@@Jorjioo how does that relate to the "free" discussion? He says its not free because of ads and you reply: I pay for not seeing ads so its for free! Is this your logic? Amazing.
I used to watch these with my dad years ago, it was the best feeling ever getting to stay up late with him watching this, made young me feel like a man lol
I used to lie on our tiny living room floor and watch these episodes with my dad on our old floor model cabinet style TV. Les was God then before people started coping what he was doing, or tried to...
This show burst the bubble of everyone who thought they’d walk into the woods with a pocket knife and live and eat like a king. Probably saved a lot of lives by making people take the wilderness seriously and showing how slim the pickings can be out there.
l remember as a kid watching in a movie how they made fire with a stick and a piece of wood, then l tried it and was like yeah...fuck this lol Now l can barelly believe early men actually really made fire that way ,mostly the part of trying again and again until they figured out if they rub two pieces of wood like crazy it will ignite and create a spark then you use that spark to lit another kind of wood then you blow on it and THEN you got fire. Bacl then he may have been an absolute genius whoeve he was
With the exception of the fresh water, it appears surviving out here is nearly as bad as the desert. I'd thought there would be a lot more natural grub he could eat.
If we still lived in the wild we'd have thousands of years of built up intergenerational knowledge of the environment. We'd know where all the foods are, the nest shelters, material for tools etc. Modern people trying to survive in the wilderness is not an accurate representation of the past. Admittedly modern life is a lot more comfortable than the hunter/gatherer lifestyle would have been. Whether we're happier now as people though is a different matter.
His ability to get footage and still survive is insane-he had to set up the camera, and then do his normal things. He even got a shot of him going around the lake, did he have to go back around and get it after? Truly amazing.
I like how this guy always simulated an accident to give a legit reason to be stranded and alows himself a random equipment to emphesize that. That + the fact he survives like this, alone and also does the camera-man's job makes this the best survivor show I've seen.
I love to watch this first episode to see his own progress. Where he started compared to the last episodes when he is so much more experienced. I mean the trap scene is fantastic. What I also love is how enthused he is in the first season, which makes sense since he got his program idea published and all. But it's fun how that enthusiasm became more an I-don't-get-payed-enough-for-this-attitude the longer the series went on.
@@Frank2489 he was also getting injured (something with his shoulder) from hauling all that camera gear all the time and was also getting parasites from the food he was eating in the wild his health was declining due to the show itself, sadly
@@thebombasticbadazz4729 He was also in a car accident in Mongolia while heading out to be dropped off. He broke 3 ribs and had a punctured lung. He eventually went back to Mongolia with his son Logan and filmed an episode. Les is more.
I've only just discovered this series. In England, I used to spend my hungover Sunday's as a teenager watching the discovery channel, but we only had the great Ray Mears, and the occasionally entertaining, and frequently "ba!" Bear Grylls. I feel like we missed out not having this program. Also, I fully get a lot of these comments saying how calming Les's presenting style is. These episodes are making going through separating from my wife a little better. I like Les.
Sorry to hear about the separation, but I'm also very very jealous that you have all of these to watch for the first time. You're in for a treat!!! Enjoy
hope you enjoy man tons and tons of hours to watch. im currently reliving my childhood and bingeing this haha. so glad he has the rights to all his videos and episodes its amazing that he posted them here. and im so sorry to hear that man i hope all is well in life.
Discovery Channel wanted Les to do what Bear Grylls did, aka fake it all for better mass appeal. If Les sold out by faking everything, you probably would have seen "Survivorman" in the UK version of discovery Channel.
I remember watching this for the first time back in the 5th grade with my dad. We'd watch reruns on most weekends after he'd come home from travelling and it was something I really looked forward to later in middle school when everyday felt like end of the world haha. Definitely influenced us to go on more family camping trips back then. Approaching 30 now and really great to see these older episodes free on YT! Thank you & all the crew for the hard work and great memories, Les
Huge wave of nostalgia hitting me right now. I used to watch every season over and over. Thank you Les, for being a big part of my nightly routine growing up and now providing these on RU-vid. Absolute legend.
Man that brings me back when I first watched your show when it first aired! Cool to see you then and now. What a difference in both survival and video styles changing. Thanks!
Les is an absolute madman. Incredibly generous of you to release all this content. I’ve watched you since I was a little kid. Still as entertaining as ever. You’re the reason I learned harmonica!
13:08 "I've only ever seen this done..." (starting fire with bow-stick) lmfao. I just watched his survival commentaries on hollywood survival movies. Fantastic! But he talked a lot about how he would do silly, unnecessary things that looked cool, early on in the show. It's really funny to rewatch these episodes--w/at least 7 years since I watched one--after having watched his commentary on his own survival development. He reviewed Jeremiah Johnson, went on about that being his favourite movie, and the first night of the first episode he's building his "Jeremiah Johnson shelter" LOVE IT!!
memories of grade 7, my dad bought the DVD set and i was obsessed! I made shelters in the field behind my house and filmed myself with an old handycam. happy times :)
I find this a very calming show, my mother in law and I used to watch it regularly,, she is gone now..but the memories while re-watching Les, is very calming... Good Show...CHEER!!
