The beauty, the grace, the articulation, the tone, the control, the dexterity, the range, and the RASP of her voice. Such a prime example of musical perfection. I can't say it better; Susanna is tremendously gorgeous, and her voice is her looks' only competition. Top notch performance.
I've said it before and I'll say it again, I love Susanna Hoffs. But what I love here is the fact that her work with Matthew Sweet is just for the sheer joy of doing good music. She's not looking for chart rankings or record sales. She's just enjoying herself. That's why she sounds so great. According to some, even better than in the 80s. I don't know why, but it makes me happy to see her perform just for the joy it brings her. FYI, she's a '59 Capricorn. We're awsome.
Ms. Hoffs has such a wonderful, honey drenched voice. You can get absolutely lost in the sound she makes. Oh yeah...she's also very easy on the eyes as well. Looking forward to hearing more Under the Covers material in the future.
Performing is never a chore to susanna Hoffa , you get a real sense of enjoyment from her and a wanting to personally share songs with her audience. I swear down that even though she is known the world over that her greatest attributes are overlooked and she's like an undiscovered talent..... She makes it look do easy, because to her, it's a natural environment...... From hero takes a fall to this,, never tire of listening to her perform....
That was pure class, really liked that version of that song, I never realised Susanna was that good a singer, I ended up buying two of her solo albums because of seeing some of her work on RU-vid. I'll check out her work with Sweet aswell, they make a good team. You can't beat raw talent and she definitely has it, she still looks lovely.
Thanks for the confirmation. It's been years since I last saw him live in concert, playing lead guitar and pedal steel for k.d. lang at a Portland show. He and Matthew Sweet certainly hit all the right notes in this performance. Just a stunning collaboration on a classic tune by the very under-appreciated Mike Nesmith.
A beautiful version. The harmonies and the arrangement along with Susanna Hoffs on lead vocals with that rasp in her voice was just absolutely on point, and she is still a stunning looking woman.
Of course nothing and no one beats Linda's version and Linda's voice. But still, here, Susanna is proven to be not only (eternally) gorgeous but a great voice too. Excellent performance from a great singer.
Matthew is doing some really nice harmony singing on this one. And the fellow playing lead- who is it?- plays some very tasty fills. And, of course, Susanah Hoffs is a godess- plain and simple.
Susanna Hoffs is tremendous! She looks great! I always enjoyed hearing her sing and it's great to see her working with Matthew Sweet. I am a fan of his work too. He is very talented too!
man i had forgot all about her then i had a random thought of her 20yrs later.went to nude pics hoping but found all of these[so much better]shes still stunning and that voice this made my evening THANKS GW
I think I'm wearing a groove out on this video, like I did with my vinyl..........Can't stop watching or listening to it........She really is just as gorgeous now as 20+ years ago. As somebody pointed out, love the eyes at the 22 second mark. And, that voice mesmerizes me. Especially love the way she sings "Soooo, good bye"
Last night after I'd rehearsed for about 15 hours in two days, I pulled this video up. My sweetie has heard me play and sing this tune hundreds of times. I begged her that that if she ever left me for another woman that it please be Suzanna Hoffs, lol. But she's not going anywhere.
I was 13 years old in late summer 1967, when I stood 10 feet from totally unknown Linda Ronstadt, as she lip-synched this during the taping of a cheesy little afternoon teen TV dance show called "The Groovy Show". Needless to say, I was smitten forever, and right then I "knew" she would be a huge star [I was right]. Other than Linda, there is nobody I would rather see sing this number than Susanna, thanks for posting it.
I actually got to listen in on a phone conversation between Linda and Susanna. Don't worry I didn't invade anyone's privacy. Its on RU-vid. It was wonderful to hear them speak to each other as if no one was listening. Check it out.
That's very cool ... I saw Linda in concert in Nov. 1976. I wasn't 10 feet, be not to far from the stage. Also, the only autograph I have ever gotten is that of Susanna Hoff, on the back of my shirt, had nothing else to write on.
She still does that "look sideways with eyes while head facing straight ahead" thing she used to do with The Bangles, most prominent in Walk Like An Egyptian video. Susanna Hoffs is over off my all time favorite voices and it's great to hear her over different music.
I will face it and embrace it! She is BEAUTIFUL at any age. And she's got the most incredible eyes in the history of American show business--right up there w/Liz Taylor's violet peepers. Such talent and beauty! Let's applaud women who age gracefully, those who remain vital & true & proud and are all the sexier for being so comfortable in their own skin after age 50 (or 60 or 70): Jeanne Moreau, Charlotte Rampling, Lauren Hutton, Sela Ward, and of course, Helen Mirren. All gorgeous!
