I LOVE THIS VIDEO SO MUCH :D I had so much fun swapping recipes with Beryl and making Matzo ball soup for the first time ever. it was delicious. Now that this video made me hungry, I think I'm gonna go make some more now...
I am so excited to see you in the very first episode! And with Beryl! it is so interesting to watch as another participant with experience of the behind the scenes. I loved your affection for matzo balls and your ideas for adding them to your repetoire.
I am German and my comfort foods are depended on situation cantonese egg flower soup, ginger fried rice and irish colcannon.... Sadly I can not have lasagne anymore.... Some dishes just have special vibes even if they where not in your childhood and you had to make and find them for yourself ^^
Mandu-guk is probably my main easy comfort food/weeknight dinner. As long as you have some frozen dumplings, eggs, and green onions and a few pantry staples its so quick to get on the table.
I love Beryl’s channel, I didn’t realise she had Jewish roots 😍 both soups look amazing and I’m definitely making them next winter to get that warm hug Maddie & Beryl talk about ❤❤❤
@@ntcssjbut she talks about her grandmother's cooking all the time! I've only seen maybe 20 of her videos across different channels, but I kind of picked up on it.
@@LindaC616 really depends on which vids, in most of her own it never comes up, but if you seen the potato vid or the one where this soup featured to, then yes one knows, but mostly she lets others talk about their culture instead of speaking herself
@@BerylShereshewsky not just food, but also culture and community with it. There is so much gatekeeping going on right now and claims of cultural appropriation, where they really do not belong and you found a way to connect people all over the world to finde commen ground in something as beautiful as food while giving a stage to people to share their own story and the cultural background to the dish . . . we would live in a way better world if this whas more commen!!!
What a great idea for a series. Pan Pals is a fantastic pun, props to whoever came up with that! So fun to watch personal recipes. Looking forward to the next episode!
Last year when I had leftover matzo ball soup/matzo balls, I seasoned the broth with gochujang and kimchi and made a kind of fusion soup. It was great!
Also, I (like many of us, it looks like) came here from Beryl's channel, but thank you so much to PBS for introducing us to Maddy! Going to watch her other videos post-haste....🍲
Hi Beryl!!! Hi Maddy! My fave comfort food is eggs and hash browns with hot sauce and iced coffee. 😊 But my favorite snow day food is probably country fried steak with gravy and mashed potatoes haha.
What a wonderful concept to exchange recipes! So well done. I love Beryl and her channel, so I knew this would be great. Looking forward to the upcoming episodes in this series!
Maddy is so right! Sujebi is one of those Korean comfort dishes that don’t get about as often as other dishes like kalguksu! Absolutely loved watching every single second of this 😭
This video authentically embraces their own heritage and comfort food, which is considered truly special. I love how their story reflects who they are. That's truly authentic and priceless.
OBSESSSEDDD with Beryl's concept of choice - PAN PALS omg so 😭💓 it's such a great feeling to have someone try a dish that is meaningful to you in some way (esp if they end up liking it)
This was a joy to watch! I love Beryl’s channel and it was fun to see her exchange a recipe with Maddy . Both soups looked so tasty and comforting . Can’t wait for more episodes!
Videos including Beryl are always the best. The more Beryl the better. I'm certainly gonna watch every video I can find with her in it. Thursdays on her channel are always a highlight of my week. And I also really liked Maddy.
Love this! Great seeing Beryl here as I'm a fan of her channel and the way she introduces us to new foods and cultural traditions around food. Really nice to see a recipe that she loves made by Maddy.
This video spoke to me on so many levels. It was wonderful watching the shared experience of making and tasting comfort foods that carry so much personal and cultural meaning. My dad's from Savannah, GA (descendants of Irish potato famine-era immigrants) and my mom is from Korea (now a naturalized citizen). My mom cooks by taste and feel and adjustment an endless variety of Korean fooda. My grandma (dad's mom) grew corn, snap beans, okra, tomatoes, cucumbers, strawberries, and squash in a massive garden; canned pickles / preserves, and cooked everything from scratch. Your matso ball soup reminded me of grandma's chicken and dumplings which involved a whole chicken popped in a pressure cooker until it fell apart and the bones were edible. The Korean soup vaguely reminded me of my mom's Mukguk (daikon beef soup6.
Oh, I love this! Food unites us all, and when we can find common ground - and hugs! - with good foods, anything good can happen. Also, both soups looked delicious! More of this kind of content, please!!
I love that your idea of spreading knowledge of others culture through food has made its way to PBS! Beryl, this is huge and I am so happy for you. Now I have to finish binging the other episodes available. 😊
This was great! I found Maddy through her kimchi review video and I have been watching Beryl for quite a while and use several recipes from her videos. I like the extended focus on two recipes - it's intimate and not rushed.
I love both Beryl and Maddy. I've been following their channels for a while now. I had to laugh when Maddy said she wanted kimchi with her matzo ball soup. As a Japanese American who grew up in a Jewish neighborhood with a lot of Korean friends, that is something that I do quite a bit.😊
Go Beryl!!!! I am pretty sure I have watched every single show you have ever made. I'm Ecstatic that PBS shares My love of all things Beryl. We deserve season Two!
I’m so happy to see this. So many of us have followed Beryl for years- as usual, I see Beryl, I click, subscribe and watch. Thank you PBS for bring this content through an amazing host!
Such a great idea!! You mention that food is such an easy way to get to know a culture and make a part of it live on. I have learned so many cool recipes! I actually brought the Columbian dish in the salad episode, “Clown Salad” to a family reunion and everyone(that enjoyed beets) loved it! It was cool to see older generations that are meat and potatoes sort of people branch out and eat a dish outside of their norm. I truly love this channel. I also think it was a polish dish that was incorporated into the strawberry episode that has egg noodles, sweet sour cream, and strawberries with sugar and that is my go to get high and feel fancy dish for some reason. Sorry to make this long, but you explain every dish so well that often, I need to experience it! This has been so helpful and also beautiful to watch how lit up you get as well as the people that get free range to be nostalgic about food growing up and such.
I gave a few comfort foods. Usually I go for sweet like a cupcake or cookie. If it's savory then it's fried chicken wings and baked southern Mac n cheese. I enjoyed this video. I've been trying to make more international dishes including Korean food. I look forward to seeing the rest in the series.
This was so cute lol I've been thinking for ages how Beryl reminds me of some wholesome old school food network hosts and pbs seems like the perfect home for her energy! Cant wait for more episodes 😁
I absolutely love this! I follow both of you and loved seeing you recreate each others dishes. I'd live to see more of this kind of content. So glad Maddie loved Matzo Ball Soup, my favorite comfort food. I can't wait to try to make Sujabi myself now!
