SVS Subwoofer Review SB3000 vs SB4000 - How Good Are They?

This is a review and comparison of the SB3000 and SB4000. These models excel at nearly everything if you are looking for a sealed cabinet subwoofer. The 4000 comes on out top for all out performance but I would have a hard picking it over the 3000 just from the shear value vs performance perspective.

which one is better for music? I listen to a lot of bass heavy music and need some clean, crisp, and tight bass.

What a great and thorough review. Thank you. I've got one sb3000 in a 10ft by 13ft or 130sq ft bedroom and to honestly admit, my brain cannot fathom how impactful this sub is. It even shakes everything in adjacent kitchen and bathroom areas including walls. I'm using svs isolation feet to ward-off neighbours. I took it to a bigger apartment for a mini party. The sb3000 was frowned upon because it was overwhelmingly powerful and it wasn't at its highest either. Attendants preferred my previous sb1000 and accused me of wasting money for the sb3000 upgrade when it wasn't really needed sound-wise. My other half is literally afraid of the sb3000 and constantly protest for it to be lower which defeats the object of owning it in the first place.

Having a 1000 and 3000 as well I can say that the 1000 can produce the volume to an extent but it simply doesn't have the same quality of sound that the 3000 series has. Thanks for watching!

I Have the SVS Ultra 13subs that l bought 10 years ago and just recently did the plate amp upgrade with DSP phone app What a nice upgrade It looks almost the same as the SB3000 in piano black, but mine weights 90 lbs each

Hi Matt, just subscribed to your channel. Excellent comparison, very clear in your comments. I am undecided between these two subwofers, I am a lover of rock and the beating of drums, I seek to feel the sensation of kick drum chest beating in a live concert, I only listen to music on two channels. You mention it in your video, sb 4000 gives a little more kick drum hit, will it really give me more sensation kick drum hit the sb 4000? or is it not worth spending more on sb 4000 for that kick drum difference?

It’s not a really big difference for 2 channel listening, more for home theatre. I would generally say stay with the 3000, it’s the sweet spot, better yet would be 2 of them.

Great channel! Did you see Emotivas Black Friday sale on the RS11? What a steal! I got mine yesterday, and I am blown away by the build quality. It’s built like a tank! I also really like the looks of it with the matte finish. I wonder how it compares to some of the SVS models? 🔈👍🏻

Great review, I listen to 2 channel and HT. I think either will cover HT but am leaning toward the 4000 for better 2 channel, make sense?

Hello Matt, Thanks for the review. I am in the process of sourcing my next dual subs. Can you tell me the approximate room size you reviewed these subs in. Too often , this information is not included, so it makes it harder to use the information. I am in a 3000 cf room (17 x 27) that is isolated from the rest of the house. I am very interested in going with the dual sb3000's but I have no real reference to go from. Music first, HT second.

I never have , but I'd suggest calling SVS and discussing with it with Them . Personally I own sb3000 in ash and do Love It , just will continue to wonder what if . If I had the resources I'd probably pair sb4000 . Anyway try calling SVS and get some Professional Advice , P.S I've haven't ever spoken to any Pros . Very Well Enjoy, I do believe I'd stick with SVS , as I am satisfied and I Like the ash finish.

If they are both sealed it’s do-able. I would advise not mixing the ported and sealed though. If you already have sb3000 I would just stick with that line up and get another 3000 to simplify things.

Hi I want to upgrade my 3 sub to SVS. Would Sb 4000 be the front stage, SB 3000 at the back behind my sweet spot and SB 1000 at the center under the coffee table as it is small. Can the combinations be ok. Appreciate any advice before I purchase the 3 svs subs.

Amazing video. I’m ready to use your links but I’m so confused. My Room is 12x22 10 foot ceiling. I mostly want it for movies but use for light music listening as well. I’m looking to go dual and have a $1,500 and later on go with a 2nd with a other $,1500 as well

I would get the single SB3000 now and add a second down the line. The SB3000 is the sweet spot in their line up that really performs well.

good morning i would like to buy a subwoofer and i am undecided on which model to choose. i have identified the following models svs sb4000 and jl audio 112. I would use it mainly for cinema, which one would you recommend?

The 112 is a serious unit but I would consider it more if you were a 2 channel person rather than home theatre. The sb4000 should reach lower in the subsonic range if we go by the reported specs. The 112 has more stereo features such as a two way crossover. I have not had my hands on the 112 but I feel that you could save some money and get a little better home theatre performance from the SVS, you should even consider the sb16-ultra as I think it comes in roughly the same price as the JL.

In my personal experience you will get more from adding the second SB3000 rather than a single larger sub.

I had two 3000 and went to 4000 it was a big difference for me having a very large space 30 by 24 with 12 foot ceiling and the system is two channel only

1200 vs 1900 so it should, unless budget is not a variable I don’t feel it’s 700 dollars better for stereo listening, in pair configuration even less so. I can relate and understand your argument for home theatre though.

That's a tough one, you might get 3 different answers from 3 different people. Here is what I can say. The Rel will have the most connectivity options allowing you to use line inputs, speaker level or LFE. The SVS wont have as many options as but they do have a fantastic app that lets you tweak your sub from an app, makes dialing in your system quite simple and accurate. The JL while I know its a great performer I am unable to comment on because I have never had one here, would love to get one though as they are top tier in this category.

Hi,,, I'm big fan of your reviews... Want your help, Confused between SVS SB 2000 PRO Or SVS PB 2000 PRO. I use 25% for Music & 75% for Movie. I don't like very Boomy bass & to listen very loud music. Right now I'm using Polk DWS 550 Pro Sub with Polk Reserve series R600, R400, R100. Please help me out to decide which Sub will be good for me SB 2000 PRO OR PB 2000 PRO OR (3000 Micro or SB3000)...!!!!! Very confused Please reply, your reply will be great help for me...🙏🏼

My vote would either be the PB2000 pro or the SB3000. The micro is a bit limited due to size, especially for movies. The PB2000 would likely be the best movie performer, SB3000 is a good blend of musicality and home theatre duties.

I have watched your Emotiva XPA HC-1 Review & I liked HC-1 very very much for my Front stage (Polk Reserve R600 & R400 Center) of my Home theater system but I have to go for 3 HC-1's & that's the problem with space & money both so next best choice was Emotiva XPA 3, what is your take on that...!!! SB3000 vs PB2000?

Some people feel the 3000 series is where the biggest jump in hardware/performance occurs but sb3000 will still lose out on total output on deep extension to a ported 2000. That being said I would still take the sb3000 for my configuration as I prefer sealed for 2 channel.
