Survivorman | Romania Part 1 | Les Stroud 

I saw a comment a few years ago that said: “Bear Grylls checks under his bed for Les Stroud before going to sleep every night.”

One thing I really respect about Les, is that he is humble and fully admits he’s not perfect. I’ve seen him make many mistakes throughout the series, and instead of cutting them from the show...he talks about them. What he could have done different, or better, or not at all. Most if not all other shows just cut out the mistake...Not Les! It’s things like that that make me really respect him, not just as a survivalist, but as a man.🇨🇦

Man I just realized how little has changed for me. I was a kid I would sit and watch Survivorman and here I am years later still sitting watching survivorman!

Thank you for mentioning just because you find a survival cabin, doesn’t mean people will find you in it. Many are abandoned and can take a VERY long time for people to show up, so seeing it as a helpful stop rather than ultimate salvation is something I feel is very important, I think many people would feel immediate relief coming across a cabin when lost, but it’s good to keep in mind ❤ Thank you for teaching me so much about the wild, Les. I’m 30 now but I’ve watched you since I was a teenager, thank you for your dedication to realism and education ❤ Also thank you for always showing us your mistakes, showing us that even you, the guy we all see as THE MASTER, can make mistakes and feel frustrated, it makes it so much more real

I love how honest Les is in all his videos. Very unlike other survival tv people who only show their best takes, have a back up crew, no mistakes or small fumbles ever included etc... it makes Les Stroud all the more impressive to me.

I really admire Les Stroud. Survival teacher, entrepreneur, musician. He has carved out a great life for himself all while being a down to earth, honest person.

I was born and raised in Romania. Nice to see such a video. The Romanian mountains are indeed beautiful. I have been several times to the Bucegi mountains near Sinaia. Really beautiful. To drop a pun here, I just want to add , that Romanians are real survivals because they have endured dictatorship for so long. That is a different kind of survival but it is also tough. I started seeing this video clip pop up on tiktok that says he filmed a bigfoot at 35:36. Something sitting at the tree to side of him. Interesting!

I got lost in Bulgaria's mountains, so this episode is bringing back some strong feelings!

As a romanian, I hiked a lot of our mountains. Unfortunatley, most of them are full of logging roads. Basically, if you keep it to their extent, you can get to a village at some point an people are very helpfull with tourists. It might be a long road, but 90% of the times, they will fallow a small river, nothing complicated. Compared to Alaska or British Colombia, this is a joke. Just thinking of grizzly bears or possibly big foot, makes me scared as hell... Love this show anyway, plus the man is a legend. Can't help thinking of his videos when I'm hiking.

Hey Les at 35 minutes 37 seconds after you almost fall off the cliff you capture one of the best bigfoot sightings. Also after you head back to the road you startled something big. In the video you assume it was a bear but thinking now I bet bigfoot was trailing you throughout this hike. Good job unintentionally capturing bigfoot on camera! It looked like the bigfoot was watching you trying to decide if you were worth eating or not. Or it was just watching to see what you were up too.

Man that’s the number 1 reason I love this show.. Les is always honest.. he didn’t need to tell us a man came past offering him a lift out, but he did.. he always tells us the truth, no matter if it’s entertaining or not, it’s just what happened

This really proves that it really doesn't matter how experienced you are in the bush you can still make a mistake that can cost you your life.

This part of the world has always peaked my interest. I once saw a documentary about the Balkans and it was like something out of a fantasy book, like Middle Earth and I was mesmerized by its wild beauty. Thank you Les for all the years you’ve taken us along to experience and learn.

I spent a bit of time in the Carpathian mountains some twenty five years ago and I still think of it as the most beautiful place I have ever been.

I've watched all episodes twice over, haven't seen this one. Pumped!

Been a fan of Les and the show since I first learned of him many years ago. The final line in this video is something similar to what I've always told people. The wilderness is neither for nor against you, it just demands your respect. Perfectly said and absolutely true.

It must be so frustrating for someone like Les to see shitty fake drama survival people like Bear get so much of the attention. When he was breaking down the camera stuff you really get a feel for how much more work he's putting himself through by filming all alone. I really respect him, he's a great role-model. Seeing him struggle all the way down the mountainside for hours only to realize he had to turn around and go back, that really inspires me. I imagined myself at that same position and I honestly think I would've given up. But Les' pure dedication and optimism really hit me. Thanks for putting these all on youtube.

7,000 views in 2 hours ! The original bush craft expert. Les does his own video recording, unlike Bear G. & and Cody L. It’s not about dangerous and crazy stunts or eating gross food. There is very little shock value. Just good camera work, inspired by beautiful nature land scapes. Les started it all and still continues to release new work on you tube. Over a decade of picturesque and inspiring nature, all recorded for their own beauty sake. I want to quit my job and go to the mountains, and survive. Oh well. Perhaps when I retire😂Thank you Les,for sooo many years I’ve been an avid fan ! Keep up the great work!

Les, I dont know if you will ever see this, but you could add a desiccant pouch or some rice to the SD card bags and this would provide additional protection from humidity and moisture.

Les is a true gem

Personally, I've only just discovered Les and this series and I have to say, this is my favourite survival series I've ever seen. Les is so down to Earth and honest, being willing to show his mistakes and how easy it is, even with experience, to make a mistake that could kill you in this situation. I wish there were more of this series being produced, but having a (I think complete catalogue) uploaded to view for free here on RU-vid is the next best thing. If you ever see this Les, you're awesome mate! You've got a new fan down here in New Zealand.

I have been watching Survivorman since childhood and can say this has always been my #1 Survivor show of all time. Simply amazing and please continue to make more new exciting episodes!

I'm 57 and longtime fan. it's nice knowing there's new youngsters learning about Les. He's the godfather of us adventurers both real and imagined.

