Suspension Kinematics in Fusion 360 | How To Track and Plot Bump Steer

In this video we are going to answer another users question about how to plot things like Bump Steer using Fusion 360. Well..... The short answer is that it can't, not on its own. In this video we will go over a few critical steps to gathering this information.

In order to make this work you need a few things.
1. Understand and Lock the kinematics of your assembly to look only at key movements.
2. Create references to measure from.
3. Record the data in a spreadsheet manually....

There might be shortcomings but it's much easier in Fusion360 than it was on a drafting table in 1962 when I was doing suspension design :-)

Sounds like some interesting stories :) For sure, but when other CAD software will do this automatically and allow you to define spring/dampers and plot the kinematics of those points...... Economy of scales though. If you are designing a lot of suspension(now a days) there are specific tools.

Very interesting, thank you. I've been in the SW industry for years and no matter how complex and clever the SW all gets it's amazing the number of times you just need a good old spreadsheet to actually do things!

Thanks! The computer i use for these i got from www.mysolidbox.com it was a creative level 2 with a few minor tweaks. It is about 2 years old at this point so the one they list now is slightly different. Mine has a core i7 10700k processor which is a little faster than what the current offer is(i think) and 32gb ram. running a lower card the nvidia quadro p620. i found for most uses that a high end card really isn't needed. If i was still doing a ton of rendering/viz work i would opt for a higher end card and more ram. something with the cuda cores and GPU. Fusion doesn't really need that.
