I think that the SV650 is one of the best bikes ever made and after 25 years, it is now a classic in its own right. I noted that you find it better built than the Hornet, which now competes with it. I think that a choice would come down to rider comfort, price and personal choice on looks. I am glad that you gave the SV650 a shot. Another great video!
I remember the first time I rode an SV… it was a gen 1 and at the time I was full fairing sport bikes with the low bars and high pegs, and I was amazed at how joyful the SV felt just puttering about a neighborhood at responsible “I’m in a neighborhood” speeds. That was about 20 years ago and I haven’t ridden in 15, but this bike is at the top of the list to scratch the itch I’m feeling right now.
It is one of the best post millennium bikes made. It certainly outperforms its price and size but is so relaxed if needed. You should definitely get yourself a test ride on one😁 great comment 😁 thank you 😁
I've had a Gen 1 2000 X reg SV650s in Candy Blue since 2000 with a genuine 7K miles - 23 years and counting, it has outlived the dealer I bought it from here in W.Yorks. It stood for about 8 years while kids were a priority and I never thought of selling it. I have two other modern bikes and the SV still has its place. The SV sails through its annual MOT, bags of character, dynamic, reliable, tough, light, nimble, comfortable, kept it rust free, cheap to insure and run, easy 60mpg normal riding, fun in the dales when I want to go for a Sunday scratch and I'll get around 50mpg on E5 (45mpg when I used to ride with the 1000cc boys back in the day). Since new it's had two new batteries and tyres due to wear & tear and THAT IS IT!!! It's still running on the orignal chain and sprokets partly due to the heavy gear oil I use, original disks partly due to engine braking of the V-twin engine... I wouldn't say its a good bike, I'd say it is a great bike.
Brilliant 😁 absolutely fantastic 😊 that’s what it is. A bike that spans two centuries and out lasts most marriages, businesses and governments.😁 thanks J 😁
SV 650 ------ Fanfare for the Common Motorcyclist ! And if it ain't broke don't fix it . I was thinking Springer Spaniel too . Watching TAYM during breakfast , it makes Ricin Bran palatable ! 😆 Marvelous .
Got my first Suzuki in 1978 - a two stroke three cylinder GT550. It took me and my girlfriend from Denmark to Southern France, Monaco and back again. Now 66 years old I bought a 2017 SV650 a month ago. I've only ridden 1000 miles on it, but I love it already. It's great! I bought this for touring!
I bought a '23 blue, bronze frame SV 650 about a month ago. This is a 1st class, grade A, no. 1 machine. Looks better than some color combos on SV's. Excellent build quality, handling, and even with stock exhaust, sounds wonderful.Don't have to change much, except tail tidy and some safety bits. There is something special about these Vtwins and the cam gear whine they emit. Happy man.
I’ve just bought a 2023 in grey with metallic red wheels 😁 not my first choice but got a fantastic deal 😁 so as you imagine, I agree totally with you 😁
@@TAYM Good man. The grey with red wheels definitely looks cool. Never seen one in the states. Would have definitely bought one. Yours is somewhat unique in that combo. Ride safe and enjoy this excellent machine.
The power of 90° sport V-twin is unreal.. The torque, the pull.. Sometimes they say it is a new rider bike.. It is absolutely not. I've just send some interesting pics for Friday's mutter 😇😇
Yes I had the SV650 with straight bars (not the X model). 260 mile ride to North Yorkshire was not a problem as it was happy on all roads. Everything you said about it is true. Good review and not raining . Marvellous.
My better half had one of the first models with the rounded fairing, in metallic blue, for several years and she loved it. It was a lovely little bike to ride and that engine was a peach. I’m glad Suzuki decided to keep making them, they’re brilliant bikes!
Another popular but undervalued motorcycle given the spot light. Great job. I have to wonder how many people started their motorcycle journey on a bike like this or were able to keep riding because of this bike? I really wonder. I think it’s an unsung hero of the motorcycling world.
