Too right about just camping when you are ready. Great pictures reminding me of the nature of this day, I had mist and fog on this day. Stopped and camped just beyond GCHQ. One seriously tough day of up and down…

Looking back even after almost 2 years, I still remember this day, but it really was a great day. An amazing part of the trail. I’m heading back to the coast path tomorrow morning to pick it up at Lyme Regis. Looking forward to to it.

That section is a real tough one! Great video, we did this in May and it was sunny and 25 😅

I think it may be one of the hardest days on the trail but really enjoyable looking back. Great views. I definitely remember being shattered walking into Bude. And Hartland quay is a lovely area for a beer at the end of the day.

@@an9636 it was beautiful, I would agree it was the hardest section we had walked. We did it the same direction, some of those valleys were pretty steep. Loved it all though and a real accomplishment. Great camp site as well at the start, we camped there and it was superb

Great video. I have heard this is probably the toughest section of the coastal path

It really is a tough section. Another hiker I was talking to that day told me the elevation was more than Ben Nevis on that days walk. On the plus side I loved that area. North Devon was probably my favourite part of the trail so far.

@@portisheadjumpropeclub2276 thanks very much. A lot of mid cliff walking around south Cornwall. That’s not much easier.

Good video and it shows all the beautiful but really challenging terrain between Hartland Quay and Bude. We parted it in two in 2017 and stayed overnight in Morwenstow 😄 The total ascent of this walk is - according to the SWCP association's book: 1271 metres or 4170 ft. Which is a lot for one day! My Viewranger app measured it even more, but the official numbers are as mentioned above. Thank you for sharing this walk!

Thank you. That’s really was a tough day, but also one of the best. Beautiful part of the coast.

You know whats funny, I used to live in Peterborough and worked at a cement site with a few Peregrines, amazing birds but working they get so annoying screeching all day! anyway I moved to Hartland a year ago and see these all the time on the cliffs now haha! + around here just wildcamp where you want! obviously leave absolutely no trace though! I walked from mine to Bude on the hottest day last year, youre right, those valleys made it so hard too, was 35 degrees, didnt see a single person out, sensible folk (for context I ran hartland quay to bude last week in 2 hours 30 so fairly cardio fit). Good video mate!!

To be fair that area was hard work but one of my favourite parts to the trail so far. I’m back on the path late may. The plan is to wildcamp more. It was so hot it was nice to use the campsites and a shower. The plan when I’m back is to wildcamp more. I do feel it’s more accepted by people around the coast than it is inland as many of the locals even point out places to pitch. That a serious running time. Absolutely loved Hartland. Your very lucky.

Are you allowed to wild camp though? 🤔

Unless you have deep pockets for hotels it’s impossible to cover the national trails without doing it. Many have few and far between campsites some almost none at all.

I wildcamped 12 days out of 14 doing the first 230 miles to Hayle. No problem as normal. Pick a good spot, leave no trace, what’s the issue. A couple of time I was set up at 7pm but no one passing was in any way negative. Just make sure you are not in the way, damaging crops or sharing a field with cows are my rules. The single issue I had was strong winds changing direction in the night near Port Quinn. My great sheltered pitch on the cliff edge became somewhat breezy.
