I'd watch this. And his aim is to go and score some smack so he doesn't get sick, get a couple of 40s of OE, and drag a dirty mattress into an abandoned building before his crack high wears off
He did have an urban survival series I think in 2009. Not quite what you described though haha. I think it was geared more towards natural disasters in an urban setting
I love the idea that there's two big beasts creeping up on him about to eat him, and he almostly jokingly plays the harmonica for the camera, which saves his life lol.
@@andrewdias478 yes! Best part of every episode is when he eats something. It may seem gross on paper but watching a hungry man find something to eat is always enjoyable
He’s a small plane pilot, can fly hot air balloons, can survive anywhere, makes flame thrower defence systems, Les is like the Canadian version of MacGyver!🤨🇨🇦
Can fly anything, and makes flamethrower and fire regularly... are we sure Les isn't Elon Musk? I mean, I've never seen them in the same room... just sayin...
Same here. I used to replay season 2 over and over during a rough patch in my life. It always relaxed me. He was alone, I was alone, and there was nothing in your face about it.
If you truly believe he's alone, you're on drugs. MANY episodes you will notice the camera wobbles because they forgot to edit the cameraman carrying the camera out.
@@altf4gaming637 dude, you might actually be on drugs. The man is/was 100% alone. You can verify this through any method of searching the internet. Why wouldn't you just give him props? You have no evidence to suggest he really wasn't alone, and you can only really say the camera wobbles? What the hell argument is that? A camera, wobbling on uneven ground with wind? Aha! Must be the camera man! Sneaky bastard, I better go expose him
@AltF4 Gaming the only time he wasn't truly alone was in India and that's just because there was a man eating tiger in the area and the local authorities wouldn't let him be out there without armed guard but they weren't allowed to help except security for his perimeter.
Best survival series ever. It was legitimately educational which is what made it so entertaining. Unlike other survival shows which are for pure entertainment & not educational at all (Naked & Afraid for example)
I grew up when both Survivorman and Man vs Wild were releasing new episodes on TV. The difference between the two couldn't have been more diffent. Instead of unneeded drama and reality like TV, Les showed what real survival was. Bear Grylls would show the average joe how to repel down a cliff with jungle vines and then dive bomb into a waterhole with your 20 team production crew.
One of the best TV series ever, hands down. Up there with The Sopranos, The Wire, Breaking Bad, etc This, Cowboy Bebop and The Sopranos are probably my favorite TV shows ever tbh
@@richcxx hey, at least it narrows it down! Haha What a shame....I have to binge watch _more_ survivorman... what a burden! ;) haha it's already midnight rn and going thru this video after the plane crash and survival at sea one lol A mate showed me him today and I am attempting to catch up on everything! I've been missing out!
@@NearlyH3adlessNick I believe it is the Alaska episode if you’re still interested two weeks later. The shelter was made of dry wood that he said he let the flames get too high and it caught.
Imagine being a wildebeest, minding your own business at night, and then hearing that harmonica, and as you're running away, you hear the airhorn. Haha must've scared the piss out of those animals.
The only thing "fake" about man vs wild were that some of the situations were setup so that way he could demonstrate how to survive something that hadn't naturally happened to him or a situation that is deadly he will demonstrate while facing the least chance at death
You know he's the real deal, because he almost dies of starvation every episode. Survival is a bitch, and it doesn't have a metal soundtrack and MTV cuts, like Gryllsy's programme does.
That first sound Les heard sounded like a lion. I'm thinking the lion sensed a challenger was breaching his territory and he was sending a warning saying "Get out!" When the lion saw the flame thrower, it was thinking. "Ah hell with that, I ain't get burned to death by that fire breathing beast over there." In this show we can rightfully claim that Les was King of the Jungle.
I’ve never seen those in any med pack, ever. Not even military. Too dangerous. Some of the stuff he shows isn’t realistic, but more for entertainment and the purpose of showing it can be done. Like when he found a brand new Brillo pad in the artic and connected to a new 12v battery to make fire.
@@DrEvil-os9dc That Brillo pad wasn’t brand new though. If you watch the extras on dvd he shows where and how he found it. It was actually pretty dirty too. The battery and steel wool is fairly common way to make fire; now the one that surprised me the most was his chocolate and coke can fire starter🔥
The level of danger from wild animals depends on how difficult life is for the animal. If it has been a bad season without food the animals will take the risk of getting hurt to eat. Les Stroud put himself in places i never want to go.
This was always my favorite episode! Was always stoked to see this as a rerun as a child. Im an adult now. So happy and nostalgic to see these. A simpler time, indeed.
Yep I agree 👍 Les is the real deal I started Watching Survivorman from the very beginning with his Pilot episode back in the Spring of 2000 on the Science Channel They actually renewed a new season just a couple years back ,but Les never did another season, I'm guessing he's burned out it has to be hard on his body all those different locations from hot/humid to cold to down right freezing from 105 degrees then the next week's Location it's - 15 degrees Lol
This show always made me wanna be outdoors as a kid and now as an adult I can say that this show is part of the reason I love being outside in the wilderness
Les. You've been a grand inspiration during my entire upbringing. Not because you put yourself in danger , but the lessons you teach and the mindsets you profess. Thank you. (Also Cattail stalks in the summer and spring taste like cucumber)
Back in the day when everybody was ‘Bear Grylls’…..I was always ‘Les Stroud’! Both awesome in their own right, but Les was truly alone. Thanks for the knowledge and the memories Les!😎
This episode really makes me appreciate the thought of carrying a gun basically at all times in nature. Partially for defense, but mainly for easy hunting.
@@illlllllllilillliilllliiii7155 You don't necessarily need to hunt big game with a gun. Shooting a rabbit is perfectly acceptable, and a million times easier than chasing or trapping it. And one decent sized rabbit is a solid meal in a survival situation.
