So my daughters old car overheated and (I thought) blew the head gasket. As usual, I was wrong!

I have to warn you that I have no formal automotive training, and have just learned by breaking stuff. If you can learn anything from my mistakes then great, but you do so at your own risk!

Great video. Well put together and informative. The Altos are great little cars but the head gaskets seem to be a weak point or so I thought, maybe it's more the heads are the weak point after seeing this!.

Great video... Like your way of presentation and details. My Alto (2006) got overheated, took it to a garage and they replaced temperature sensor, radiator cap and that plastic fan connector is missing (I just checked it now !), so I think it was exactly the same problem.

Thanks for the kind comment. Sorry for the late reply (not getting any notifications for some reason?). I have had a few owners contact me with the same problem, seems like it is quite a common issue. Hopefully more people will see this before they have big problems and it will save them some money.

Thanks for the heads up on the fan connector. Checked mine and guess what, corroded up and no continuity. Saved me from a potentially nasty overheat.

Awesome video. Im in Australia and have brought a 2013 Alto 1.6 from the auctions and think it my have a blown head gasket as there is oil all over the place on the fire wall side of the engine. Didnt know there was so much work need to remove a head. How many hours would you say to pull it all down, fix a gasket and put it all back together as this is outta my skill set i think. By your video i may as well do the timing belt at the same time.

Thanks, I think the later Alto's are a very different beast, our old one had a Maruti engine. As for how long it took, I did it over a few weeks, waiting for parts etc, so very hard to work out. Sorry I'm not being much help but good luck sorting it out 🤞. I would ensure it's the head gasket before diving in though, oil in water/ water in oil? Cooling system over pressurising etc. Give it a really good clean down I try and identify the source. Again, good luck sorting it out 🤞. Cheers Larcs 👍

My alto radiator fan turns on often? Is it overheating? After a 5 km drive the fan is turning on without traffic. In traffic it's turning on almost every time.

Sounds like it might be. Worth checking your water level, thermostat and that your radiator isn't blocked before checking for head gasket. Good luck. Cheers Larcs

@@LarcsWorkshop coolant on the reservoir tank is full that is it on full mark and plus the coolant on radiator stays the same. I have change the thermostat and cap recently. Might be the radiator is clog? Thanks for the quick reply!
