accross as camp conspiracy it's not actually what happened. That girl freaked out bullied the others and complained and whined and blew up constantly. She is a bully who cried racism to the producers so.She wouldn't be out accross bad. She is a weak person
@@mrjollyguy25 um...Boston Robs game consists of intimidating and corralling the sheep In Winners at War he needlessly pissed off Adam and Ben, which got him voted out And hes still the Golden Boy (sorry JT)
@@MidnightUmbra Yes Boston Rob uses fear and plays like a tyrant. Michaela just inadvertently scares people because they see her as an unpredictable firecracker who will blow up. They’re so different. (Yeah he did piss off Adam and Ben but actually Ben already had a pre-game alliance with Sarah. It was over for Rob the moment he got swapped into that tribe).
Cause they aren’t going to include it in the video. Her mom even scolded at her for acting out in the loved ones challenge. It was definitely part of her personality and made her a great character

Til the day I die, I will NEVER understand how people go on Survivor, and are shocked when they realise how crucial the social aspect is. Like it's not a twist sis, Survivor is LITERALLY a social experiment. Every aspect of the game revolves around it. That entire last scene with Brad and Michaela on the jury is just both insulting and infuriating to the integrity of the game. You realise in order to win you need the jury's votes, and the REASON the jury votes for you is about the relationship you've cultivated with them as individuals. People like Brad who can't comprehend the social aspect are just a waste of space. Sorry for the rant Turtle, not to take away from the true meaning of the video and I'm glad you posted this. You've shed light on something very important king, keep it up ❤️
The jury should not vote who they liked better but who played the better game for instance Russel Hantz should have won twice but the jury was bitter and childish so he hasn’t one So perhaps Hantz wasn’t the best example and I completely understand no one is obligated to vote in any way perhaps a better example would be Boston Rob in All-Stars lost because they got played and Lex was mad that rob “betrayed their friendship” even though he did the same thing to Ethan earlier and people take the game to personally
@@landonweaver1040 You clearly don't understand the game. The jury has absolutely ZERO obligation to vote any way. They have a right to vote however they like. It's the finalists job to decipher what it is they need to do to get that jury's vote. Period. As someone who very recently rewatched Samoa, apart from Russell being a complete scumbag of a human being, his game is full if flaws from day one all the way to day 39.
This reminds of Russell Hantz. Such an ass. Never really understood that the social component of the game is crucial. And he acts like the game's faulty or broken when he gets to the end and doesn't win, and thinks that he's better than the declared winners. Idiot. If you burn all your bridges with literally the entire jury, you're an terrible, ignorant, player. Like Rob said, Russell plays to get to the end, to get everybody else out, but he clearly doesn't play to win. Which would be fine of course, if he didn't then go and act like he's won a thousand times.
@@landonweaver1040 in Survivor there is no such thing as a bitter jury. The jury has every RIGHT to vote how they want. It's their vote. THEY were voted out or blindsided, THEY experienced the game firsthand, THEY hold the power. The biggest strategic mastermind can get to the end, but that doesn't mean he's entitled to the jury's votes. The whole reason the jury system is important is that it gives each of the eliminated contestants the right to have their say in the winner. They're allowed to take their personal feelings into account, hell it's expected. This is why the social game is the most important aspect, because whether you like it or not the jury is ALWAYS gonna take being voted out personally. And they have every damn right to be pissed about losing. It's up to the Final 2/3 to make sure they manage these relationships well enough to still achieve the jury's votes.
@@prestuhnn4493 Half the cast weren’t Game Changers. The real Game Changers were voted out early. The winner of this season wasn’t even a game changer. The outing incident also put this season as one of the worst.
Ironically, Michaela was one of the only non-game-changing game changer that I thought to be acceptable for being cast in Game Changers. Much like the actual game changers that were voted off early, Michaela had plans to change the game of her season that were never fulfilled because of her early boot in Millennials V Gen X - or so the edit showed. 😉
Love how they were all so hyper focused on Michaela that they didn't even notice the blindsides coming their way. In Survivor you can never get caught up with one person. All options need to be open or else you'll get trapped
@@AdrianLopez-qo4vb What is the point? You can act aggressive constantly and its brushed off because you're a POC on TV? Because that seems to be what the video is saying. "Let's just pretend Michaela is a sweet angel who does no wrong and the people out there are only after her because she's black."
