There's àlso a 5/8 inch p. block bearing , ? The new replacement bearings don't turn at all , why is that ...shouldn't they spin like a roller bearing ?
Yes there is also a 5/8" pillow block bearing , you have to be very careful making sure you get the correct replacement size or it will not fit the pipe in the middle . Also no it does not turn at all its simply allowing the pipe in the center to turn while it holds it in place . The spongy part which is the "pillow" allows the adequate play or bounce .
Those screws do not hold UP anything. They do hold the bearing in place on the cross support that DOES hold UP that end of the blower shaft. Moving the pillow block does not balance anything. It does align the blower, but it doesn't balance it.

I know this is old but if the brass bearing is not ment to move. How does it get oiled. I know the oil cap is there. But i dont see a way for the oil to get into the brass sleeve and shaft. Its supposed to be dry. Im nee to this i just dont understand how it works. Thank for the video its helping me learn allot
@@melanielaborwit8566 I just use the zoom spout oiler for regular maintenance... If your talking about after replacing the pillow blocks any grease will do ..it takes very little .
Damn it would have been nice if u would have started your tutorial at the beginning of your repair because Im looking at this thinking yeah, it looks different then mine and I think something is wrong with the way something is sitting in there but cant tell because you already removed the belt and whatever else so I dont really know fot sure but its as if my bearing oil or whatever is leaking out everywhere cus its all over the bottom like the day after putting oil in it winds up on the floor of the cooler right there next to the wheel.
Julian, I've had to grind off a lot of those phillip's head screws, on that 5001 ? , your working on, I use stainless hex bolts and stainless nuts, easier for me to service. Good video.
Damn good idea ..the phillips head starts to rust out and forget it ..grab the grinder lol I think ill do that with mine this year. Thanks for the tip !
Julian, before you remove the bearing, use a black magic marker to make an index line, ( on the bearing flange / frame ) on both sides of bearings cage base plate. When you reinstall the new bearing you place it between the two lines.
Very helpful video! I was able to get the new pillow block bearing on the rod in my AC unit. However, is the bronze / yellow metal ring in the middle (the one that actually contacts with the rod) supposed to turn with the rod, or does it stay stationery as the fan / wheel turns?
both. bronze is bearing as well. the idea is when the ball bearing seizes. the bronze will rotate keeping it from cutting up the axle. and allows you to hear the sound telling you time to change the bearings. brand new, bronze bearing suppose to look like not moving.
@@rynaitsorry I know this post is pretty old. So at no time any oil gets in between the shaft and the bronze bearing. Where does the oil go. I've been trying to figure out why is there a oil cap but to way for the oil to get to the bronze bearing and shaft. I'm learning a lot Thanks you
@@SeekFloor1 understood. I am in same boat with you regarding oil vs bronze. There are machinist saying those bronze is not "solid" metal. instead says is sintered bronze. Meaning oil passes through?? So, I just put oil in the cap and know oil does go somewhere somehow. The bottom line in my statement, if bearing seizes, the bronze sleeve will rotate with the shaft (aka stuck on shaft) making a lot of noise.
Thank you Suavecito 1999 . if your rod and hex nut and everything is in good shape you need to loosen the hex nuts and spin the squirrel cage till it balances out and THEN tighten the hex nut. As a matter of fact either on this video or the ather one I show you how to do it.
And throw it off balance while doing that ? If I thought it was that bad I would have sanded it smooth, but this is an old video and it's still running like a champ.
@@julianmartinez4479 -The replacement pillow bearings are of varying manufacturers. The bearings made in USA today are actually inferior to the Made in China. The neoprene that supports the Made in China bearing inside the bracket, is far superior to the cheap plastic foam Made in USA.. This last generation of USA students has not studied their engineering.. ;]

My friend im so sorry I barely seen your comment. If my memory serves me right on my cooler I believe its a 1/2 hp motor with a 3 3/4 motor pulley and a 11×3/4 blower pully . Yours could be different tho..hope this still helps ..
John Smith use the "jaw puller" watch my previous video showing how to use the jaw puller ..i dont know if yours has a hollow bar in the middle but if it does you will need a washer like the one I used