I’m sad that Les is getting older. I always wish he did a show about the interior of Alaska. I moved to Alaska three years ago, and I feel like my life just began.

Thank you les. I've been trying to watch this episode for a pretty long time. I don't have the ability to subscribe to paid memberships on platforms to watch it. And I only saw it on TV once. I had already been watching you for years but this became my favorite episode the first and only time I watched it. Those huge rolling mountains stuck out to me as something truly dangerous and truly beautiful. I've been to places like that as an "extreme camper". Meaning i be spent most of my life going out with my dad and eventually on my.own for weeks at a time in the woods. There's nothing like having that feeling that you are so far away from civilization that there's a hood chance that your location and point of view haven't been repeated by another human, possibly ever. I've been watching Les since I could remember, time and time again, I get into rewatching episodes I probably have watched more than 5 times. @Les, ever think about going back to the footage you didn't share and make longer episodes? I'll forever be watching these episodes regardless, some old/new footage would be a delight. Anyway, just an idea. Can't have enough of this stuff. 12:50 minute mark.. Caddis fly larvea.. We called them "periwinkles", not a snail.. Grubs that make a portable cocoon with silk and sticks, pebbles , debris specific to that location. I wonder if boiled how edible they are? We would pull the grub out and use it for fish bait.( Trout, near Mt. Hood Oregon)

Watched Stroud for years . His shows are really impressive and opens up the world to us and to show us that there is a world outside your bedroom and walk to corner Seven Eleven. 👌

I think this is a really good episode. The reality is most of us will never be in a situation in the Amazon or the Cook Islands but many of us have been in situations in the wilds of 'civilised' parts of the world, our cars and planes make the world a small place... in cars amd planes.. on your feet, exhausted, wet, hypothermia, hungry, lost you can die half a mile from rescue. Take your average overweight western 50 year old and drop them in the Scottish mountains, even... not even thinking of the Rockies or Carpathians here, in January and see how many survive for a week. Every year people die of exposure in the Scottish hills, within a few miles of a house or rescue. Most of them near trails or logging roads... I once got lost in thr logging roads above the village I grew up in in the Highlands. I went mountain biking for a few hours and didn't take the right clothing or any emergency supplies and didn't let anyone know where I was going. I was 17 it was 1988 long before mobile phones. It was April, usually wet but fairly benign, the weather closed jn and within an hour I was jn a blizzard. I was in that incongruity situation of knowing safety was 2 miles away, knowing there were forestry vehicles out there and crews in the area, seeing cut logs, bulldozed trails and thinking 'this cannot be happening to me, I know better than this.'. I realised that I had to dig deep and it was my youth, fitness and I remember sheer bloody will power in realising I was jn serious trouble, which I only really knew due to a lot of outward bound training, that got me home. I recall getting back to our house almost hypothermic, ran a hot bath and was jn there recovering when my father returned from work and bollocked me for not doing the washing up... I remember thinking how incongruous life is. I couldn't describe what had happened, how scared I had been and how close I came to being a casualty .. even if I had he, an old Highlander, would have roasted me and rightly so. At the time I had just returned from a Royal Navy mountain survival course, I was fit, young, had a lot of mountain experience a lot of survival knowledge for a teenager but a thoughtless trip into the hills nearly killed me... I never ever did anything so.stupid again. I'm.51 now would I survive that situation again at my age? Well, maybe my body fat would get me through, you're not going to die of thirst jn Scotland jn.April! But I don't think I would have made it had this happened to me now, not that I would get myself into the situation. The stark reality js most people.are killed because of I'll I formed or irresponsible decisions, near civilisation, very few are eaten by tigers and bears. Our own sense of immortality I'd out worst enemy which us probably why a 17 year old got himself into that situation in 1988, on a Scottish mountain

This is one of the two-parter episodes I was really looking forward to. :-) I'm not from Romania, but the Carpathians in my country are very similar to the Romanian parts of the range, including the really tall and mostly uninhabited areas similar to the Făgăraș range (the Transylvanian Alps). Many of the shots in these episodes might as well have been from places I've hiked at in earlier years, albeit in different parts of the Carpathians. Thank you for filming a whole two-parter episode in the Carpathians, Les, and stressing that even though they're European mountains, you can still get lost in the wilderness, or pick a bad trail, or overestimate your skills and underestimate the terrain, weather and overall situation. As you've put it, it's key to respect your limits and respect the natural environment around you, it's very easy to get cocky, overconfident and downplay potential threats and mishaps. I'll second the warning that one shouldn't blindly trust every old logging road he comes across in the forest, I have plenty of personal experience with seeing how deceiving these paths and roads can be, especially if they're disused. Mountains are some of the environments hikers and tourists get lost in more than any other type of environment, so I always appreciate episodes where you try to portray an ordinary lost hiker. I really enjoyed your even older episodes about being lost in the Rockies, but seeing you surviving in the wilderness of the Carpathians, something I'm even more familiar with, fills me with joy. :-)

Les making this survival situation a unique hobby. When i was little, i used to play camping with my family and friends, not real camping but fake one. You know, using chair, blanket and bed sheet to make a tent inside our living room. Then we would take snacks, drink/water, even rice to make it "realistic". Then we set up random objects to find inside our home. Just like mini quest/treasure hunting.

I can't watch enough of these videos. I love the outdoors and love to learn how to make it out there. I'm getting old. After 10 children, I'm ready to go live my dream.

I thought for sure I'd seen every episode of Survivorman. This one reminds me a bit of his 10 day Norway episode where he lost his cool as well. It's not often you see the survival experts get frazzled like this. I'm a psychology nerd and this kind of stuff fascinates me.

When you share your adventures, I am storing up your memories as my own in hopes that your answers will one day save me too. Thank you very much.