Susanna du Traum meiner schlaflosen Nächte , deine sanfte dezent rauchige Stimme, macht mich nach all den Jahren immer noch schwach. 50 Jahre alt , wenn ich das so sehe , unglaublich oder?
It's beautiful how Susanna no longer worries about those little sexy "slide glances" that she used in the 80s. She just gets inmersed in the song and just enjoys the moment and the interpretation of the music. She no longer is concerned with making something that "sells" but rather something of quality. And that little raspiness that comes out in her voice on some notes sounds so awsome, and sexy. It's something that she's developed as she's grown older. I've always wondered in that alternative universe, what would have happened if the Bangles hadn't broke up in 1989 and had continued a few more years instead of that 10 year hiatus.
@@youjoker9647 i meant the bangles can't compete on nirvana and green day in the 90s since it's the grunge era. Well if your a bangles fan and didn't like what i said don't worry im not fan of those 2 bands for me i appreciate all of their music
@@youjoker9647 if you're thinking my comment is hate toward the bangles no your wrong it's just the year 1990s was ruled by nirvana and greenday. i loved the bangles
Susanna is an amazing singer, but my goal today is watching as many covers of "Different Drum" as I can for a radio program I'm writing and recording. And all I have found through this 3-hour research is that Linda Ronstadt was the most natural, sweetest and amazing female singer I think I've ever heard in my life. But that is not to say I don't appreciate Susanna/Bangles. I LOVE The Bangles, but nobody can seem to move me with a version of "Different Drum" like Linda. A strange realization I'm finding today.
Good pull. I think LR is one of the most underappreciated singers of our time. Of course, I'm just kind of discovering that recently. I can't wait to see her movie on CNN soon.
Linda was a natural and gifted enough a marvelous voice. Do you know the story of that song? The stone poneys had their own folk version but the studio just wanted Linda sans the band. They made her record the song by herself and right there she realized it was a different version and faster tempo she had rehearsed. Still, she recorded it in just one take not even knowing what was happening. She was that gifted. Now, Susanna Hoffs does a amazing work with this tune. I love all her covers. She just adds something to them.
Well what can I say, Susanna that was simply beautiful girl. The understanding that a singer needs to possess with the song that they are singing is fundamental and it is crystal that you have this fine tuned to perfection. The ability to move the listener physically and emotionally is not within everybody's ability, but you possess barrel loads of it. Incidently your songs with the Bangles really had a quality to them nobody else possessed at the time and you will be remembered for that.X
incredible! Susanna's voice has a deliciously raspy lilt to it now, a sexy scratch that wasn't there in her early days. she gets better & better as a singer and her beauty never fades. Hope MS knows what a treasure he has beside him.
"Susanna" a la Reba, Dolly, Martina, Tonya, Carrie, Taylor, Loretta, Patsy, Faith, Shania, Lee Ann, LeAnn, Jo Dee, June, Tammy, Connie, Barbara, and Emmylou. Susanna is right there in my mind and would KO country radio!!!!!
how beautiful is she still? I remember as a kid having a crush on her in the bangles. Love the song too, very beautiful voice still a beautiful song too.
You and I travel to the beat of a different drum Oh, can't you tell by the way I run Every time you make eyes at me, whoa You cry and always say it will work out But honey child, I've got my doubts You can't see the forest for the trees But don't get me wrong It's not that I knock it It's just that I am not in the market For a boy who wants to love only me Yes, and I ain't saying you ain't pretty All I'm saying is I'm not ready For any person, place or thing To try and pull the reins in on me So goodbye, I'll be leaving I see no sense in this crying and grieving We'll both live a lot longer If you live without me So don't get me wrong It's not that I knock it It's just that I am not in the market For a boy who wants to love only me Yes, and I ain't saying you ain't pretty All I'm saying is I'm not ready (I'm not ready) For any person, place or thing To try and pull the reins in on me So goodbye, I'll be leaving I see no sense in this crying and grieving We'll both live a lot longer If you live without me
Anyone who listens to this and doesn't fall in love with this cover is...well...I don't know. They could almost own this song. Hoffs voice is like a siren's song luring you. What isn't there to love about her performance? Sweet's harmonizes perfectly and his voice range perfectly complements Hoffs. I've lost no love at all for the original from the Stone Poneys...Linda Rondstadt is a vocal goddess herself...but this cover comes pretty f'n close.
Susanna's voice is amazing! She was awesome in the eighties. If she was born 20 years earlier, she would have been as big as Simon and Garfunkle, if she had done folk music! :)
