Swansea Jack - uncovering the story 

Thank you so much for compiling this video, Talfourd Davies was my grand fathers’ first cousin. Have shared with some of the younger members of my family. A wonderful piece of history. Thank you, Marie Dickson.

Really interesting. I was born in Kinley Street, St Thomas Swansea in 1960. My grandad lived two doors up from me. I remember him taking me on the tugs in the Kings Dock when I was just 4 years old. The Weaver building I remember and we watched it come down all those years ago. I’m proud to say that I am a Swansea Jack born and bred though I now live in Port Talbot. I look forward to the continuing story of Swansea Jack.

not sure whether he was a flattie, some accounts refer to him as a rough-coated retriever. I believe he was a curly-coated retriever. The majority of curly pics you see are show/breed standard trimmed. If not trimmed they develop a rough curly coat exactly the same as Jack. It is a fascinating story which as you say needs to be told.

Sure there is a house in penlan in front side of mynydd Bach school area you know card or plaque used to say jack lived here you can see docks on good day from hill up there can’t recall name of street but uphill opposite the shop just before before lights mynyddbach end of llangaffelach road which lines up with new cut road long walk straight line maybe they lived there far far away remember from my childhood that house jack lived here hope some help lovely dog jack was wish in our time to meet him but they say you meet him if drowning so

Im from Swansea, I was brought up in a city center pub, about 500 yards from the 'Swansea Jack' pub. I dont doubt that Jack saved a life, maybe 2. but not 27!. He was dead by aged 7. Its highly unlikely that 27 people would have needed help from drowning in 7 years anyway, but all in ear shot of Jack!? no way! Id love it to be true, but the more I think on it, the less likely it seems.

They drank in a pub opposite the Tesco marina store ex gas works site at an old pub site opposite in line looking out main doors Tesco’s also thinking of this road penlan dog used to live is roger street penlan iam sure in window amongst row of houses said swansea jack lived here check it out make inquiries hope some help lovely story of hero dog people named pub swansea jack also by Tesco am sure in olden day not sure if all names still there
