So beautiful to see TMK asking violinist to play sahana when he clearly needed a break to get his voice and mind to freshen up. Love the quixotic touches in his concerts , be it the order, type of compositions, where to sing thaanam, niraval, tutorial of how to sing swarams using varnam chittaswarams, breaking the artificial norms set by 20 th century musicians. In addition to brimming with bhaavam and cerebral/aesthetic balancing, these quixotic approaches [which some people criticise] are what nurtures real art. This will help art grow without diluting it in anyway. People are always afraid of changes, I am a fan of any change which does not affect the aesthetic/cerebral/paddhathi aspects of this great music. This is why I love TMK. Dhanyasi -Ahiri -Surutti- Devaghandari- Saurashtram thread is a testament of perfect cerebral work of using common prayogams between these raagas as a common link , but also perfectly balancing aesthetically as one flowed into the other making perfect sense. Very rarely he makes me smile when the orders are a bit funny. But this makes it even more interesting. Mahatrupthi. In future would be great to see tradition soaked Senior accompanists like Sangeetha Kalanidhi Kanyakumari accompany TMK. [If only MSG was alive, he would have seized it] Senior mridangist have accompanied.
note to self: if you have about 20 mins, listen from 1:09:33 onwards - forget all analysis and expectations - just sit with your eyes closed, let it build up and allow the music to carry you where it wants. you will hopefully get a glimpse into the power of music and why people devote entire lifetimes in appreciation and pursuit of this feeling...
...in fact.... start from 1:03:30 mark to not miss the transition from taanam to pallavi... it is so beautiful and seamless... TMK does that quite often....
After TMK's soul-filling Kumara Ettera kriti in Todi, 'Gajavadana sammodita', rich in gandhara-dhaivata samvaada, which am yet to get over even after countless times listening, this new kriti of Syama Sastry has literally pulled me into deep space and that's it...!
Mr. T.M.Krishna's kalaparamanam makes me drop my jaw. He must be engaged in grueling sadhana. A purist to the core and avant-garde at the same time...His singing makes us reconsider our usual listening habits and recovers the Thodi that we have long forgotten, thanks to speed
Todi; shahana; (dhanyasi-surutu-arabhi) to saurashtra ( Extremely freakish sequence - no value added at all, waste of time); kIravAni; behag; sindubhairavi; khamas.
To all the people commenting about how Arun Prakash sir isn't playing half the time - only if you accompany someone who sings at TMK sir's pace with all the bhava, will you know how difficult it is to even touch the mridangam without disturbing the ambience, leave alone accompanying continuously. Please rewind and go to places where he stops playing for a few seconds and the grand effect it has when he resumes ! That is the beauty of silence. If you still don't get it, just pick a different set of artists to listen to and calm the hell down ! PS - Glad to see some bigots and conservatives in the comments section ( more will follow soon ). I wonder why it pinches you'll so much that you take time to hear snippets of his concerts and shame him. May God help you'll !
Exactly, there is aesthetic beauty in both style of accompaniment, be it sarvalagu or more filled accompaniment albeit I would prefer this style over the one filled with sollu. Often times the environment surrounding the upcoming percussionists is such that they need to prove their mettle that they need to go beyond Thani to amplify their prowess ending up having extremely complicated solkattu in between sangathis.
Don't care about the political controversy surrounding him. I am here only to listen to the music. And I found it absolutely enchanting. Thank you BSS for sharing this.
Amazing concert!. Excellent singing by TMK as usual! It takes tremendous effort and skill to play mridangam for a musician like TMK who is truly out of the world when it comes to handling slow tempo songs. And Arun Prakash sir actually does a tremendous job in TMK's concerts - and I am not talking just about this one. The expectations of the bigots/conservatives (not just in this thread but in any other related forum) is hard to understand. I have found TMK's music to be stunning and very unique and there are very few who can perform like that in today's era - I don't think anyone sings slow tempo songs the way he does in today's carnatic music world.
Sornalatha looks so cute and has accompanied very well..this was the first time I saw her with TM Krishna! Thank you and hope to see more. Needless to say, no words to describe the classic SSI thodi swarajathi lessons rendered with additional Krishna icing on the cake.