I was thinking the same thing. If I was desperate I'd run in front of their car waving my hands. Most people would recognize this is an emergency situation, and at least slow down and roll down their window to see what's matter.
In the director's commentary he said that his ex wife picked him up. I had a feeling he was not going to get in a strange car and leave the camera without saying why or where to go.
I used to spend HOURS watching this show on Discovery channel. I can't believe they're on YT without having to buy or rent. I've been blessed this day.
When I was younger I thought this show was really boring. I loved Man vs Wild but the only reason I ever watched this show is because Les Stroud is Canadian, like me. Now I really appreciate it. Hopefully I won't ever need any of this knowledge. But I think of it every time I go into the stretch of trees behind my house. I'm currently keeping a freshwater snail as a pet. He seems happy. Hopefully I can find it a companion eventually... and hopefully they don't eat each other. I heard they do that... On a side note, I don't even want to imagine the type of intense diarrhea Les has probably had.
@@majesticsunset8184 Oh, I didn't see this until now! The original is long dead, sadly. It took me a couple times to get it right. But now the offspring of the offsprings' offspring are living happily in an aquarium. They get fed fish food and little scraps of veggies. They do occasionally cannibalize each other- but they seem to only go after dead ones. I have bred house snails. I don't think they'd survive being thrown into the dugout now. Some of them got used to being touched as well. I still think their little ears are cute; less cute when you remember that they're actually tentacles though.
Best survival series ever. Period. Les is a man that me and my dad watched all the time when this show was just coming out on discovery channel. These bring back great memories.
I used to love this show as a kid. I would watch it with my dad, and it never failed to bring the two of us together. Stroud is the MacGyver of bushcraft, and it's always a joy to see just how industrious he can be with the resources around him most people would take for granted.
ALWAYS loved watching Les Stroud wherever he was surviving. So many great skills were picked up along the journey watching too... some that I still use to this day.
I have to say, the music in the Survivorman series is so unique and creative. It's no surprise that Les and Peter wrote and performed all of it themselves. It not only fits the scenery perfectly, but it just creates the perfect atmosphere as well. Les is such an amazing talent on many levels. So creative and artistic.
This is number 1 in terms of how bad it can get trying to live as far as his series goes. I believe this episode and the kalahari episode are definitely the most enduring disasters he has put himself through for our sadistic entertainment thank you Les hehe
What I loved about this guy Is he was the first guy to dispell the myth that with a few skills and a bit of kit and having read a few survival books you can go in the wilds and thrive ? he genuinely shows just how bloody hard it is , theres no High end suvival kit just the equipment he can salvage like in a later episode when he canibalise his mountain bike? He fails he some times doesnt get it right but carries on trying till the end - a true survior
It's pure nostalgia for me watching survivorman been watching since 2008. Loved waking up early on Saturday mornings and watching episodes on OLN channel
There's three I trust their expertise: Les Stroud, Dave Canterbury, and Cody Lundin. At least unlike some survival shows that were on Discovery, they didn't actively give tips that could kill you
I've been binging nonstop on Survivorman during lockdown. Staying isolated because of COVID isn't the same as surviving alone in the wilderness, of course, but Les' philosophy and wisdom and his examples of steadiness and inner fortitude apply to to both situations and have meant a lot to me during this hard, lonely time. Survival is a mental skill as well as a physical one. Thank you, Les.
I grew up watching you on TV. The way you went out into these dangerous and beautiful lands with respect and knowledge captivated me as a child and even still to this day.
I remember getting the Survivor man book as a Christmas gift. What an awesome read and resource, so happy to see your making new content. Just rewatched the off the grid doc again...love it
in season 3 when he is in Alaska he says he has never in his life set his shelter on fire from his own fire. Here we see that isn’t true. Also, it’s really cool watching this from the beginning again and seeing how far he has come. Love what you do Les, thanks for sharing with us!
I remember watching this episode and winter plane crash back in 2005. Ive been hooked since, have all the DVDs. Thats where I go when I need to go to my happy place. Thank you Les Stroud. Youre a legend
Seriously, not only the best survival show I've enjoyed growing up - but having every episode and season for free up on RU-vid? Absolutely the best hands down. Thank you
Les Stroud is such a legend. Instead of doing dangerous things or being dramatic all for the camera like some guys (cough, cough Bear Grylls in Man Vs. Wild) he shows the realistic side of survival. Not taking unnecessary risks, no camera crew to help him out off camera, just him with the bare minimum of supplies and his camera gear surviving!