@Jonas Smith most people carry 10mm for bears not all handguns are small caliber weapons or you could carry a small 44 magnum or even a 460 magnum or 500 people handgun hunt bears all the time with big bore handguns but the glock 20 chambered in 10mm is still small enough to carry all day and enough to take out big game
@Jonas Smith, what are you talking about? Hollow point ammunition is extremely common for handguns. Even the police use them because the bullet will stop in the target rather than traveling through and potentially hitting anything behind.
Thank you for archiving this amazing show on the internet for everyone to watch and learn for many years to come. Hopfully this reaches a new generation of viewers and gets them outside abit more ! :) i definitely enjoyed watching these as a kid and i still enjoy them now as an adult. Your a legend.
It's awesome that Les just casually knows how to fly a hot air balloon and a plane. Even landed the plane on a random rough old air strip. The man has balls of steel.
Growing up i had no friends and no hobbies and watched alot of tv and played alot of video games to pass the time and i remember having the first 2-3 seasons of survivorman on dvr and i remember when the show first aired getting hooked and watching it with my parents and actually trying some stuff bc i lived in the country. Survivorman will always have a place in my heart for the nostalgia of keeoing me occupied in my awkward teen years
This has to be the most expensive episode to date. Hot air balloons are INCREDIBLY expensive. To just cut one up like that gave me shivers. I enjoyed this one! Thanks Les!
After a father and his young daughter both were last seen with their hot air balloon on fire and could be heard screaming on their way down to the ground, died, near my town I said I was good on those things forever.
The plastic bottle is a great way to get rid of any intruders. You don’t want into your body, but it definitely doesn’t take away the fact that you’re putting plastic particles into your water by melting the plastic. Either way it goes. It still helps you from surviving situation and it’s great advice to give out. 🔥🔥🔥
Each time I watch any episode of Survivorman, I’m amazed how easy to do it looks, and how hard in fact it was in all respects. Les made it look easy, though. No drama, no tricks.
I love when Les is like "Oh I better be careful getting close to this, there might be deadly snakes or scorpions or other things inside I might disturb" and then puts his camera as close as he can to it
Les, alone in South Africa in the middle of the night, surrounded by "big creatures", with an harmonica as only weapon. If this isn't BRAVERY, then it's borderline suicidal 😂
I love les . To me theres no one better and im sure hes learned this since this episode. But the part where he wets the bandana and places it to his neck, he is right to cool the arteries. But by blotting them. There are nerve endings in the back of your neck that send signals to your brain telling it you need to warm up or cool down. In this instance the cloth in the neck makes the brain tell the body to sacrifice other organ functions to warm the core and vitals if left on or done to often for too long.
Thank you Les! A Year ago I was in South Africa for a week. Magnificent beasts they have down there. Not really my cup of tea to survive among those things, amazing how you did it.
You're awesome Les! Thanks for uploading these, I really enjoy the whole Survivorman series! It's one of my all time favourite shows and I haven't watched it in years.
thanks les stroud for your sacrifices you have made. and im glad your ok health wise and nothing bad happend. u put your life on the line to teach humanity and i respect you for that man. we need more people like you in this world. we rly do
I think the sheer realism and the great personality of Les Stroud is what makes this show more appealing to me than something like Man V Wild. Thanks for all these videos, and props to you for posting your series on RU-vid for everyone to see for free! Keep up the great stuff!
After I saw the video of Man V wild walking on some very stable lava right next to a highway here in Hawaii and playing pretend their in the middle of nowhere I really don’t like man v wild
Love shows like this. Once went camping and didn't bring any lighter fluid or a starter log and all I had was matches. Was able to make a fire with all the tips and tricks I learned from this show and impressed my entire camping group 😁
@@Tysnack that’s fricken awesome. I wish all creators had the luxury to own the rights to their own work. Sadly few do, especially in TV. And Les is awesome for uploading these without a paywall. I’ve seen all these when they aired but getting to rewatch them now is great
@@Tysnack And instead of selling them for $5 a pop on Google Play he's making them available for free on RU-vid. For some people, no amount of money is ever enough. I've always gotten a sense of humility from Les. He *NEVER* takes his safety for granted when he's in the outdoors, for example.
Just stumbled across these and have been binge watching for days. I didn't catch them when I was younger, they would have premiered when I was in my early 20's. Here I am at age 38 and loving every minute of these! Glad to see so many other folks nostalgic over these episodes as well!!
yeah he basically just fasts for 7 days while exercising pretty heavily the whole time. quite impressive how much suffering he's able to subject himself to in order to produce these episodes.
I was thinking when he made the spear and the throwing stick, "C'mon Les, have you ever successfully killed anything bigger than a turtle on any of these shows?"
Still the best survival show in my opinion. I've been a big fan for many years and that goes from when I was school through present day. Thank you for uploading these!
I live at the bottom of S.A and we went camping in a nature reserve and one night I heard crunching next to my tent to I put my head out to see and it was a Buffalo that was grazing between the tents, they have terrible eye sight at night but we still all had to sit still and not make a noise until it finished, I tell u it's never a dull day in S.A and those black mumbas along with some other snakes are extremely dangerous
I’m blessed to have selected Les as one of my core role models growing up. It has had such a powerful impact on who I am. Even the way in which he speaks, reveals the depth about what it is he is truly fascinated by (“nature”).
Man these are so awesome. I keep reading comments about having a go pro but I actually like the old cameras, bc les makes it idk charming In ways. Watched 1 episode and I forgot how much I loved this show now I'm on like the 10th episode hahahaha
Thank you for uploading these season Mr.Stroud! I’ve been watching since season one and love rewatching all of these, keep on watching them over and over to hopefully remember some of this advice should I ever need it.
