Absolutely spot on with your comment about walking with a smile! I’m about to head down to do this bit (my fifth trip since starting in Minehead last October) and for the previous 14 days of walking I’ve smiled the whole way, with exclamations of “Wow!” at every new vista. The blue sea and cliffs on the last bit I did up to Port Isaac were particularly awesome. Great videos btw!
North Cornwall has some stunning areas as does the north coast in general. I will definitely be walking the north coast again at some point. Enjoy your hike.
Cheers Paul. Yeah the 2nd day did it really go to plan with the campsite I was after being closed for the weekend and being too late for the next site along. Hope the weather holds for you Paul. I really enjoyed that last section.
Hi there! Lovely to see what is on front of me. I will start walking on Tuesday from Minehead to Barnstaple for 5 lovely days. Last year I done from St. Ives to Penzance in 3 days, but have to say-this first section looks much easier. I'm planning do every year section after section to complete whole trail. Tomorrow pack up and Monday morning drive from Kent. Thanks and greetings. Tom
Great effort. Thanks for posting the videos, they've been good to watch and very informative. I'll be watching through these again as my plans for the North coast section come together for next year. All the best for your future travels.
By the time I get home from these trips and edit the videos I can’t always remember which picture was from which area, or I forgot to take any thumbnail pics for the day. Im calling poetic licence on this one.
So I do the south down way on the borders of Scotland if you want to a coast to coast path or the Pennines way. On up to Scotland capital. If you want good trail the coast to coast in Cumbria dose take in 3 national parks but it full of USA citizens this year you find that Scott coast to coast far better and easier to wild camping and the local so nice. With no more than 5 people a day to see. The uk coast to coast is jammed with walkers now so popular like the lakes area I live in for 7 years I go to Scotland for peace and easy camping have look at western border areas it the lakes with out the people as wainwright saw it
Starting my 2nd round of watching your SWCP videos. Unfortunately I can't "like" the video again as it just switches the Like from my first round off !😁You were lucky with the weather for most of the trail weren't you.
I had amazing luck with the weather. I usually let the weather decide where I hike and it was fantastic every week I booked off work so I kept at the swcp. The only time it wasn’t great was this May so I did ridgeway instead.
Congratulations! I have watched your videos along the SWCP and it has been really enjoyable to see how it looks and to have your conments along with the footage 😊 I have walked about half of it, and have now an idea of what is left 😊
Very well done on your mega achievement. I should have been doing it myself this year but things haven’t quite fallen in to place. I live in Poole and regularly walk all of these sections and that made this video even more special. Congratulations
Golden Cap is the highest point on the south coast of England. It stands at 191m above sea level and rewards hikers with magnificent panoramic views along the Jurassic Coastline. When you are in a RIB (Rigid Inflatable Boat) on the water is look even taller.
Well done on your achievement Andy. Its been a great watch. I'm going to start watching them all again. Looking forward to your videos from pastures new. Did you say a Scottish trail was next?
Good stuff Andy. I did enjoy the jokes about the shingle. Just wait till you get to Chesil Beach there is a bit of Shingle there. I would definitely recommend doing some walks in Scotland. There are many stunning places across the mainland of Scotland and the Isles. As a starter/taster have a look at Loch Ness 360° Trail or John o’ Groats Trail. The secenary in places is absolutely stunning.
Really enjoyed this Andy. I have SCUBA dived all that area from Portland Bill to Swanage. Had fun at Durdle Door and then a portion of chips at Lulworth cove.
Well done Andy brilliant achievement,,how long did it take you all together,,I was due my self back to Cornwall for my second stint two weeks ago Padstow onwards for two weeks,,but slight illness I have to out it off for a while,,but never mind ,,once again great walk should be proud of your self ,,all the best Stewart Devizes Wiltshire ⛺️🏃♂️🏃♂️👍
A great effort. I’ve completed the first week on the SWCP and only a hip fracture stopped me from coming back this summer. I’ve walked vicariously through your videos until I return. Thanks for the inspiration!
starting the path in September, hoping to do it all within 4x2 week trips during holidays from work. gotta say, your footage is really good! fair play for going to all the effort to film it all, must have been quite a bit of extra work!! will watch and like them all before we set off. great advice and info, so yeah, top stuff!! cheers!
