The Birds Official Teaser Trailer #1 - Alfred Hitchcock Movie (1963) HD
The Birds Trailer - Directed by Alfred Hitchcock and starring Rod Taylor, Charles McGraw, Lonny Chapman, Joe Mantell, Doodles Weaver. Chic socialite Melanie Daniels enjoys a passing flirtation with an eligible attorney in a San Francisco pet shop and, on an impulse, follows him to his hometown bearing a gift of lovebirds. But upon her arrival, the bird population runs amok. Suddenly, the townsfolk face a massive avian onslaught, with the feathered fiends inexplicably attacking people all over Bodega Bay.

I managed to catch The Birds yesterday at the recent Fathom Events screening. It's still a great film, and even better on the big screen. This was actually my first Hitchcock film when I was a kid and it is my personal favorite of his work. A masterpiece of a film from a legendary filmmaker. In my opinion, there will never be another like him.

I really love how Hitchcock really cares about his films. I would love to see other directors do something like this. I really liked how he really wanted to make an impact on his audience in the theaters. Directors now days don't seem to care as much. It's sad:(

I reckon a lot of directors would love to do this, but not many of them have the screen presence that Hitchcock did. Maybe Martin Scorsese and David Lynch could pull off something along these lines. 🤔 But by the time trailers need to be made, they’re busy finishing the movies.

Hitchcock could be extremely funny. On a Dick Cavett show in which he appeared, they went to a commercial break. The commercial featured a laxative. It starts with people playing tennis, bike riding and jogging. When they cut back to him after the commercial he says in his own inimitable voice: "With all that jumping about I would think they wouldn't need a laxative".

He did the same thing with the Psycho trailer, the same dark humor, and showing almost nothing of the movie. Contrast with the modern approach of showing most of the best bits of the movie in the trailer. Hitchcock knew that if you wanted people to anticipate the movie, sometimes less is more.

No wonder the birds turned on them. "The birds are our slaves- I mean friends" I was looking for an explanation as why they attacked on the film, who knew the answer would be on the trailer.
@petitpois2281
@petitpois2281 4 года назад
Its amazing we are all so oblivious as to why they would attack to the point we'd need it explained to us. Never knew why the birds attacked either. Now it seems obvious. And it shows the horror in how we have so heavily normalised our abuse of animals .
@BrendanAurabolt
@BrendanAurabolt 2 года назад
@@petitpois2281 The story goes, Hitchcock doesn't reveal what the spark was at any point on purpose to spark discussion among the audience. According to Revelation 19:17-18 though, this movie is a preview of future events.

I've heard that if Kubrick was an artist for movies, Hitchcock was a writer for movies.
@Bluesit32
@Bluesit32 2 года назад
On the contrary, I think Hitchcock was a movie artist before Kubrick was. He had very specific shots in mind and made damn sure they were done right. The biggest difference is that Hitchcock didn't worry about irrelevant things, such as the color of the war room table in "Dr. Strangelove." It was shot in black and white, but Kubrick insisted that the table have green felt, making it akin to poker table to illustrate how the people within were gambling with the world.