@@aaronyayger ok I understand that the thing is michaela wasn’t as rude as to her fellow contestants as they were making her out to be. If you scroll the comments you can find tons of inconsistencies in the major claims that people made against her. It’s just the typical black girl stereotype that the not only the editing but her castmates were pushing against her.
Listening to Michaela talk about this season from her perspective, brad and Sierra had it out from the moment they were on the same tribe. I also feel like there’s such a double standard with how people reacted to her vs how they would react to the same behavior from a white woman. I see a lot of comments saying that not everything in this video is a microaggression, and while that may be true I think looking at michaela’s season as a whole it’s hard not to see that she was treated unfairly by a lot of the cast.
Also can’t forget about Brad Culpeppers past. He constantly has to defend himself by claiming that he’s not racist or misogynistic. How many other people are defending themselves for no reason? It doesn’t happen unless you’ve been accused many times.
Yeah it’s 💯 racist micro aggressions to just straight out vicious treatment & bs gossiping. Plus, she also got everybody’s bullshit cuz she was the young new school player. Zeek didn’t get anyone’s shit cuz he was a white dude. See how that shit works.
Calling her a loose cannon and saying she'll blow up is the exact same energy from BB22 when Christmas said she thought she would be shot for nominating Bayleigh. The saddest part for me is people unwilling to reflect and check their biases or admit they were wrong. Praying the push for at least 50% POC makes a difference on these shows so we can say someone other than boring white men winning.
You realize by using terms like "POC" you are making the problem worse, right? When you DIFFERENTIATE people based on their SKIN, then you feed the idea that they are DIFFERENT because of their SKIN! When you DIFFERENTIATE people, you automatically TREAT THEM DIFFERENTLY, either subconciously or conciously! Morgan Freeman says it best: ru-vid.com/video/%D0%B2%D0%B8%D0%B4%D0%B5%D0%BE-gFP4dJHJXoI.html "How are we gonna get rid of racis--" "Stop talking about it." It's fools like you that exacerbate the problem by defining people on what they look like, not who they are. You morons are just as bad as those on the opposite side you pretend to fight because of how you lump people into groups because of their skin. You see white, black, Asian, indigenous, etc. They're all human beings. Stop acting like they are different because of how they look. 40 seasons have had a little less than 40 winners because of repeats (38, I believe). If you truly believe in equality, stop acting like these fake "races" exist. It's the human race.
@@encycl07pedia- Gonna take a wild guess that you think we should just say "All Lives Matter", right? Ignoring race and "not seeing color" is a privilege not everyone is granted. I think it's great that you don't believe we are inherently different- I don't either. But denying the fact that people of other races have different experiences is a form of gaslighting.
@@stannonbeador Not putting people's value in what they look like is what you're claiming to champion. But you're indoctrinated with this deep-seated fallacy that a person is somehow different because of the color of their skin. Ignoring the fake constructs of "race" is the only real solution to "racism" that doesn't involve some nasty eugenics. Treating "POC" like baby birds that fell out of a tree and are totally incapable or less capable/"privileged" of doing things "normal" or what you would likely call "white" people can do just feeds the bias in the system. The ones that actually need help are the ones living below the poverty line. And that has nothing to do with skin.
It’s amazing how Michaela lasted as long as she did with all of this going on and being vulnerable at every tribal. Similar things like this happen in big brother where the black houseguest is usually on the outs and gets talked about like this or worse and they get voted out pretty quickly.
It is like that can of bean situation where that big, black contestant ate and the others acted as if he murdered someone. I genuinely could not believe how they latched on to that. In other seasons, the bigger muscular guys, b/c of their physique were given EXCUSES for eating bigger portion sizes. God forbid they would give him a pass ONCE especially after he kept apologizing.