Cheers thanks for watching. It’s a great trail. I’ve just finished it this morning. On the train home now. Enjoy your hike. Any question just ask, happy to help.
@@an9636 thanks mate 😀 in the process of getting our kit together. Will definitely reach out for advice. Will watch the last few videos this week after work. Well done on the epic achievement man!! Bet it feels amazing! 👊
Well said. All of us in East Devon hated that Ladram beach was ruined when Caravan park put up in the late 70's i seem to recall but farming was declining even then😮
It was a beautiful view with the sun coming up over ladram bay. The caravan parks do blight the area. Not going to lie they are useful to hikers but ruin the views.
That shingle is tough. My legs were like jelly when I got to West Bexington. The summer route was under water when I went throught, so I also had to stick to the beach.
I did look back on a video I watched before starting the coast path and they were in ankle deep mud on the summer route. Portland has a few diversions on the start of it when you get up on the cliffs that are not signposted very well Paul. I bumped into a local walking his dog that took me on a back route around them.
Finally I am. I apologise in advance these will not be my best work. It wasn’t the most inspiring section of the trail but I will do better for the remaining 44 miles.
Nice quick video, Andy. I'm getting bittersweet vibes watching you and Paul's videos. Pleased that you've both nearly accomplished it, but sad that it's nearly over. Enjoying every minute, though if I'm honest I've preferred the north coast more than the south. In many ways, I wished the path was typically done the other way around.
This was only half a days walk and a bit rushed to get to the campsite so I didn’t film too much. The north coast is so much better. More dramatic the south a bit bland. But the next stretch from Weymouth onwards looks impressive so looking forward to that in a couple of weeks.
Too right about just camping when you are ready. Great pictures reminding me of the nature of this day, I had mist and fog on this day. Stopped and camped just beyond GCHQ. One seriously tough day of up and down…
Looking back even after almost 2 years, I still remember this day, but it really was a great day. An amazing part of the trail. I’m heading back to the coast path tomorrow morning to pick it up at Lyme Regis. Looking forward to to it.
I like the way Andy you always personly,,reply back to your you tube comments,,some RU-vidrs don’t even bother good on you Andy well done Stewart wilts just subscribed ⛺️🏃♂️👍
Thank you Stewart. I think if people take the time to watch the videos and are kind enough to leave a comment, then you should reply. You’re often your own worst critic when you make videos so it’s encouraging when people leave positive comments.
Hi Andy ,,well done on all of your back packing and your Coastal Path Walking,,I just wanted to ask you what total mileage you did on that section from Padstow to your last destination,,why I am asking I have done Minehead to Padstow last July 2023 ,,so iam back again on the 6 July starting from Padstow for two weeks again hoping to do another 200 miles I just wander where 200 miles will take me from not sure myself all the best Stewart Devizes Wiltshire ps just come back from South Downs way ,,quite Brutal 👍🏃♂️⛺️
Hi Stewart. 200 miles from Padstow will take you to the St Austell area. Which is handy for a train station. South Downs was the 2nd trail I ever walked. It def a tough one. I’m probably doing it again in August as I have friends down that way and back on the coast path in 2 weeks fingers crossed.
Cheers Andy thanks for your quick reply,,looking forward to getting back on the SWPath in a few weeks time ,hopefully some good weather would be nice 😃🏃♂️⛺️yes you’re right some off those SDowns stages were tough you can’t underestimate that walk it will come back and bite you 😁all the best Andy look forward to your next outing Stewart 👍👍
Good to see you back on a trail Andy. Funnily enough I looked in on your channel the other day in case I'd missed any new videos. This looks like a nice trail. It's just missing the sea on the right hand side 😅. Have you made any plans to get back to the SWCP?
It does feel strange not to be on the coast. I was planning to get back to the swcp this week but the military range past Weymouth was going to be closed. I have time off in June and July so it just a case of getting lucky with that range being open. The ridgeway was a little boring if I’m honest that’s why the video is short. It’s mostly miles of long straight stretches.
