This is the American Swedish Institute's Swan Turnblad Mansion. It's been called the Swedish Castle by many. I understand now why. I heard about this place and decided to go check it out. What I found was a brilliant old Manor, Castle, Mansion, Chateau Style huge home with a mystery behind it!
I have heard that it's HAUNTED but I was not able to dig up any specific stories. YET! I am hoping people will see this video and if they have experienced anything unusual at this place, they will comment and let others know what kind of unexplained phenomenon happened to them. Or tell us what Ghost Stories they have heard about too!
Know of another haunted location in Minnesota? Leave a comment below. I might go explore it!

What was the mystery? A wikipedia article states the mansion cost 1.5 million to build, about 39 million in today's money. For me, the mystery is how did a Swedish immigrant from a farm family who worked as a type setter and later newspaper manager, get so rich so fast? The article never said that he owned the newspaper, just managed it. It did say he made some investments. He should have worked on Wall Street if he made all that money on investments.

Went to this place several times on class field trips, I will say, video does this place NO JUSTICE, all the craftsmanship that went into that place is just a wow factor all alone. 1.5 million goes along way back in those days. Should check out James J Hill House in St Paul. If you haven't already. That place is just wow too, super creepy...

Amazing video! So glad to have discovered your channel through Adam The Woo / The MOA episode! I've been to the American Swedish Institute and was instantly able to tell that it was haunted as I toured it. I didn't see anything, but, most commonly with me, I can feel it/the energy. Love the place and would love to go back: everyone there was so great and knowledgable.

Do you think you could take us on a tour of the Wabasha Street Caves? I'd love to see the inside. They say that place is haunted by several ghosts, including three gangsters that were gunned down there.
@erinbricker-urbanhistorian5803
That would be awesome!

Thanks for the video. It reminds me the mansions in Newport, Rhode Island I saw when our family lived there back in 1979-1980. If you really enjoy mansions like this, go to Newport, the mansions there are much larger with lots of antiques

This place e is definitely haunted. About 19 years ago ,I took my husband here for his birthday weekend celebration. They rented to rooms, like air bnb. Someone was playing with my hair and rubbing my back softly. When I woke the next morning, I thanked my husband for the nice back rub. He said he slept all night and he didn't do it. The ghost seem to find me. I have been to other places and when pictures of me are taken orbs are around me and I am freezing cold.

Incredible structure. Too bad it's in the middle of a city instead of out in the countryside, though.

Yeah agreed. I think when it was originally put up it felt more like it was in the country. the city swallowed it up.
