2020 Suzuki V-Strom 1050 Review | A back to back comparison & review with the V-STROM 1000. Having owned a 2014 Suzuki Vstrom for 5 years, I was very keen to ride the latest V-Strom 1050 from Suzuki. Branded as "vanilla" or "boring", this latest V-Strom has received a luke-warm reception from owners and moto-journos alike. Is it worth upgrading? How does it compare to the older model?

A little late to the party with this vid, but by far the most thorough and thought provoking review that I have seen and I was glued to the screen the entire time. Well done!

Excellent comparison! I have a 2017 DL650 which I love so, of course, now I'm looking hard at 1000' and 1050's.

Great review, this bike is on my radar. Currently have an '18 DL1000XT. I have ridden the new 1050 and really liked the balance and stability. Would also like to try out out the R1200GS.

This vstrom had to grow on me, still dont fancy the yellow and would go for the gray/blue. Had a 650 04mod for years and its was a gem. Still regret selling it. Im leaning on going back to the vstrom. Also a fan of the 17 to 19mod. Great review sir. 🇳🇴☕

As a Yellow 2018 1000 XT owner, thank you for the informative comparison. Love the look of the new bike and updates to the electronics. Agree the price might be a touch high, I purchased mine for the value of what you get. But it is tempting if I saw a good deal out there…

I got my 14'Vee as the ADV package which meant hard pans of plastic, crash bars that do not really cover all they should, no heat/cruise BUT I added all that stuff, got some soft pans for off road, more protection, dropped the front sprocket from 17T to 15T making it a buzz saw. ESPECIALLY in the 1.5-5 thousand low torque range that is AWESOME! I like the simplicity of it, have taken it every condition and terrain and still LOVE it. The BUT I had to do these things to get it how I wanted it (Oh and I got one of the inexpensive clamp type cruise controls-works just fine). I DO have to say I was raised riding this last 5 years and used to bikes that you kick started, had NO protection, burned you on my upgraded expansion chamber (know what that is?) on my many times bored out 175 Enduro. So I am used to rolling into the badlands wearing my work boots, jeans and a T shirt as protection. Its all we had until I raced. Ok yeah, Im a dinosaur but still ride, still lead rides on/off road with my Vee and still love it. Its only a '14, and for a Vstrom that is still brand new! I still need to put another 200,000 miles on it so I do not feel guilty trading it in, probably by that time for a Max Scooter. I had one when I broke my neck/back and could not get my leg over a bike. The Burgman 650 was an amazing machine and they are really gaining in popularity. They are fast, fun, easy to ride and dependable. I had street guys giving me creds on the scoot for its quickness. Anyway, back to this review, I LIKE that you give an honest review. THAT is so rare these days. As you said here, Suzuki refined the Vee just up a bit over the last gens while keeping the GOOD qualities on the ride. You were spot on that the Vstrom is about the most sold ADV bike in the world due to its reasonable price and that durability and reliability it is known for. It is always listed in the top ten bikes or the review is not

Just got my new out of the box 2018 dl1000 x, so in love with it, opted for the older generation over the 1050, it was an amazing deal, and just love the bike ! See ya on the road BMR, aloha from Salt Spring.

Hello from Nova Scotia. An excellent comprehensive comparison between the two models. I too have the 2014 with the same windscreen and a two brothers slip-on (mainly for the weight savings but it sounds fun too). I'm in love with the bike and agree with all your observations. As you I think Suzuki took a chance with the price point and If you're correct and the price drops to a more v-strom level I may take the leap. I sometimes dream of the BMW R1250RT but can never justify the extra 15K. Love the opinions.

Nice review BMR, and I agree with most of what you say. I changed up from 2018 model to the 1050XT, so let’s get this torque deficit kicked into touch. To be honest, I really don’t know what all the fuss is about. Yeah, there’s a slight difference, but I ride with a mate who still has a 2017 model, when he goes, I go with him, and by the time I hit 5K I’m ready for an overtake. Then again, I went up 2 teeth on the rear sprocket, that might be the difference. If you had never rode the previous V Strom, you would still say that is a torquey engine. I think you hit the nail on the head, when you said you say you have the Z900 for sports riding, I had a Ducati Scrambler 1100 for that purpose to. That’s where the 1050 scores well, it likes to party, and it can party with the best of them. I can understand bikers not wanting to upgrade with their hard earned cash to what they think is not a big shift in performance, as for me, no regrets.