I wanted to try a silent video for a while and this trail doesn’t really have much to talk about. Not much wow factor to it. It probably would have been me complaining if I had talked through it lol.
We laughed when you dropped to your knees on the shingle. We felt the same way on that section. After Sheringham we went inland and along the Cromer ridge passing Beacon Hill (highest point in Norfolk ) more woods with views out to sea then into Cromer. Just a thought if you do it again.
Thanks for watching. That has to be one of the best mornings walk I’ve done in that video. The weather was perfect and a great section of the trail through the beach and woods.
Thanks for this. Your film has got me in the mood, I just booked my train ticket for next week. I was going to do the Herriot Way but I’ve been advised that it’s currently waterlogged along the river sections. Thought this would be a nice alternative.
Thanks for watching. It’s a great trail, easy going and should hold up well in wet weather as the paths in many places are hardcore to help ease erosion. Enjoy
I live on the norfolk coast path, youd have been fine camping on or close to the beach by Weybourne- sheringham . Its common for fisherman to camp out on the beach all night fishing. Its not an unusual sight at all. Burnham overy staith.....different matter, there's wardens that patrol that part of the coast, and will move you on.
I heard about the wardens on another video. I did think about a beach camp but there were plenty of people fishing and I wasn’t sure about the reaction I might get. Good to know if I do the trail again 👍
Difficult to remember as it was so long ago. Think I left the hotel about 9am. It was a 2 mile walk back to the coast and finished around 5/6pm. Wasn’t in any rush and stopped for dinner and a few pints along the way. It was an easy section i memory serves as so much flat walking along the way.
Hi there - I enjoyed this video. I walked Bude to Crackington Haven and then Crackington Have to Tintagel over a two days at the beginning of August. Your video is the only one I've seen where hikers recognise and mention how hard these legs are. I still have Tintagel to Port Issac to do which hopefully I'll get under my belt in the coming weeks. Quick question. You mentioned either stockings or leggings. Can you tell me what they are, please? For the most part I like to hike in shorts (air around the legs), but for sections where there is a lot of undergrowth/nettles/thistles/etc. some protection would be good. Thanks, Keith
Hi Keith. I was warned about that area before hand so I thought it worth mentions how hard it was. To be honest it was one of my favourite areas despite how tough it was. Port Issac to Padstow is one of the easier sections when you get that far. I wear long leg compression sleeves. They are on Amazon for around £13. They are like tights so you don’t have to strip down to put them on and off. They are great for overgrown section or just to keep the sun off your legs. Much easier under overtrousers in the rain also. I also have arm sleeves for when the wind is chilly but to warm for a long sleeve top. Hope this help. Enjoy the trail Keith.
Nice one Andy. How do these other paths compare to the SWCP? I think you said on one of those videos that you'd "peaked" too soon by doing the SWCP. I'm back in Cornwall for the next two weeks to do some more sections of it and I kinda feel that there's nothing better than coastal walks (regardless of ascent) with views of the sea.
Nothing has come close to the coast path To be honest. I’ve had 2 videos for the north downs for months and haven’t put them up because it’s difficult to make them look good compared to the coast. I was going to finish the coast path this summer but decided to leave it till next year. I’m just not ready for it to be over lol.
@@an9636 "I’m just not ready for it to be over". I know exactly what you mean and feel the same. We've only been doing the Cornish sections at random during 1-2 week stays in September for the past several years and have nearly done it. We've only done about 400 yrds of the Devon path.. we parked at Welcome Mouth I think it was and headed in the Cornwall direction. So I suppose when we've finished Cornwall we'll move next door.
I loved to Falmouth to Plymouth section of the coast path particularly Looe to Plymouth (although Portwinkle to Freathy wasn't the best section) I loved Freathy and went back to stay in one of the cliff side cabins over new year :) Another great video, thank you brings back my memories of that section.
It really is a tough section. Another hiker I was talking to that day told me the elevation was more than Ben Nevis on that days walk. On the plus side I loved that area. North Devon was probably my favourite part of the trail so far.
