Les' 4x4 runs out of gas, leaving him to survive extreme heat in the Kalahari Desert. Created by Les Stroud Starring Les Stroud For more updates, follow my Facebook page! / thereallesstroud
LtCdr Xander Plus the added weight.... man..... his devotion to giving us these shots is truly something to admire. I would been all “man, fuck it!” after the first half day
I was shocked to find your youtube channel. I practically grew up watching your programs with my dad! So upon my discovery, I shared with him the details. "Hey, did you know Les Stroud retained the rights to his shows and published them ALL for FREE for everyone on youtube??" He just responded with a smile and said, "Sounds like something he would do" I love your spirit, man. You're an icon.
@@optimisticnihilist3417 THIS IS THE ONLY CORRECT ANSWER. THE ONLY NON FREE ASPECT IS PAYING FOR INTERNET ACSESS. HOWEVER, IT IS SWAGGY THAT WE CANWATCH THESE WITHOUT A STREAMING SUBSCRIPTON. just ealized this was caps, too drunk to go back and fix
Can it have more advertisements too! I feel 15 ads for 40 minutes is too few. I only want 10 seconds in between advertisements, this show gets in the way of that.
The ultimate moral of this episode ironically enough is that there is simply no "surviving" in the desert. Once you run out of water, unless you have a safety camp to hike to a couple hours away, you're toast.
@@samueljlarson I think people who make comments like that would probably not think to bring water and gas. They would just take off and we'd find their dry bones.
@@zernos3566 dude i grew up in the desert, we brought water everywhere. you’re usually gunna have a gallon or so especially in rural areas. You go through it way faster in the desert.
I’m from Namibia and although the Kalahari may seem harsh, its easily one of the most beautiful areas in Africa and definitely one of the best places to hunt!🔥
@@tylermickan1895 people usually hunt for springbuck there, although certain areas will have larger antelope species like kudu, eland and oryx. There are a few types of wildebeest there as well. but they're not that common
Oh yea? One time I walked all the way to the grocery store...and back! No but seriously i wish i had half the mental fortitude and physical abilities that Lee presents
I am from the this desert. Les did the RIGHT thing bringing water for this episode. You simply cannot survive without it close by. The heat…. The waves of pure lava heat…. Les speaks the truth.
This has always been one of my fav survivorman episodes due to the second night. I experienced heat exhaustion once before, it is extremely scary situation. Just waves of heat pouring off your body but you don't feel any cooler. You almost feel hotter. After I experienced that and rewatched this episode a week later, I gained so much more respect for Les. I was in a city, I couldn't imagine the feelings he went through in the desert.
The worst part of heat stroke to me is the growing delirium and utter confusion. It becomes impossible to think, and if feels like dying in the sense that you can literally feel the life leave you, ultimately becoming a crushing feeling of helplessness. This was at home during a heatwave, and it was my cats that saved my life by licking/wetting my forehead and such. Gave me the strength to semi-fall down the stairs to the cellar, where I could recover in 14C down from 39C upstairs. I had memory issues for a month after.
It's not even about being better or more real. My main problem with Man vs Wild, is the fact that if you follow stuff he does on that show, it will get you injured, sick or killed. You don't go running around like crazy, climbing up and down cliffs, swinging from wines, jumping into unknown water and the lists just goes on and on. Nor do you go around eating or drinking things you have no clue about.. Being in a survival situation is bad enough, being in a survival situation with like a broken arm or a leg or sick, that can be a death sentences.
I got traumatized by man vs wild when in the middle of the desert bear Grylls scooped up a volleyball sized wet hunk of camel feces, put it over his head and squeezed out all the liquid into his mouth and all over his face in the scorching sun. Drinking the liquid. I can't imagine the feeling when it dried all over his face and neck
@@RMJ1984 Thats why I lost all respect for Bear Grylls. He was "apparently" in the SAS and if so, he definitely understands real survival skills. So it's even worse that he would agree to be in a show that could potentially put peoples lives at risk if they tried to imitate his actions in a real survival situation. The guy sold his integrity for a pay check. Scumbag move
Jesus, I've missed this show for so many years grow with my dad watching it I'll definitely be having these on repeat the next few days glad to see it back
@@ChristopherTradeshow Omg I would do the same thing! My parents owned a woods and had campers out there and stuff, and this show would always make me think "I can do that it looks easy" so I'd go out and build some stupid stick structure that would just fall the fuck down 😂
*Les dying of dehydration in literal 60° C weather* “Hydration is just so important, man I wish I had water right now” *me* “Man this ice cold lemonade is really good, sorry what did you say Les?”
awe Ruby he doesnt have a cameracrew with him besides the very beginning of some episodes, he’s alone these 7 days, no camera crew, all of the shots are taken by him
It's absolutely incredible the amount of ingenuity Les has, that is 100% required to be able to survive in these environments... I always used to think when I was a kid, "7 days?? That's so easy! That's not long at all!" But as I've gotten older, I've realized just how miserable these 7 days must actually be. Not having food for a day or two when I'm in a COMFORTABLE environment would be hard enough, but not what Les goes through.
