Thank you SO much for this video! I'm studying to be an MT, and my ophthalmology unit is driving me nuts because I don't understand! Now I do. Thank you for helping me take better care of my doctors and patients! :)
I never had the puff thing happen to me but I absolutely HATE the blue light, it gives me so much anxiety and I legit start sweating and I keep backing away and flinching and it takes way longer because I keep stopping her
I've had the applanation tonometry many times because I have glaucoma in both of my eyes. Every time I go to the doctor every 4 months he uses the blue light on my eyes to check the pressure. I like that better than the air puff test which I never had but I don't think I would like it. However the visual field always makes my eyes tired. And I've had a picture of my optic nerve before.
i dont get this, im assuming that tests were performed in rapid succession, yet the pressure in the right eye is 19 with the tonopen, and 14 with the puff test. does the eye pressure constantly change within a certain range of say, 10 to 20, all the time? i hope that question makes sense, its been bothering me a bit
thank you, the explanation was good. But i don't understand, with the tolo(?) pen Alison's pressure for the right eye was 19 and with none contact tonometer it was 14, the difference of 5 in a matter of minutes, how come? which instrument is more reliable? correct me if i'm wrong but it's said that if px pressures difference in 2 consecutive visit is about 5 then that could mean early glaucoma identification.
I went to the eye dr today. Had my eyes dialated, numbed, and other drops of eye stuff. Never in my adult of life have I’ve gone to an eye dr who was that crazy with eye drops! The procedure didn’t hurt at all, just the numbing stuff was irritating. I came home with the iodine all over my eyes, pupils as wide as saucers. I was like I thought I was just going I; for a normal exam! Lols.
Laura, I can certainly understand why you felt overwhelmed w/ the number of things your new optometrist wanted to do; it can be a lot! However, I’m thinking the reason the optometrist used so many drops, compared to others, was bec the new optometrist was actually doing a more thorough exam. If you liked the doc, I would suggest you keep seeing him/her. If for w/e reason you didn’t prefer the doc, I’d find a new optometrist who still performs all the tests. Ultimately, going to the eye doc is way more than just a vision exam; it’s a health exams, too. Ideally, we want to catch any eye-related health issues as early as possible, and that’s likely the reason your new doc did so much for you during your visit. 👀 Keep an eye on your eyes, bec we only get two.😉
why the eye pressure is too different in all 3 technics when the patient is same . I know 10 to 20 is normal em not talking about left and right eye ... the same eye
@ch12ag my opticians never do goldmann or tonopens, they just do the puff test. im in england though, we dont have a gold standard to compare to, so far as im aware. 14 times in one eye, and 3 in the other. thats how much i got blasted at my last checkup. christ, maybe i should get a tonopen and do it myself in the future XD