@@AsraliaX2Have you not watched Big Brother? It’s on season 25 and it took until season 23 for someone Black to win and that took one of the greatest BB alliances to accomplish. the people in the comments below who are saying that just because someone is rude to someone of another race doesn't mean they're racist clearly don't know the definition of microaggressions, or aversive racism. overt racism is the type of stuff you could easily call racism, but aversive racism is a bit trickier to detect. it's like someone saying, "you're smart...for a black guy," or punishing a POC for a behavior that wouldn't get a white person in trouble. go and educate yourselves on aversive racism before you watch this video and judge there to be no racial microaggressions in this video. literally every clip shown is an example of racial microaggressions.
But that’s the issue, you can literally label anything as microagression. Just because two people don’t get along doesn’t mean implicit bias is involved God this thought process is just perpetuated by smug upper class liberalites, who think the most pressing issue in the world is subtle racism. It’s also the upper class who disfavour classism for other “isms” like racism, sexism. You’re so smug and in your bubble that you’ve never met an actual real issue in your real life and it really is insufferable
@@uhhwhat1514 every comment you make sort of makes it sound like you’re talking about yourself. It sounds like you’ve obviously never experienced any of this because you’ve been in your own bubble and never had to deal with this before. It’s okay if you don’t understand something that doesn’t directly apply to you, but that doesn’t make the experience any less valid. Instead of dismissing problems you don’t understand maybe engage in conversation with people who have dealt with these things before and try to see it from their point of view instead of flat out denying what’s being said (or shown in this case). Good luck!
SJW detected. You just committed a 'microaggression', sweety, implying that only white people are racist. Also, the term "PoC" is anti-white racism. Be better.
i've been rewatching survivor lately and it's crazy how in so many seasons a black contestant (usually a woman) is always referred to as "confrontational" and "aggressive." it's quite horrible, the microaggressions on some tribes are ridiculous.
No matter how annoying you think another player is, this is a social game and if you aren’t still bonding with them, your not playing right. Proven by the last clip. You still want people to vote for you, so if you want someone out who is going to be on the jury, you better have a normal nice conversation with them before they go. I wouldn’t vote for someone who didn’t care to get to know me...like sorry I don’t care how good the rest of your game was, you sucked in my eyes.
And people will never understand that. I'm not voting someone to get 1 million dollars if they treat me horrible. Like if I can't remember good memories with you I'd rather vote for a rock
I'm glad you put this up! I've definitely clocked alot of microagressions over the seasons of survivor... Some of it not even that micro. It happens in alot of group game shows, like BB. It's funny how some people think because they're in a game show that somehow their racist/prejudice biases don't have an impact in how they play the game? Alot of fans also like to overlook these things because it would mean they'd have to address their own biases/problematic actions. Self reflection makes most people uncomfortable no matter how necessary. Anyway as a Black woman I almost always notice the underlying racial tension of some of the players in alot of the seasons... The thing is though... I also notice that some of the players sometimes also become hyper aware of that tension. Some don't care and some choose to ignore it for the sake of their game. I just wish one day one of them who is not the target of it would have the balls to speak on it, whether in the game, jury or at reunion something. This game is a social experiment & I don't think most push the social aspect or play it to its full abilities the way they really can.
Thank you for posting this. I’ve always thought it was very important for people do realize how disgusting Michaela was treated during Game Changers. People said she was going to “blow up” or that “she’s scary” is repulsing. When has Michaela ever blown up or has done anything scary? Never. She was treated like such an outcast the entire season and people pretended like she was crazy, ignorant, or demanding when they were doing the exact same thing, if not, more so or worse. Thank you.
I mean to be fair she 100% blew up when she got voted out in MvGX (altho understandable) but yeah they didn't even know about that and she didn't really do anything explosive in Game Changers. She was just concerned about them using her name as a decoy as anyone would be.
@@noahs5636 Yeah, I see your point, however she didn’t even really “blow up” when she was voted out. She looked at Jay with big eyes, said he’s going to regret doing that move, and then angrily walked off and hit a branch. How Michaela was treated by the ppl especially in game changers was awful. She's one of my favorite survivor ever. And funny how amazing Joey's wife seems to be exactly like him. Yikes
Thank you for posting this and raising awareness of this kinda shit that gets overlooked. Survivor is just a microcosm of reality leaving Black people automatically disadvantaged.
