Thank you for your support and interest! Sometimes it's hard for us to feel the progress when things change gradually from day to day. And, of course, there are setbacks. Right now we have no hot water in our kitchen as the old hot water balloon has failed. But when we watch these videos its impossible not to get a sense of how far we've come.

What could possibly motivate you to mock someone admiring others’ dedication, work ethic and perseverance - especially when the goal is to preserve something of historic value for future generations? Videos posted to RU-vid are free to watch with commercials - you are not obligated to contribute. Rather than sneering at a passion project and the content creators’ need to request financial support, why not see what value can be derived from watching? Many of us here watch others accomplishing things we lack the wherewithal to attempt - yet do draw inspiration to tackle our own home improvement chores. France is unable to provide grants for the complete restoration of its beautiful, unique, neglected châteaux, as there are far too many in severe disrepair. Thankfully RU-vid has provided a means for “ordinary folk” to embark on preserving these stately homes that would otherwise have fallen to complete ruin. By chronicling the progress of the work, creators are able to derive a bit of income and drum up interest in their projects - which, in turn, leads to donations, discounts, volunteerism, and hopefully sponsorships. The alternative would be the grim demise of architectural masterpieces. How nice it would be for the super-wealthy to step in, overhaul a run-down château, and never need to ask for a cent. The truth is that many of the uber-wealthy have absolutely no interest in things of a historic nature: they’re self-indulgent, and only too happy to turn a blind eye to posterity. Regardless, were professional contractors hired to do the bulk of the work, we wouldn’t get videos to watch on RU-vid!

@@hayfire2 You must be a lot of fun to be around. While they may be "nurturing their hobby", they are also rescuing a significant piece of French architectural wonder from total ruin and leaving it for future generations. That's quite a legacy. Many people who wouldn't themselves take on such a monumental task are more than happy to support works such as these. I imagine that rescuing a beautiful but decaying structure is their real interest - not the actual work itself, and that's more than a lot of us can attest to.

Thanks for your comment. We are thrilled that projects like saving Château de Purnon are helping to safeguard these skills. We see the names of previous generations of roofers and stonemasons etched in our attic and on some of our walls. Some of the same family names are working on restoring the château today. Château de Purnon has an important place in the spirit of our local community.
