About 2 weeks ago I was in a horrific car accident with my fiance and 1 month old son, my fiance ended up requiring extrication from our SUV, I want to say thank you Sam, your videos gave me the knowledge to recognize my Fiance was bleeding internally and begin working on her before the paramedics and aircrew arrived, please never forget the impact your videos have on the world, from a normal guy who gets to hold his family still...thank you.
Make sure someone in the troop (2 is better) has taken the BSA Wilderness First Aid course. Here in the NE GA council the cost runs $110 for the 16 hour course. * Disclaimer - I am an instructor for the course. S9-101-25 Eagle Patrol
I'm 13 too and do exactly the same. I have a complete trauma kit, an IFAK and a haemorrhage control kit. I literally spent all me pocket money savings on this and continue to spend all the pocket money I get on enhancing that kit. People call me paranoid but I can't not do this now.
Hi, it's very interesting! I'm a French Firefighter so we do first aid and we have a terrorist attack unit. We only have a helmet and a plate carrier more than our equipment, we take the same bag like in all intervention so it's very interesting. Thanks you for this! Sorry for my English 😅
I got say I freaking love these videos, the production value and video quality just goes up and up, you’re extensive knowledge put together with your ability to edit makes amazing videos. Now that you aren’t armed for swat calls does that bother you at all? I’m not sure how I feel about not being able to shoot back.
Hey there, very interesting for me as a European is to hear about how different concepts in the US are. Having dedicaded groups to go in along with a SWAT team but not being SWAT officers themselves is something that was new to me. But seems to work well for you guys. Just two questions: how much liberty do you have, when it comes to choosing your gear? I mean, could you say: I'll switch over to 5.11 gear now? And the second question would be whether all the gear you carry is provided by your ems service or if you purchased some of the stuff with your own money. Be safe and healthy out there! Greetings Jan
I was thinking the same thing in regards to the medical gear, its cool stuff yes, but what happens when it's used. In Ontario Canada, the service you work for gives you the equipment, you don't choose and they replace it, just like how a hospital does their logistics. I like the gear shown, but I have the same questions as you.
Usually in the US it’s pretty free to choose your own stuff. Usually not the plates you wear in your plate carrier because that’s a more important decision that they don’t want you making, but they’ll give you some things you can’t buy on your own (I.e. medications you can’t buy without prescription), as well as tell you what to buy. This does vary across the country but most will give you certain things, tell you what to buy when they let you, and also let you personally purchase certain things as well
Great video as always. Curious as to changing the Leatherman multitool to a MUT. Given your detailed explanation of how you operate and are now not carrying a firearm in your role I think the Leatherman Surge may suit you better. I have both and would highly recommend the Surge for your current requirements. Give it a look at see what you think. It's rugged and sturdy offering an array of tools that are actually useful. Looking forward to your next video already :)
Thank you for these videos. I'm taking a first aid kit with me to protests, and your videos have been so helpful to dispel myths and wives tales on how to treat common issues. I think the biggest takeaway from all of this, is where my limits are and when I need to get EMS involved. To be clear, I'm not trying to pretend that I'm a suitable alternative for EMS. I just know that sometimes it's hard for them to get into the middle of a protest that has gone awry to grab people who need help. Would you consider doing a video for untrained folks that want to help bridge the gap and get people to safety and proper medical attention?
I love your channel... so much knowledge.... I wish I would have become a law enforcement officer earlier in life but hindsight is always 20/20, is it not? God bless you, PrepMedic. You are a good man.
As your Belt is Primary over either of your vests (light/heavy),, you should have your radio pouch on your belt. Your radio is the "biggest badest" weapon you can carry, as you can call for help, call for additional supplies, call in information that you see that someone else doesn't, etc. Having the headset cables on your vests isn't a big deal, since you can use the radio with or without the headset. Also, while doing SAR or other "rescues", you may not wear the vests, but will always wear the belt. As always, just something to think about.