I went without food for I think around 8 days or so one time, just to see how long I could go on just water before it became an issue. It ended one evening when I realized I was absentmindedly snacking on some peanut butter. Guess that was the end of that. Of course, I didn't have to do all the energy intensive work of surviving in a hostile environment. But the hunger wasn't even so bad. It peaked on like day 2, and then I think actually got easier.
I think the most insane part of Surviorman in general was the fact that every shot you see of Les walking away from the camera into the distance you gotta remember he has to walk back to get that camera, same with the shots you see of Les walking from the distance towards the camera it's the same thing he had to walk the first already to set the camera down, insane, makes you respect him even more especially since that fake guy "Grizzly Traeger" we'll call him was aired around the same time. Les will always be the G.O.A.T
Les Stroud is my new hero! This was amasing to see. Not only did he do the surviving.. Putting up cameras to show how he put up cameras. It gave me a laugh, but nice to see the honesty. That little water will not make you survive, and this video made it clear. This man is chill. No need for ACTION, POWER, SUPER BLOW-UPS! He tells you how it is. I would be overwhelmed if 4/5 traps worked. Like Woohoo!!! Freaking sweeet!! Les Stroud if you read this: You are the best!
Les Stroud is the most legenday survialist/filmmaker in existence. His show is authentic, realistic and educational. Many thanks to this incredible man.
Man, I grew up on this show and I'm happy to see your episodes pop up on youtube. One of the very few pages I ring the bell for, but I certainly did and I intend to watch so much! Les, you single-handledly created my respect for the love of nature. I would love to gain enough experience and knowledge about an area where I felt comfortable enough to head out on my own or with friends and enjoy the experience of our ancestors. This is a random place for this message but I hope it reaches you, I feel like you made a huge difference in my life. I'm 24 now but I remember watching your show as early as 14 and I have loved every single part of it. You've done a great job in television and just humanitarianism, it's a legendary title that I imagine will go down in history. I hope I get to meet you one day, attend a class or just see you out in the wilderness, I'll always carry a marker so you can sign my hat lol Love you Les, thank you for making a living teaching us common folk about the beauty and dangers of the environment, I am forever grateful!!
The tinder fire with the can also perfectly demonstrates another reason why we should NEVER leave trash behind outdoors, how easily that could have been dropped and started a fire unintentionally.
But it could save someones life if they need to start a fire 😉 Im being facetious. But really, is there anything that nature produces that you consider 'garbage', or is it only human products? Now ask yourself why you have such a low opinion of human creations as opposed to the rest of nature. Animals LOVE our 'garbage' generally...they make homes out of it and use it for warmth and gifts. That doesnt mean they dont try to eat it too...there would be more food if we didnt infringe upon their habitats and also kill life with pesticides and hunting. But my main point was that 'garbage' is subjective and generally doesnt exist in nature. Kinda the same thing with 'pollution' as well except much of that is deadly to all life so...less of an argument for defending that lol.
thanks for doing this video,i i am a namibian , living close to the kalahari desert, and not far from the namib desert. We love this and we apreciate what you did. THANK YOU VERY MUCH
For those wondering, yes 140F or 60C would be a world record. However, like he said, he was taking temperature in the sun and I assume near the ground. When taking temperatures you are supposed to take it in the shade 6ft off the ground in a box that blocks wind off
i love this show he shows the real meaning of survival, he aint pretending to thrive in these locations, he is a normal dude just like you put in extreme locations alone. when i think expert survivalist i think of him and this show cuz its the only realistic reality show
I've read a lot of the comments and l have to say. Les took way less gear and supplies the anyone that lives in that area would of traveled with. He does this a lot. I don't drive anywhere without a kit in my car. Food, water, tools, blanket, fire and more. More in the winter. If it's a trip to the wild l have a rifle/shotgun. Les is hard-core no doubt about it.
Glad he used gas and oil mixture. For anyone who doesn’t know, oil is harder to light than fuel, but the combination, makes a lasting, easier to light oil/fuel. Fuel by itself on that bundle would most likely evaporate, if not in some sort of air tight container.
I do mining construction in the desert 40c to 45c every summer. One day I drunk 11L or nearly 3 gallons. In a 10.5hour shift. The sun is no joke. Especially without shade. The biggest fear for me is not having a way of finding/making water if you do get lost. Deserts are the most dangerous survival challenges for that reason.
if only we can have another season man. I'm still watching this over and over again while laying on the couch. so entertaining and I hope I can experience traveling soon
It’s funny how our whole perspective of weather changes lol. In the desert if the sun is shining that’s a terrible thing. Thunder, rain, grey clouds? What a beautiful day!