I owned dozens of bikes and for all round use this bike was easily the best, I modified mine for semi off road. I dropped the back end a little and increased the trail which greatly increased the stability on road, it was a bit twitchy beforehand. Only problem was the clutch which was a sod to get right on adjustment, would recommend to anyone.
@@TAYM The V strom was very different, too tall and too heavy, but still a good bike. I tried one but it wasn't a patch on my converted SV, not a patch
What a great summary of a great bike I have just bought my 3rd SV after selling my bandit, had a gen 2 naked and two gen 3 naked's can easily get you into trouble if you give then some beans. Great on fuel as you said, great for commuting and weekend blasts. Keep up the good work Mr Taym and ride safe.😊
I can remember friends riding the mighty SV650 bikes back in the day. I wish I'd been more sensible back then and had one in my garage. I went for the ZZR1200 at the time and had many memorable adventures but I should have had the SV650 instead of the Vulcan Classic as my other bike in the mid 00's.
Great review I actually cancelled my hornet order and after a test ride I'm about to pick up my brand new sv....such a fun bike. Fantastic deal and real world value, just couldn't beat it 👍
I watched 15 mins of this a couple of weeks back & only just caught the rest! 😮👍 I have since been checking these out online & even went & sat on 1 yesterday infact! 😎👍 I seen you on ER's livestream I'm sure & that's how I discovered you! 😎👍
Marvellous model, especially with the round headlights ( stop hassling Dave, Im sticking up for the short man at 5"6 ) I was very keen on this bike after my short time with the Suzuki TU 250, also a great gear box, they just didnt have any in the country they are so popular ... and several mates have had them and one still does - thanks TAYM you're a trouper being out all year for us ...
My daughter had a gladius ( Gladyss) 09 plate. Was totally immaculate no corrosion. Acf50 applied by compressor biannually. I rode it when we swapped my nc750 for a day. Totally lovely do it all bike. Very reasonably priced and totally reliable. Very easy diy too
Not sure if Springer fits this bike. Certainly our Springer (Chili) will do anything BUT what you ask. Another good all-rounder, suitable for most purposes except off-roading.
"What category is it in?" It's in the soon to be Classic Retro Naughty boy bike class. It's age and the the fact that this could be the last V twin version, will make it classic and collectable. I've heard Suzuki are moving to parallel twins as a more cost effective easier form to work with. It'll be sad if it goes, Euro regulations are fairly strangling options for manufacturers. Take the Honda CB1300, a stunning looking classic bike now only sold in Japan. The ZZR1400/ZX14 only sold in America and the Far east because Kawasaki refused to strangle their flagship engine. Bikes which do manage to make it through have chimney stacks for exhausts, massive catalytic converters and no Soul to their sound. An excellent review yet again Mr TAYM 👍😀
Morning Mr TAYM, damn camera’s are fickle thing 🙄😂. I was tempted with an early SV650 before buying my Hornet back in the day, but as good as it was, it just didn’t stir my soul. Bought the Hornet and loved it, but often hankered after an SV, the one with upright bars. They do sound naughty when fitted with a decent end can 😊. Cheers
I've never ridden an SV650 although a friend of mine has one that she loves and has put a ton of miles on it with no issues. Personally I've always preferred the look of the naked one rather than the X and I've always thought it looks very much like it would be a budget Ducati Monster. It looks incredible value for money and it's definitely a safe buy with it's well proven reliability. I think definitely more of a Springer than a Labrador though it seems like it wants to play and it could get you into trouble with its enthusiasm.
Morning Taym that’s a bike I have always liked and should of had one 😖 I think you must have clinched the deal if the young lady that’s interested in the bike as watched your video 👍
As a friend of (probably) the young lady that was mentioned I can confirm that she did test ride this Bike but wasn't in love with the leant forward position. She also test rode a Kawasaki Ninja 650 and a Honda CBR650R. The Honda being the one she fell in love with the looks of. But what did she buy?.....A brand new standard model SV650, being delivered to her home this friday.