Bro... respect. I don't think I could willingly put myself into a combat situation without a weapon... I've been in one UNWILLINGLY, and it fucking sucked. Of course, my experience wasn't domestic. Mine happened overseas, and if I never end up in a situation even remotely approaching that again? I'll die a happy man.
bro i am following you all the way from Fiji🇫🇯 .. I am a combat medic and we do not have access to those kind of belt and tactical vest. I was wondering if you do sell them, i would love to buy them. thank you for keeping us inform God bless and stay blessed always
Hi, I sent you a few emails over the past few weeks about a presentation for a SAR organization. I just wanted to follow up and make sure you received the email. Thanks!
Hey! Been a fan for a long time! That video was very well edited! What program do you use to edit your videos? Keep up the good work, Greetings from a German Federal dude ;)
what kind of pants are you wearing in this video. i've never seen the cargo pockets on the upper thigh. i like the look. been looking for something different. i work city ems out here in new jersey.
Hey Sam, thank you for you service. If you want to buy Leatherman’s at a discounted price, check out the Leatherman Pro program. It allows first responders like you to buy Leatherman’s for 40% off their regular price!
Thanks for all of the info! I have more of a professional inquiry and have sent you an email. Not sure if you'll see the post/comment of the Email first so I though- better safe than sorry. Thanks again. The only bad thing about your videos is that it helps me add items to my 'future purchases list!'
Hey man, so in your experience with the swat teams. What are the restrictions with gear? Are you allowed to wear your personal owned gear? Does it have to be a certain color? Does it depend on your team?
I wouldn’t work for an agency that doesn’t allow you to carry a weapon. I’m a SWAT medic in Florida, what the sheriffs agencies don’t understand is, that a SWAT medic that’s not in the stack is no different than a regular Ems unit staging down the street. In this business seconds can be the difference in life or death, not minutes. They’ve got to get the old ways of doing things out of their heads, I had to go to the same SWAT operator school they did so every stack should have a SWAT medic in it.
So while I agree with a lot of what you said, I don’t think you understand how we/other unsworn teams operate (I have been both armed and unarmed). This team also goes through the same SWAT schools as the team and will stack with them if the team will move farther then 30 seconds away from the bearcat or egress during the mission. Obviously it would be better for everyone involved if we were armed but that’s not what our hospitals risk department thinks and I am at least thankful that we can still be in a position to help our teams.
@@PrepMedic thank you for your response, I’m in a similar situation, I work for the Fire Department and I’m also on the SWAT team, admin on both sides don’t seem to agree with us being able to carry, however since our Governor has implemented Florida House Bill 487 we haven’t had any issues. You may reach out to your Governor and could possibly make some needed changes. I’m sure it was a hard decision for you to leave an agency that allowed you to be armed to go to one that doesn’t.
@PrepMedic hey Sam, what are your thoughts on having the med pouch in the small of your back like that? I've heard quite a few folks say not to run ANYTHING there and I've heard the reverse that as long as it's not hard/metal then it's ok.
Current in the service I have had the same situations when I first started out deploying. Then what I did was made sure the pouch I had I the back lined up with my plate carrier and doesn't stick out any further that it. So that way getting in and out of vehicles didn't become as hassle because it just extended the depth of my back versus just sticking out normally.
Hi, would you please tell me, what's the name or type of your TQ_holder, on your belt(left hand side of the extractive fak)? Thank you ~ Ps:I don't know how to search it on the online shop. That's too many type.
Hey, does somebody have an idea how you could get your hands on proper medical equipment (in this case a tourniquet) if you aren't living in the US (in this case central/western Europe, Germany), without having to pay way more for the same product. I intended to buy a CAT because I thought thirty bucks where fine, but in the end the price turned out to be $45 US on the official website, that North American rescue tells you to order from if you live in Germany.
I'd really like to get some basic eventually lifesaving medical supplies, but after all that shipping, customs duty and tax stuff, the price is at least 150% of what was being advertised and what I was expecting and that most of the time is just not affordable and counterfeits aren't an option.
@@PrepMedic okay, that's interesting. I've always heard (on CLS course for example) that hyfin isn't as good, and main reason for that is because of the not-so-sticky glue, which is much better on SAM- i think i agree with that. As far as i've seen, people dealing with tactical rescue for the first time, tend to use SAM more effectively, I think it's easier to "aim" valve over the wound than with the Hyfin "triangle". Unfortunately, I see a lot of people teaching CLS with no actual experience in saving lives on the field. Maybe you should make an episode about dressings/chest/hemostatics etc. comparing them to each other (e.g. hyfin-SAM-BCS-improvised). It would be very useful, I would for sure send it to my students who like tactical rescue a lot.