Les is the reason I always have a survival kit in my car. 3 days of food, cooking supplies, water reserves, shovel, tent, clothes, first aid kit, .22 rifle, etc.
How cool I mine at the Kalahari Desert , the Himbas have master the skills of survival in this desert for thousands of years . Now you’re thriving through here
I survived in a blistering hot vehicle for over 3 years disabled and homeless, battling daily heatstroke, injury, starvation and danger. Your shared experiences likely contributed to my continued existence
He has to walk these areas twice to film the episode. It's insane how much Les did for this show and how hard he worked to make content that is watchable.
Thank you Les for making these episodes free to watch. You were always my favorite choice for survival videos. I have a question, though I’m not sure if you’ve ever been asked or answered it before, but if you were on the history channels “Alone” tv show, what 10 items would you bring with you and why?
Axe (obvious) Multitool (obvious) Climbing Rope (obvious) 3-Person popup hunting blind (to use as shelter & for hunting concealment) 10x10 tarp (water catch & for transporting stuff) TWO 5 gallon buckets (water & etc) Wool blanket (if in cold environment) Flintstrike Fire Starter (to not waste energy and time bow drilling or etc for fire). That'd be my choices for "Alone". Not really anything you CAN'T do, having all that. :) What's yours?
@asadauy Ompah okay, well im not sure what youre looking up but even after checking i can find articles online. But if its really that important to you to troll something you cant find for yourself then thats fine, you win. Have a lovely day! Even if i were wrong...does it really affect anything to point that out? What do you gain from arguing about it? By the way, these questions are entirely rhetorical and it really doesnt matter to me what your answer is.
@asadauy Ompah what reason would i have to lie about something like that? 🤣 theres no benefit for anyone to create that type of idea. Im not gonna do your leg work, if youre really that concerned or bothered by it then go find it yourself. Notice how youre obviously all kinds of butt hurt now that youve been called out. Because really, truly and honestly i dont really care what youre opinion is...to me youre nothing more than words on a page. If it really means that much then again, sure, you win. Ill concede. As well, ask yourself....even if i were wrong, is it truly worth the effort on your part to throw a temper tantrum like a small child? I highly doubt it, but obviously you seem to think its worth proving me wrong. So yeah, if you cant find anything then think im wrong to yourself because its apparent that no one other than you seems to care. You need to take a long hard look in the mirror and change that crappy attitude of yours.
I watched ALL the episodes originally....JUST EXCELLENT!!! Les Stroud was out in front of all the subsequent bushman, survival guys. I'm so glad he's on RU-vid.
Les thank you for what you do. These shows and you bring back great memories of childhood and I'm happy to be able to rewatch them for even more reasons than that. You are so wonderful !
Mad respect for Les as a survivalist, but I feel like he waited way too long to search for water. I think he was too comfortable with the water he brought with him. In the first few days all he does is setup a water catch in case it rains... in the desert. To be fair it looked like it might've, but he definitely should've made it his main priority IMO.
@@sumitshresth Honestly I'd like to see a version of this show where they have a local guide or just a local in general show them how they survive and what their life is like... other than "pasty canadian man almost dies in desert" lol
@@Mageofpie Definitely. I grew up in the desert and we're taught how to survive when we're kids. A water is one of your highest priorities and so is shelter. You can NOT survive in the desert without water.
@@rock2946 Yeah absolutely. I feel like he dropped the ball on this episode, most people don't (But should) take a huge thing of water with them on a drive, so he really didn't do them any justice by basically not even searching for water until after they'd be dead.
It’s funny how when you actually get a water source you look around at all the junk you’ve fashioned to catch a couple drops and you just want to smash them because they seem so meaningless now. The same can be said for food.
Kind of like peanuts on an airplane. We happily take and eat the little bags the flight attendants give us, but once outside of the airplane most of us wouldn't be caught dead eating those same little bags.
I'm greatly impressed by the decision to carry water with you. Les Stroud you are a great teacher and so many people will be better off in the event of a real emergency of survival. I've yet to find a contradiction in your method of survival, and I've been watching you for years.. Thank you.
@@Rascarrr you misunderstand. he meant that he is greatly impressed that he dropped the games and admitted that there is simply no way he could have survived without water. plus, no one really goes into the desert without water, especially no one who has watched survivorman lol. i love Les because it takes a smart man to know how to survive in the wild. but it takes an even smarter man to know when he cannot.
So happy to be watching survivor man like the good ol days, thanks you tube and thank you Les!!!! Your the reason Ive been practicing emergency and primitive survival tactics!
