Great video. When you went for that final pop of the roots I put the headphones on and turned up the volume. It's a great sound to hear when you've been working on a tough tree. That's when you know you've got it.

This turned out great, man. I think Calen's VO at the end was a good call and it's nice to see the growth on that Cypress. Go Bonsai!

+FuckUrTribute Thank you! I haven't started a redbud, the day will come. I share your love for them. I photographed some this spring that grow in Jackson Square. They are so subtle, most people probably never know them. There's more on they way. GO BONSAI!

+BONSAI HUNTERS im near Houston and I havnt seen them growing naturally anywhere.. plenty common in landscape here tho. iv been waiting to find just the right one in a nursery. Chinese tallow is the other on my "next" list. we have tons of them here but the ones iv collected so far havnt made it for one reason or another. they get great bark. and amazingly intricate branch structure on older ones. the leaves naturally grow into pad-like tuffs and reduce beautifully. lots of color to them, orange tones in the bark and new growth. great fall colors, especially if they have access to lots of water. very invasive tho(which only makes them sexier of course lol).

I have to ask something because i have heard many things. What time of year do you collect your trees in? I was told you can only collect them in the winter because any other time they will die. The other thing is when you collect your trees i see you getting a lot of them as just truck. So how well do they grow with having no growth on them at time of collecting?
@lamarhedden6527
@lamarhedden6527 8 лет назад
Also can any type of tree be collected as a truck and still put on new growth?
@bonsaihunters
@bonsaihunters 8 лет назад
If you're in a tropical zone go for it anytime. Otherwise only collect during the dormant season, if you collect early in the winter the roots are more likely to rot while sitting dormant all winter. If you wait until spring is about to hit and then collect, you'll have the best success! You can't remove all the foliage on most evergreen trees without nearly killing them, like juniper and pine. Hardy deciduous trees can take major removal of the roots and branches or trunk, like this cypress or maple. Thanks for asking and I hope you have the best of luck with your trees! #GOBONSAI!

Thank you for the info. Its so hard to get people to talk about Bonsai and give you any help. I also live in South Carolina and have access to a lot of trees. I am just not sure what trees will make good Bonsai in my area. I did find some trees that was cut by beavers so i'm hoping to collect them and give it a go.

That's a little big for a bonsai isn't it?
@bonsaihunters
@bonsaihunters 6 лет назад
sieve5 hey thanks for asking, thats what I said when I first meet my bonsai teacher Guy Guidry, but not all bonsai are small and in fact collecting and growing large bald cypress can be a blast especially if you enjoyed shaping flat top and redwood style trees! Please ask away if you'd like to know more! GO BONSAI!

giao hoang Tran nice try, but youre wasting your time, your comment couldn't be any further from the truth. Maybe you should use your passion wisely and protest a corporation that literally does destroy the forest.