Superb mrundhangam and ghatam accompaniments. Excellent timings. TMK should retain them for all his concerts. Swarnalatha on violin appears to me as some what reluctant. I have seen in other videos, her sibling Subbulakshmi giving return blows immediately for everything TMK strikes and it is a pleasure to watch. Swarna has vidwat, but should confidently hit back. I fully appreciate this team. Thanks to Bharathiya samagana sabha for posting this concert here for rasikas like me.
I was at this concert In January of last year 😅 it was preceded by a concert of Emmanuelle Martin at chowdaiah memorial hall . 😇 I was late and walked in towards the end of rave himagiri and I was slapping myself for having missed it . I was so smitten just by the last swaram that I frantically looked for his recordings of it online and couldn’t find it anywhere and it left a palpable void in me for a year . I’m ecstatic that I found this after a year and finally listened to what I had missed . And my god , I was right in being distraught for a year , I really had missed a masterpiece . So grateful to SHAALE LIVE for uploading this and liberating me from my year long anguish 😇
Sir I came during kalpanasvara of sahana varnam and I was scolding myself for coming late after the person to my right told me he sang rAve as first item. Good that they uplaoded it
The manodharma niraval & swaram for Kaligiunte super. Thaniavartanam is so melodious to hear. Arunprakash in mridangam is so nice to hear. Tks for uploading such an excellent concert.
sahana varnam was an absolute joy. fairly routine alapana and starting, surprise mid-song taanam - tight rendition on adi talam by both tmk and swarnalatha with seamless transition to the charanam (well spotted by arun prakash), incredible kalpanaswarams ending on swarams!, beautifully closed off by arun prakash again. expert flair!
3Shiyais are also singing with you Mr.T.M.Krishna sir! You are great! Legend.Violinist also renderring beautifully.Accompaniments are Geniuos!Kutcheri is fine!May God bless you for the coming New Year 2019.
A well-executed concert! Sruti shuddham, laya shuddham, and a lot of bhavam. Unusual in parts - but so what? It adds to the overall drama, so it becomes enjoyable. Very supportive and embellishing accompaniment from the violinist Akkarai Sow. Sornalatha; and the two percussionists - Sri Arun Prakash on the Mridangam and Sri V Guruprasad on the Ghatam. Arun's style of playing is very subdued and hence the long pauses. Enjoyed the Tani Avarthanam as well. As rasikas, we need to recognize that there will always be a few who may not like the concert or certain aspects of it; and they have every right to express their views. Any feedback is good for the artists, as it allows them to learn from it and improve.
To contrast the negative comments in this thread, I think this concert is very close to genius. The amount of spontaneity and true manodharmam, with the presentation is something I have not seen ever before. I also think that is important to note that just because he is not doing it the SAME as the current concert atmosphere, it is not inherently BAD. I encourage everyone to give this a fair chance before dismissing it as "ridiculous"
Sa ni dha ni sa, ni dha pa dha ni,dha pa ma pa dha= madhayama sthayi and adhara sthayi very very beautiful and very amazing to listening the Keeravani... Thank you very much..
Excellent Manodharma Presentation Presented by enjoying himself and made audience to forget everything. Drowned in the great Carnatic ocean. Thanks to Bharathiya Samagana Sabha for a great feast to all of us. Dikshitulu
Thank you for sharing this magnificent concert.TMK is allways amazing in his presentation. Arjun in his mirdangam had took the concert to the brim of ecstasy.
Excellent rendition. BMK's quality of singing is absolute Devine. Taking the listeners to another level. The co-artists are superb. I enjoyed the concert. Thanks to the organisers for the upload. 🙏
Simply outstanding...More power to You TMK. Singing like this is a gods gift and hence we pray for more blessings to you. Remarkable...Kanchi kamakshi was superb. Cannot be otherwise.
