Hello my friend, yes it is horsetail. The thickness is approximately 1.8mm, 2.0mm and 2.5mm. I tie the ends first, then I twist the hairs so that there are no loose hairs in the string, and that the hardness is just right...
I don't count the hairs, but take a little more horsetail first and then adjust down to a good sound. String 2 usually ends up at about 2mm when it sounds the way I want it to. Some hair comes off while making the string too @@OctoberRats