I'd take the looks of this SV over the new Hornet all day long. Plus i'm a big fan of this engine and on my second Wee Strom atm. Clip on bars aren't for me anymore though and the SV has always felt physically a bit small for my tall frame. I'm interested to see what the new GXS-8S will be like to ride when its in dealers, just wish it had modern classic looks like the SV.
Wonderful 😁 our mate Brian has an Sv650 and he loves it! Love these reviews, keeping it simple and sharing the experience from a real world perspective. I’m finding myself anticipating the senses and try to preempt the taste, I got this one wrong and went for Everton Mint! 😁 but sensible liquorice to balance the naughty sweetness, hilarious ! And, yes we must have the what breed of dog would this bike be assessment 🤭
I think 650cc is just about Right for Todays Roads ..I had an SV in Banana Yellow Back in 2003.. Still on a 650 now in 2023 Thinking about the New Hornet But will I use the. Extra Power ? As you say often during your Mutters to much Traffic
Marvelous review TAYM. Great bike and good value but it's image suffers from being seen as a Learner/lady's bike which is unfair. the front suspension is it's weakest point in my opinion but not difficult to upgrade. The 2nd hand value's have really suffered from the new Hornet though and there are lot of overpriced ones hanging around at dealers everywhere.
Damn, there I was about to go out and put a deposit down. Looks, for a modern bike, rather good. Seat height tested by TAYM, just for me, but then you let me down! Quote, ‘Everything solid as a rock’ BUT then you mention the tyres don’t last for ever! Struck straight off my list! ☹😂
😂😂😂😂 you are so picky, I tested the seat height especially for you and just knew the tyres would put you off😕 good job I didn’t mention brakes or chains and sprockets 😁😂😂😂
This one has never been on my radar TAYM but it looks ok bit sanguine on this , those bars don't really do it for me but it is a Suzuki so it's going to be reliable I reckon . Less than £5,000 well good value but to be honest I would probably go for a Street 675 which would be around that price or would I ? ya know what just now I don't know what I want i'm hopping from one to another their is just so much to choose from these days it's just mind boggling 🤪I think your right the 800 will replace this one .I knew you were not that impressed with the Hornet which I was a little surprised by but looks wise it is angular I guess bit transformer looking .😉👌👍
There was a time when it was either the start or end of the week, because Mr TAYM had a video out, nowadays i'm not so sure 🤣 Personally I like the standard SV650, and its a shame that the v twin is rumoured to be replaced Just how short are Dave's lil pins? Mine are smurf like, hence my universal lowering kit 🤣🤣
TAYM fills up a ‘bike that doesn’t belong to him! I hope they don’t watch this channel back in Yorkshire! There was a guy in the village who had a Suzuki SV650 and he suffered from MOT phobia; yes, it really is a thing, with 14 million sufferers in the UK apparently. Anyway, every year he used to ask me to take it for its test and I agree, it is a ‘sensible naughty bike’. Docile as kitten until you asked it to be a cheetah! I used to look forward to my yearly ride!
Suzuki make a very reliable bike from my experience. I have a similar engine in my V strom1000 which can also be a naughty bike :). I'm getting around 60Mpg from my Vstrom with some naughtyness and around 66 is sensible which is good for a 1037cc motor. I have ridden in the company of two mates who have a triumph 1050 and a Triumph 955i and ridng at similar speeds (Naughty speeds) they were only managing 43mpg, the the V twins are perhaps just a bit more economical?!
The only thing I dislike TAYM is the brake fluid reservoir looks like a urine sample bottle..................everything else makes it a winner. I have the DL650 and if I had the funds for another I think I would be tempted with having this in the garage. Looks cafe racer ish but still modern to the point of ABS without all the faffing of modes etc, servicing can be done at home too.
Great bike to start with then they made the gladius 😖😖😖then they went back to sv🥰 like the vstrom always looked over to much more techy expensive desirable bikes buuuuut hey each to his own .....🖐👍