Extraordinary concert.... Keeravaani swara adhama sthayee to thala sthayee is very very amazing feeling... Very good violinist akkarai swarnalatha and mrudanga thani aavarthanam so silently... Kacheri migavum arumai.. Evvalavu murai kettalum andha Keeravaani alukkavillai!👏👏👏👏👏👏👏
The violinist - I think she is the best ever. I never thought anybody can match TMK in what he does best IMO which is staying in a particular line and doing enormous decoration with raagam for that line. She just went a step further and showed me there is a mile more that can be done. At places felt like TMK had to step in show his competitive nature !!! to see if he can best that.
Thiruppaavai very nice for coming tamil month of"Maarghazhi" May god bless you a Healthy,Wealthy,Calm and prosperous long life. Wow! Karpooram Naarumo! Fentastic!
SPLENDID , SUPERB DELIVERANCE BY THE BRAND AMBASSADOR OF CARNATIC MUSIC WHO WANTS TO PROMOTE THIS FORM OF MUSIC ACROSS ALL PLATFORM, HAD THE SATISFACTION OF HAVING A MARRIAGE MEAL WILL ALL INGREDIENTS SERVED ON A PLATTER, GAVE EQUAL CREDENTIAL TO ALL ACCOMPANYING ARTISTS, AND APPRECIATE THEM NOW AND THEM, THANKS TO THE ORGANISORS FOR EXCELLENT RECORDING BOTH AUDIO AND VIDEO, HATS, OFF TO ALL GLORY TO CARNATIC MUSIC
if there is any criticism, Dvisatopi gunaah kaamyaah suhrdopi na durgunaah. This is a great concert with slow and careful pace, except for a fast section or two in the varNam. Instrumentalist were almost perfect in letting the voice portion stand out clearly. All concerts should be like this.
If the Rasika’s accept SARVAM KRISHNAMAYAM , and it is the Lord who dwells in the Heart of All, this performance is a proof. The Lord Sri Krishna who dwells inside the heart of all , sings thro the Heart of Sri T M Krishna . A wonderful performance by Sri T M Krishna , and by all the accompanying Artists . Listen again and again, and it is nothing but PIPATHA BHAGHAVATHAM . When Sri T M Krishna is performing the Concert , it is not the Sri TM Krishna, but some Super Natural Power descents on Him, and sings thro him . Felt very sorry to see the educated, Rasikas , looking at the WhatsApp in the Mobile . MONI

In the Sahana varnam, he sings thaanam and Kalpana swaram. He has said before that he would not like to see varnams as just warp up pieces. Here it is.
It was an attempt for him...To me it's a slaughter. Nevertheless, he is my favourite. For his "NO God" sake, let him not bludgeon a varnam next time. Hope his intelligence works for good.
This is the perfect maniratnam movie. A big jigsaw puzzle where parts of the movie will be haphazardly arranged and viewer has to arrange all pieces together to make sense.
Beautiful concert given by Shri T.M. Krishna in the great “Thodi” ragam. Memorable. ArunPrakash gave a nice support to the vocalist in this song particularly. The violinist did play wonderfully. So too the Ghatam player. Congratulations to all. “Manian”
Thanks a Lot Sir. Number of seasoned musicians can sing 'the forgotten todi' - please do listen very very carefully with no bias. TMK is a kid - bachha - compared to yester yaer stalwarts - Dr Madhurai Soma sundaram ( Specially his concert with Dr M Chandrashekharan, where his Todi is simply supreme) , MM Iyer, Oleti venkateshwarulu, Sri Abhishekh Raghuram etc etc. BtB the concert of Dr Madhurai Soma sundaram I have mentioned is available on YOu tube.
@@sachininspright Ignorance makes public to think he is an intuitive singer. If people can listen , understand, assimilate yesteryear stalwarts, then one can easily conclude that TMK is a mere copy cat.
Can someone please list the ragas sung in the alapana by TMK and the violinist just before Ninnujuchhi? DId I hear some Suruti in between by the violinist? Excuse me if I am completely off the mark. Any information will be much appreciated
TMK Dhanyasi, then sornalatha played dhanyasi and move to Ahiri TMK continued with Ahiri and move to Suruti then sornalatha continued with Suruti and move to Devaganthari
