Swatching the BlockX Aquarelles Watercolors [Full Range] [First impressions]

BlockX are handmade watercolors made by a Belgian company. They make paints since 1865. One of their claims is to make lightfast watercolors only, which will last for a long time.
Now swatching their full range of 72 colors, I was impressed by some of them, but I need further trying to be able to tell more about their quality.

Hi! You can see all the swatches in the watercolor database: sunandcolors.com/ There is a filter for brands, if you choose BlockX, you'll get the complete list. Have fun!

I have been looking for the Blockx Giant pan reviews and found your video! I hope you do not mind a comment about your swatching? You should have a black line a simple sharpie line would be fine under the paint swatch to show the opaque or transparent qualities of a color. Just a thought for your next swatching video. Thank you for showing us your Blockx colors and I hope to look for another finished art video.

Hi, thanks for the comment. I put all the swatches on the watercolor database sunandcolors.com , so black lines would not be very aesthetic. There you can also find opacity information. My partner and I work on updates, which at some point will include swatches, that show transparency too. Lightfastness tests are already included. See you!

really strong colours! I see that they dont do it on the UK site hopefully gerstacker will ship from their german store. The dot card is so affordable compared to the actual tubes I was surprised. I can wait for the full review!

They are! There is so much paint left on the dot card, if you like I can forward it to you after the review, so you can try them? The link to Gerstaecker was because I too couldn't find them anywhere, not even amazon and Gerstaecker was the shop I got them from, they also have the tiny palettes and the big pans of paint. :) I think Eve has one of the huge pans in her collection, but I'm not sure.

Das ist ja krass, wie grosse dots es gibt... ich bestelle mir jetzt auch erst mal die Farbkarte, schaut aus, als wären die mega ergiebig...

Das sind die auf jeden Fall und die Farben haben echt gute Qualität - habe eine kleine Palette davon, weil der Preis entsprechend ist. Aber kann die gut empfehlen. :)

It really is! It's a Belgian brand of artist quality handmade watercolors, which I found in the Gerstaecker shop and which I wanted to try out. :)

This is great and love the swatching. I'm not familiar with this brand, so I love seeing how others respond to them before I dive in. Also, I must say, I really enjoy listening to your narrative. Thank you so much for your kind comment! Now I'm curious, what you have drawn while watching ;) When it comes to new brands and investing in a bigger palette, I'm just like you. I watch many videos to see how paints perform. But I also invested in some dot cards for a little personal project (I do test all of the swatches I make for lightfastness and will add that to my blog in autumn/winter, when the test will be over). So having a big range of colors and brands was nice and it's something I can share with the community. Have a wonderful evening, Mike!

Is it my impression or do these magentas (PR122 n PV19) have a sort of cool undertone when swatching them ? They are so beautiful! They remind me of my cotman PV19 purple lake, like there's some sort of blue, almost shimmery undertone to them

You are right, but it might be my lighting here. I have a cool - daylight bulb that I work with, so the videos don't have a yellow lighting and it might have messed with the pinks and purples. When compared side by side the Cotman Purple Lake is a shade inbetween the BlockX Magentas, but very close. The BlockX ones were more pigmented though. ;) If you like to have a better comparison of those colors, I could make a photo of the swatches and post them on IG side by side. But I will soon also upload the BlockX swatches to my blog, the Cotman swatches are already available there scanned in. ;)

I'm glad you like them and find them relaxing - there are more swatches to come, so much I can tell you ;) The colors of the Blockx paints are really nice, that's why I want to try them out some more.

That Ultramarine Violet.. Perfect for a secondary violet blue between cyan and magenta
