It’s a crazy time in the automotive world. Ford builds a better sports coupe than Jaguar, some of the most exciting new luxury cars are coming from Korea, and the Jeep Cherokee is less “Jeep-like” than its competitors. Strange times, indeed.
The Cherokee nameplate has a long and varied history with Jeep, but today it’s pinned onto their entry into the hotly contested and highly competitive compact crossover segment. Our tester is the nearly fully loaded High Altitude model; in the 1970s, that meant you had a unique catalyst and emissions system, but today, you get a 4G LTE WiFi hotspot, black and grey exterior accents, 19-inch wheels, FCA’s Uconnect infotainment system with GPS navigation and an 8.4-inch touchscreen, and a nine-speaker Alpine stereo with a subwoofer. It also apparently comes with special grey accent stitching, but you have to squint pretty closely to see it contrast against the very black interior.

I just purchased a 2022 Jeep Cherokee Latitude Lux and absolutely love it. I looked at the Rav 4, the Ford Bronco Sport, and the Mazda CX-5. I preferred the ride of the Cherokee over all of those other vehicles. The seats are really comfortable and the standard safety technology is a plus. The infotainment system is top notch and extremely easy to use. Another reason I bought the Cherokee, was it was available in inventory. All of the others had to be ordered and then you wait months and if you are lucky you might actually receive it! FCA is getting their vehicles into the marketplace despite the pandemic related supply chain issues.

I ditched my 2018 CRV for a 2020 Cherokee Limited, why? Because it is exactly as the reviewer told you! It rides smoother, the seats are light years more comfortable, the V6 engine is smooth and sounds great and the transmission shifts smoothly. Let’s face it, CVTs were designed for people who don’t like to drive. That said, seat comfort is completely subjective and while I found the Honda seats to be overly firm and uncomfortable YMMV. The CRV ride is no where near as compliant as the Cherokee either. That doesn’t make it a bad vehicle, because it was very reliable, got better gas mileage and had more hauling capacity so it really comes down to what’s important to YOU.

Lol. Are you kidding. After 3 years the CRV is still worth 25000 whole the Jeep is worth 15000. You think that's by accident ? You downgraded. I don't like feeling like I'm sitting in a shoe box.. CRV is ranked #1 for the last 10 years in 5 categories in every reviewer on the planet. Meanwhile jeep will not even make the top 40 anywhere. You will be living at the Chrysler service department , get that extended warranty.

@@elgreeko6241 blah blah blah. No facts all bs. 2015 Chrysler 200 has 183k on the clock. Door dashing , college driving, and high school shenanigans. It’s been through it all and I lobe him. He’s been out of warranty for 83k and I regret nothing.

@@elgreeko6241you’re a sheep listing to rankings and reviews. That gets you a rough ride ,Uncomfortable seats and a loud interior like the people mentioned for the competition.. the Cherokee is simply better when your brain is functioning properly! Like the body colored cladding, makes the suv look more upscale. Drove one with the 3.2l v6, ordered one with the turbo. The v6 felt doggy to me.

@stacyholt6529
@stacyholt6529 3 года назад
Driving the 3.2 V6 back to back with the 2.0t it's clear what the $1,000 is for. Same horse power but the additional 56 ft-lbs of torque available at a lower RPM makes it far more enjoyable to drive, taking the worry out of passing and pulling out in tight spots. The 3.2 is smooth and the power delivery is linear but there's not kick in the pants urgency when pushed. Currently in a leased 2018 Grand Cherokee Limited and I love the 3.6 and 8 speed auto. Going to be going to a 2021 Cherokee High Altitude 2.0t...just hope I can learn to love the ZF 9 speed as much as the more traditional and quite excellent ZF 8 speed.
@stacyholt6529
@stacyholt6529 3 года назад
@Pavlo Kasperskyi that I have not heard, but certainly a possibility. I still have until March and more research to do. I know the 2019 2.0t had an assembly defect in the top end of the engine which created one of the seemingly ever present recalls. Thank you for the heads up!

@@stacyholt6529 how do you like the ZF 9 speed?
@stacyholt6529
@stacyholt6529 2 года назад
@@Natethegreat200c honestly, it's an okay trans. The first to second shift can be very abrupt at light throttle inputs and I question the ninth ratio as the trans does not select in in highway or interstate driving speeds. I can manually select at 75+ miles per hour, but when placed back into auto, the trans will select eighth gear again. Once at operating temp, the trans is very quick with gear changes and pairs well to the fat torque curve the 2.0t offers with very little gear hunting on hills. They could probably take the "granny" first and ninth gears out of this trans, reduce complexity and have an even smoother experience.

Does the rear defrost come on under certain temperature with a. remote start? My 2020 Cherokee with the winter package (heated seats/wheel) doesn't, but I seem to recall my older 2015 Cherokee did. When asked in various forums, some people say theirs do, others say theirs doesn't. I'm just trying to figure out if the rear defrost only comes on in certain packages, or if there's some setting I'm just not seeing. Even the dealer wasn't sure, and when they tested a few similar models on their lot, the rear defrost did not come on.

Not too shabby. Personally I like the design and the hybrid system of the toyota rav4 better. Nice review though. Edit: If I wanted to go proper off-roading, I'd buy a suzuki jimmy as a second run about.

I would not take this over a CRV, RAV4 ,forester or even a sportage or Tucson. I've driven jeeps my whole life , as much as I like them, they don't come close to Japanese or Korean. The new Cherokee looks great , they fixed the lights, better than what they used to be , but if you sit in a CRV or Rav no way you want to sit in a Cherokee. Why. can't these guys get it right
@robertbrody4032
@robertbrody4032 3 года назад
Sorry, but I've driven all of these and the Cherokee is a nicer and more capable vehicle overall. I have no brand bias. I also drive a AMG Cabriolet and had a Hellcat for a while. If you want a small SUV that can actually handle a bit of off road, Jeep is the only game in town. There's literally nothing that even competes with a Cherokee Trailhawk for example...which is a shame. If you just want a SUV to be a "car" then a RAV4 or CRV are great picks.

@@robertbrody4032 most people who buy suvs don't plan on living in a jungle , so why even buy a jeep ? Chrysler is so far behind in every area , the only reason a person would buy a jeep is because of zero interest. I meant look at the depreciation factor ? You can buy a 3 year old Cherokee for peanuts , you think that's just a coincidence ? No way pal.

@@elgreeko6241 Jeeps aren't for "most" people nor are a lot of cars. Buy a Rav4 or CRV if you don't need what a Jeep can do. I own two Mercedes (both 4matics) and they depreciated worse than my Grand Cherokee Overland. My Wrangler depreciated even less and is ranked among the best for resale value. Many people DO live in areas with bad weather. Try a Cherokee Trailhawk on a snowy road vs. my previous Audi Q5 and you'll understand why Jeeps have a following. Next week we're shooing out in the desert in some rough areas. I'm NOT taking the Mercedes. And when you say they're "behind" what exactly are you talking about? Seems like most reviewers like them quite a bit. And resale keys heavily on model state. You can buy a Cherokee for peanuts when it predates the refresh. The same goes for a LOT of cars, including my previous AMG and BMW.
