Thank you guys for taking the time to watch this video! if you noticed any pros and cons that I neglected to discuss please leave them below in the comments and if I deem them an acceptable pro/con I will add it to the list in this description. I'll start with a con I didn't discuss in the video. REVERSE! This machine has no reverse gear. To me this isn't really a con as the other machines this quad was designed to compete with also did not have reverse. Regardless, I will add it.
Amendments
PROS:
-Smooth/Linear power curve (Nathan Mistler)
-Rider Triangle (Nathan Mistler)
CONS:
-No Reverse (Patrick Riggs).

I miss my ltr! Had power commander full HMF and air box eliminator. 13/39 sprockets and 20 inch tires. Trail riding king and held its own in the drags. Never had one problem out of it.

I've got an 09 LTR and it is a great machine. I think if we have a little knowledge of motors we should be okay when it comes to this quad. I'm keeping mine because they are becoming rare which to me makes them more fun to have. Clean quad by the way😀

Love this quad. Still own my 06 i bought new.. Have owned several of these. Mine is a 496 stroke.12.8 je piston. Did all the work and tuning myself. I have my base tune, then allow the autotune kit to make additional adjustments just like a car. Always has perfect AFR. 15t front sprocket, 20" rear, 22" front. Will easily do over 80mph. Very reliable. 0 issues once the fuel system is reworked. Still rocking the original oem clutch to give an idea how well it has been taken care of. Icecube cylinder on the self waiting for a 500cc plus build.

My 2009 LTR is my favorite I’ve ever had! Best handling and reliable in my opinion, it’s had a few fuel system issues but I now know how to fix them, mine is a 2009 bone stock down to the tires and grips, never been titled either still has the dealer certificate title.
@PatrickRiggs33

Just some extras about these for me: Power curve - very linear/smooth Rider triangle Also some of the upgrades that make it better: Changing the gear ratio Changing tire sizes Kicker swaps - weight savings & engine response Shift kit swaps - more positive shifts Shift pin relocators Then for more performance: +1 valves Port and polish Vortex Race cut air box For even more power - CRF hybrid CRF hybrid drops 40+lbs of weight
@PatrickRiggs33
@PatrickRiggs33 8 месяцев назад
Thanks! I added the smooth/linear power curve. I should have touched on that more. It does have an excellent rider triangle, but that is definitely a preference thing. Some consider the Honda the best in terms of "rider cockpit". The Yamaha has a very large/roomy feel. All excellent tips on ugprades.
@nathanmistler1186
@nathanmistler1186 8 месяцев назад
@@PatrickRiggs33 I like those upgrades because you will retain much of the reliability vs going straight to big bore. These bikes respond very well to +1 valves especially on the exhaust side where it gets choked. If I were going a cheap route for good power I would start with a port and polish and +1 exhaust valve. Then look at cams later, after saving to do a +1 intake side. I'm going to be sending mine off soon for +1 valves, port and polish and then a Vortex ECU.

Love my ‘06, got a ton of parts. Dasa exhaust, intake, Power Commander, full Elka suspension etc. The quad rips. But the only downside is they can run hot with mods. I bought mine for 3,500 in pristine condition.

My brother has a 2008 special edition "black plastics" model bone stock all but the yoshi cherry bomb. Motor has never had a bolt or nut turned on it since he bought it brand new. And i do agree with the handling it feels like its on rails in turns goes exactly where you point the front end.
@PatrickRiggs33
@PatrickRiggs33 8 месяцев назад
That's pretty slick! This one was 100% bone stock when I got it. Every stock part I took off (parking break, headlight, stock dash, etc...) I bagged up and put in my LTR spare parts tub. Nothing custom on this one just simple bolt ons so could be returned to stock one day. That is really cool your brother kept it like that, something like that will be worth something in 20 years especially a clean stock example. Hope he keeps it!

great vid man super thorough - fuel filter is a pain , but it isn't end of the world. people have issues with the fuel system ( myself included, have had em :D ) but once you get the hang of it you're good to go. my biggest con you didn't mention , granted mine was abused :/ , is the Aarms and the ball joints being machined in -.- love my stock suspension though!!
@PatrickRiggs33
@PatrickRiggs33 8 месяцев назад
Hahaha that is definitely a con if you plan on staying with stock arms. I actually already cut the stock ball joints off, and drilled and tapped them for FRAP 3002 threaded ball joints. Much better! Unfortunately, they are all like this except for the YFZ450R's.
@itsmeitsdrew
@itsmeitsdrew 8 месяцев назад
@@PatrickRiggs33 ah man that would have been a great vid! did you lose any width? I've been on the fence of doing it just because i love my ride currently, but the whoops at croom are taking a toll on the ball joints :D

Yep my friend bought one brand new. Sure did handle better than my 2006 banshee. That's when I decided to get after market suspension and set it up similar to the Suzuki 450. Obviously the banshee was making low 70 hp. He ended up loving the banshee better after I spent the money on suspension. He sold the Suzuki.

@PatrickRiggs33 we started out with Honda 400's. Then I bought the brand new Suzuki 400z. Later on I sold the 400z for the 2006 banshee when I found out Yamaha was going to stop selling them. My friend sold Honda 400 for the new Suzuki 450. All the thought and money I put into the banshee was a result of what I like and didn't like about the the Suzuki 450. The banshee xc build is a mix between your Honda and 450. Obviously I was looking for instant bottom mid and top end power spread out like a four-stroke so case porting, boost ports, and cylinders was needed along with proper carbs, exhaust, ect.

Hey Patrick don’t know if you’ve covered this on the channel previously do you have any recommendations for fox floats setup just bought 07 ltr450 not too long ago came with floats and houser setup looking for good settings for clickers high/low speed and rebound headed out to glamis at the end of the month and just wanted to reach out and see what’s the best setting recommendations for these floats
@PatrickRiggs33
@PatrickRiggs33 8 месяцев назад
Really depends on your weight and riding style but try this: EVOL: 215-230 PSI Main: 35 PSI Rebound: 12-14 clicks out Low Speed Comp: 12-14 clicks out High Speed : back way out to like 18-20 clicks out See how that feels 👍

Hey Patrick first off sweet looking LTR . I recently picked one up from an older gentleman who said he never jumped or did anything crazy to it. He was the original owner back in 06 when he bought it. Anyway Upon doing some research I wanted to install a few parts but don’t want to sacrifice reliability. The bike is currently bone stock besides maybe a uni air filter. I plan on installing a full yoshi exhaust but people say you need to add a cherry bomb module to unlock its potential and make the bike run fine because of of the fuel injection is this true? Others haven’t installed anything and said it ran perfectly fine. I don’t want to ruin its reliability and plan on keeping it because it an amazing machine. Ohh yeah and is a power commander needed would it serve a special purpose? Any other suggestions would be greatly appreciated. Thanks 🙏
@PatrickRiggs33
@PatrickRiggs33 6 месяцев назад
As long as you only plan on running a full system and uni filter all you need is a cherry bomb. Yes you need it. Doesn't have to be a yoahimira cherry bomb, it could be any kind of fuel map key that accesses the 2nd map within the ECU. HMF Makes one, along with others.