Les you have no idea how much your videos and personality have helped me. Ive been homeless for quite a while trying to figure out the next move. I watch your videos every night.
Dear Les, thank you for making Survivorman. I enjoy watching it ever since my childhood. I'm in my mid twenties and now every time that I want to look out to life I watch Survivorman. It's like therapy... just like how people love watching Bob Ross, I love watching Survivorman😁♥️
I was recommended this and boy am I glad I watched it! This is the first real survival programme I have ever seen. Unbelievably good! No frills, all the mistakes left in and a comprehensive covering of mindset and moral. Excellent!
Never seen anyone carve a figure four trigger like a spindle. Seems like a waste of effort, edge, and time. Love your show. Thank you. Great to see these again
Long time fan from when I was in elementary almost 15 years ago. Great content happy to see all the episodes on youtube definitely will be watching all of them in order starting with this one. Cheers from canada Les!
This Episode really helped when the Government of Alberta forced me into homelessness for being too disabled to receive AISH. Stranded outside, biting cold, exposure, starvation and even predators. That is how the government lets you know who is in charge, Les Stroud and the skills he taught me are why I survived. Thank you very much Mr Stroud.
@@thecommonsenseconservative5576 The Crown Not See staff really hate me because I NEVER respect them... by which they mean I need to shut up and let them commit crimes against me. But actually The Crown and its Not See staff have no moral authority. No spiritual authority. No Lawful authority. I don't respect nor understand them. I couldn't care any less what they think about anything. The crown culture, is that of Anglo Saxon Prostitutes. I want nothing they have, I continue to hope they all burst into flames and go back where they belong! And cheer when ever Karma exacts its revenge on any agents of the crown. If Hister had some really good advice for you, would you want to hear it? No, obviously not. AND NEITHER DO I!
The best survival show ever done! Les, you are truly a pioneer. So much admiration and of course so much respect to you! Wish you would come back for more seasons.
Les, yours is absolutly my #1 favorite TV series of all time. Its also, in my opinion, the first AND last truly authentic show in the so called "survival" genre. Many, many thanks for making your creation freely available to us on YT. You're the MAN. Rock on!
Les Stroud has been a hero of mine for decades now. I am so glad I can rewatch all of these anytime on his channel. Thanks Les for all the instruction. You're an inspiration.
I grew up right on the edge of he Canadian Shield. The whole environment in this episode reminds me of my past. I didn’t know about those tubers! The expression on his face was hilarious 😂
Thank you, Les. Like everyone else, I used to watch Survivorman growing up and having these on RU-vid now is just great. You continue to be a personal hero of mine. Thanks for everything!
I used to watch these after school with my mom back in 05-08, kindergarten or so. I think it was really important for me to see this kind of thing as a kid, the skills Les demonstrates and even the psychology of taking stock and not panicking has saved my bacon a couple of times. thanks!
Les is such a great guy I will never forget when I first met him in my home town. So down to earth, a real pleasure. Hope to see you again when you find yourself back in Huntsville ontario Les! :3
I loved when Survivorman was on tv! I keep re watching these episodes! My only problem is I watch like 4 in a day and get through each season so fast lol WE NEED MORE LES! Thanks for the great content!!!
I used to love this show and it randomly popped up on my recommended videos. I absolutely love that you've put every episode on RU-vid for free. That is a baller move. Thank you.
As July 2021 begins I finally discover this channel. Thank you Les for putting these videos up on YT for free. I watched this show all the way to Season 4 (as I recall) before getting rid of my Cable TV as a cost saving measure. It's nice to re-watch and bring back a time when life was happier. Thanks again and I hope you and your family are doing well.
Definitely the most interesting survivorman. Way more realistic than all those others. Les is not afraid to show when things fail, while others pretend to be perfection and make seem things so easy
Got the first 3 seasons of Survivorman on DVD. Great Christmas presents. Me and my family loved watching them. However, my favorite time to watch them was when I was alone. I could really put myself in your shoes. Thanks for all the footage!
Les, thanks for uploading these! I used to watch this show with my dad when I was a kid, and this brings back some great memories. Whenever we'd go out in the woods for the day, my dad liked to give my brother and I "Survivorman quizzes" and ask us what we'd do first if we got stuck there with only what we brought in. I'm no wizard of surviving in the bush, but those lessons were still very useful!
I feel so young watching this again. I remember watching this on cable TV as a kid. This was HD back in the day, absolutely amazing quality. Although it was better than what RU-vid shows.
You are a huge inspiration to me. Up there with some legendary heroes like Steve Irwin. I have always been a backpacker starting in my early teens. You are the only person that understands the fear factor and gives solid advice. Thank you so much for uploading these for free! I'd love to see you hunting down bigfoot more, the return to Radium Springs episode gave me the chills!!!!!
