It's really hard to put my finger on why but both of these actors have such star quality. Yet are so different

haha me too, I watched it but that ending..well it seemed different than what he remembers, crazy film..I mean I've seen quite a few old films but this was so different and really out there, Hitchcock really pushed it

1:04-1:14 ... my favorite trailer of all time. This trailer actually was scripted for the character. Very unique, and gripping.

yeah, people say that she won the Oscar for this movie beceause she was snubbed the year before. I haven't seen this, but FonTAINE'S performance is incredible. "I am Mrs. de Winter now," sends chills down my spine every time.

Very silly question but did movie trailers air on television back in the early days of television?
@Jamie.Laszlo
@Jamie.Laszlo 7 лет назад
I don't think so. There was quite a competition between TV and movies in the early days.

Think it was only in movie theaters.

The length of the trailer is the dead giveaway that these were for theater use only. Usually between double or triple features. Remember them. lol. For a dime, grandma would drop us kids off on the weekends. Real cheap babysitter.

Very few people had televisions back then, so it made better economic sense to put the trailers on in cinemas.

No, not when this movie came out. The first official, paid advertising to appear on American commercial television occurred on the afternoon of July 1, 1941, over New York station WNBT (now WNBC) before a baseball game between the Brooklyn Dodgers and Philadelphia Phillies. By 1947, when there were 40 million radios in the U.S., there were about 44,000 television sets (with probably 30,000 in the New York area). Regular network television broadcasts began on NBC on a three-station network linking New York with the Capital District and Philadelphia in 1944; on the DuMont Television Network in 1946, and on CBS and ABC in 1948. By 1948, 1 million homes in the United States had television sets. TV shows didn't really take off until the 1950s. Even then, there was a clear separation between movies and television.

LOVE Fontaine in this......But i think the overall move was overstated....."Monkey Face" is absolutely not an endearing pet name, i can not see any women open it, regardless how in love they might be.
@luismarioguerrerosanchez4747
I find that "pet name" hilarious, Cary Grant could deliver any absurd line and make it sound charming.

This I am watching again now. It’s a great movie. Except the use of Monkey Face to describe Joan. Ruins the movie actually. I say great movie. It is. But almighty what were they thinking by using that term?

Probably it was pretty boy Grant who wanted it

I watched this movie and I loved the message about how women are fragile they can break easily and you can put them back together with a nice warm excuse and how a little warmth goes a long way I felt sorry at first but it is how god created female and evolution said we will remain like this for now.