I don’t know whether that’s how Survivor should be described, in that case Cirie should be treated like Michaela but she’s not. Stuff like this happened with Candace, I just think it has to do with lack of social play and assumptions
I've been the girl that 2 people hated, and all of sudden everyone in the group hated me. This was so triggering,.. people whispering, laughing.. Behind your back, not a good time. Glad I'm in a better place.
There is a video where each game changers juror speaks about their thoughts after each tribal, and one of the videos is Aubry talking about the final 4 and their chances of winning. She talks about Brads problem with “women and minorities” on there and particularly how he’s treated them this season which probably will (and did) affect his chances to win.
@@eagerturtle4791 The video clip of that is on my youtube channel if you’d like to use it. The original was taken down along with the rest of the jury’s clips I dunno why.
this is so disappointing to watch and that just shows how important it is for you to make videos like this and bring this conversation to light. I would love to see some videos on 'why brad lost game changers', the mistreatment of POC on past survivor seasons, maybe something about JT's fall from grace lol... just spitballing. or to be more positive you can try to make something about the best POC survivors to not win or something. Anyways, love your videos. keep it up
Won't lie, this was hard to watch...Even what Cirie had to do to acclimatise Michaela ought not be necessary...Yet, this is life for black women in white spaces, unfortunately... Really hard to watch...
Think about what you just wrote. are you saying that nobody is allowed to be mean to or think badly of Michaela, because of her race? It’s survivor, the players are grown ups, they can deal with it.
@@joebaker7029 I do agree woth you slightly some of these scenes are because Mikaela has a very loud personality and says what she thinks which isn't necessarily related to her race, but there is the angry black person stereotype and I can promise you some of these people would not be saying the things they are if she was white or Asian. Although again some are just because she has a very loud personality which can be a little grading on people after multiple days. Microaggressions do not mean a person is racist it means that society has made it so we perceive things from different races differently if that makes sense?
I'm a young black women that's hot headed and used to tell it how it is and now I'm more shy and quiet because I got shut down and attacked by (mostly white) people that thought is was either agressive or needed to be humbled. I recognize myself alot in Michaela and in the clips you showed (especially JT, whose supposed to be a hero but was ruthless af towards Michaela). That type of hostility and microagression (and mob mentality) is totally recurring in "normal life" and it was just sad to see it transposed into the game. I loved and hated the clip where Cirie talked with Michaela because it's like in real life: as black women, we need to shut ourselves down in order to fit in which is sad because other groups of people are allowed to be themselves (especially the bad side of themselves) and they won't get as much backlash.
It's so sad seeing everyone treat Michaela so badly for little reason and for Cirie to be the one gem that shines through it all to actually connect with her.
I remember even how many fans reacted when this season aired. She was called an entitled brat when she was upset about not going in the family reward or expressed frustration. Compare that to Jane from season 21 who flipped out when she didn’t get picked for the family reward. She thought she was entitled to it because it was the last summer before her daughter went to college. When her alliance turned on her because she was too big of a threat to win, she started attacking them personally and even insulted Chase’s mom. Jane won the fan favorite vote that season. I wanted to puke. Also I found it weird that Brad and Sierra were fine with Debbie’s constant instability, but couldn’t stand Micela’s bluntness? Sierra also had to live with Dan and Rodney in her original season. There was also Brad’s treatment of Tai in the last couple days of the game.
First off, I love her. Second off, every subsequent season JT has been on further proves he won on a fluke and just by being nice to people ( even though he was a total ass in game changers ).
Honestly knowing what I know today just validates those clips of Sierra being micro aggressive. She married Joe from survivor who ended up being in some Proud Boy cult. Allegedly he was voted off for saying the N word.
They said Survivor was a reflection of our modern society, the good and the bad, and I think that’s definitely true. The show always has these nice people on who turn out to have some very terrible views. Heard it was either Joe or Aurora who said the n word, but either way, they were close to each other and Aubry. I guess stuff like this is why they were so disliked. The “Joey Amazing” charm really didn’t look like it was working in EoE.