Hey Fonzie, I am an EMT in Ohio. The MARCH algorithm is more comparable to ABC or CAB than it is to DCAPBTLS, at least in my understanding. M- massive hemorrhage A- airway R- respiratory C- circulation H- hypothermia
@@charlesmilstead5754 thanks for that input, since the field is constantly growing and changing, it's hard to keep track of current acronyms and methods.
That's bullshit your a medic in SWAT you should be carrying a 8mm like your Sig Sauer 45 P320. You carried it as a deputy Sheriff. Our guys in Wisconsin are packing.
@@ltmundy1164 mm i suppose the tactical medic would carry less in genereal, these just seemed like the basics. But what I really meant was, you always bring the airway and the trauma with a tiny med pouch! but looking back I see that a tac medic would bring less in general, and would have to very carefully choose what that is.
@@akadopeboi: Decisions that are borne out during crisis are, at best, a reflection of the operator's history: Options that worked successfully in previous deployments tend to be reinforced in subsequent events. However, although Murphy's Laws always applies during any/all active operations, a tactical medic's focus must constantly remain on: Personal safety/team safety/public safety. Weight v speed is always a serious concern, but should reflect the team's primary goal: Expedient resolution.
So basically you're wearing all that for absolutely no reason as you do not carry a weapon. You should have a slick plate carrier and a medic backpack thats it.
So has your SWAT team done any no knock raids with a pocket warrant, on the wrong address? Shot anyone's dog? Thrown a flash bang so it goes off next to a child? Arrest anyone for not wearing a mask, not social distancing, or sun bathing? Taken someone's property because of suspicion (Civil Asset Forfeiture)? Anyone on your team kill an unarmed person and then got away with it because of Qualified Immunity? How many good people can there be in law enforcement when bad LEOs get away with violent crimes and the framing of innocent people? Anyone in today's law enforcement can only be described as a low IQ Knuckle Dragging Order Following Road Pirate that just does whatever their political overlord parasite tells them to do. Anyone that thinks they are good in law enforcement, that has not called out a fellow for committing a crime when known or witnessed, or who just follows orders without question, is a willing participant in this -ucked up system and part of the problem. The Tree of Liberty is thirsty.
You are an edgy moron. The tree of liberty is thirsty and its too bad we have only pseudo patriots with no real cause and entitled idiots with no life experience or education but think they their utopia will come once their foolish ideas of socialism and "social justice" come to fruition You snowflakes and fools wouldnt last a day in a true anarchist state with no law enforcement. I cant wait until people get what they ask for and see what happens when you take the teeth and bite from your law enforcement. You think things are bad and unjust now, you just wait.
@@chrishugs6173 When the government corporation all around us is attempting to destroy the founding principals of our nation and put in it's place the instruments of a beast system, then it is our duty to resist and call out those that do not resist. Government will not save us from government.
Hey Tommy, feel free to not call 911 for the rest of your life.....weird how people who hate the police and the government complain to that very same government to fix the problem they caused. I find it sad that every bit of good done by military and first responders gets washed away by people who would never ever step up to help anyone...except to get a quick pic for the 'gram of how woke they are. So feel free to not call and continue to not help your fellow man, women and children while bitching and moaning about an imperfect system you would never shed a drop of sweat, let alone blood, to improve. Oh, and make friends with the criminals out there who will eat you for breakfast as you spout off about shit you refuse to understand but pass judgement upon. When things go bump in the night, i hope you can still fit under the bed.
Ok, I love the Police, love you guys. But, you are NOT military, stop dressing and gearing up like you are in Iraq or Afghanistan. Stop wearing multi cam and full battle rattle like you're in a combat theater. You're not, so don't.
Mike, Rule #1: Opponents never play by the rules. Rule #2: We're the visiting team. Always. Rule #3: See #1. Any gear that better helps perform the job w/o violating standing orders, and keeps us from getting hurt/KIA is a go. Or would you prefer that we wear our hi res vests? And many EMTs/Paramedics/Tacmeds come from military service. Busting ours to save yours.
