Hey, Marley! Love the tip on being careful about procrastinating and rationalizing. Applies to a lot of us for lots of different things. Also, that final shot was beautiful!

Yes I agree! And this location was incredibly beautiful. The last one in this series is going to be landscape painting also.

I love this episode!! ❤ hows your hand?? Ouch but so glad you caught it. I would've done the same. I adore snakes. Definitely was always the weird girl growing up. My dad and I would catch all the critters. 😊

Almost no residual pain or anything. Better than a paper cut. One of my life goals in my education work with youth is to help normalize interest and appreciation of snakes especially with girls. I work really hard to combat the cultural gender stereotypes around what aspects of nature girls and boys are supposed to be interested in or afraid of.

A trick you might try when you find yourself procrastinating in an otherwise beautiful location is to pick a random number from 1 to 30, then tell yourself to you must stop after that many steps and nature journal whatever you find in a 360 at that spot. (Maybe a randomize spinner app on your phone will help you pick the number).

Hey my google image search thinks that snake that bit you was a OXYBELIS AENEUS mexican brown. (Non venomous) is that was you think it might have been?

Definitely in the Oxybelis genus. Many of the snakes in this family (colubrids) once called non-venomous are now called not medically significant. Venom is more of a spectrum than previously thought, venom delivery is also more of a spectrum. So for example this species I believe is rear fanged and mildly venomous but not medically significant to humans. Hope that makes sense. I think the moral of the story is that, as usual, nature is more complicated than we thought.

@@MarleyPeifer I hope your hand is ok, and venomous or not, you should be concerned with bacteria that may be present in the snakes mouth. I've heard it's the deadly bacteria in the mouth of a monitor lizard that makes it so dangerous and even bites from humans and pets should be checked by a doctor (for the same reason). Take care when handling nature.