Ugh all of them coming for michaela makes me so mad, like don't come for my girl! Michaela is awesome, and i love that she's blunt and intense (and hilarious). And MvGx clearly proved that she is also smart as hell, just a little unpredictable. But you need players like that on a season, ones with personalities. If the season is just full of gamebots then its honestly boring. Also, the way Michaela relentlessly stuck up for herself, especially at tribal with jt and at ftc, never cowered under that scrutiny, just males me respect her more
and can we talk about her tribal council reactions?? I mean she brought tea to be spilled and popcorn coconuts to watch as all her haters got sent home - she's pretty dope for that in my opinion. not to mention she is a challenge beast! I'd love to see her on an upcoming season
I feel the same! Watching this video made me so mad and sad for her at the same time. I seriously love her & hope when she comes back to the show it'll be with better castmates
People say Sandra doesn’t have game yet she eliminated Tony five minutes into this season and got another winner out even though he had an idol lmao Oh, and she did this despite being the biggest target by far as a two-time winner.
Thank you so much for posting this. I was so disturbed by the way she was treated in this season and couldn't believe that no one came to her defense and that everyone acted like she was going around slapping people or something. SMH
4 years have passed since I watched this and man if I were out there now I easily would've aligned with her. This grown ass cop is saying he's scared of her for defending herself? She's all cute and preppy and gorgeous but he can't handle her defending herself-- and he won TWICE. smdh
Thank you for this video! It just came up on my recommended cuz I’m new to your channel but it is much appreciated, I was just thinking there should be a video like this for misogyny too
This is eye opening, I obviously knew abt microaggressions and knew they were a huge and relevant issue but I had no idea it was THIS common, like I would never have even seen these clips as an example of it, but seeing them all put together…
Woooo this was needed I'm glad we can all see this as blatantly as it was. People were so against her that she was the largest blindspot for everyone, they didnt actually get to know her they didn't respect her doing the same things as other people and they were open for their own blindsides again and again being distracted by what thwy thought of her
It shouldn’t, this is all out of context to make you feel a certain way. Michaela was definitely an abrasive personality, don’t think it was anything to do with skin color
To the people offended by this video, just admit you want to be mean to POCs guilt free. I would respect the honesty much more then you all trying to discredit centuries of oppression
I remember a comment in another video saying "Michaela assaulted JT with her hair(flip)"... Like, y'all would find any reason to paint this lady as angry
brad not winning that season was SOOOOOOOOO satisfying. i hated him in bvw, and i absolutely DESPISED him in game changers. praying he never makes a return to our tv screens EVER again.
1: I can’t stand Aubry. Do people actually like her? 2: Michaelas my favorite all time player, the other contestants didn’t give her a fair chance at all. I’ve never looked at survivor the same ever since game changers
I think the thing is, like Jeff always says, Survivor IS a reflection of society. So if in our society, black people are on the receiving end of micro agressions then that won't magically stop because the perpetrators are on an island. Basically, survivor isn't a utopia where white people suddenly stop being prejudice based on race
Yeah but this video ain’t it. Michaela was just abrasive and unlikable, it’s why you probably couldn’t make a compilation about micro aggressions at Cirie because people like Cirie
I want to bring attention to the fact some of those people are the same ones that will say they arent racist, racism isnt just hating people but also feeding into systemic racism and upholding racial stereotypes. Racial bias is subconscious and everyone has the capacity to push those stereotypes. It's sad because few people realize this, I dont expect people to be perfect but to claim to not be racist should atleast come with an acknowledge of social awareness
@@Peace2Mateo Heroes vs Villains hinted that JT might be strategically incompetent, but Russell’s gameplay covered JT’s incompetence a little. Game Changers erased any doubt plus stripped JT away of all his likability. I think JT is definitely the survivor with the worst 3-season arc, just getting drastically worse each time.
god this was needed... only example i can think of of a season i felt worse than this is how Dreamz was treated... but this was a season of returners 🤢 ty for your work
Sierra's treatment of Michaela is especially uncomfortable now that we know exactly how far right her and her husband are after Joey "A-MAGA-zing" thought it would be wise to quote a Nazi right after you posted this.
