I saw an interview with her and she was saying that she since a child had always wanted to be in a musical but didn't sing, other than in the bathroom, lol. When she was preparing for this role, she worked with a vocal coach for 3 months and said she worked her a$$ off. I personally think she sounds like a natural and is amazing! Anyway, I thought that bit was interesting and wanted to share. 🙂
@@omichillian what are u talking about? yes, some of the song do have dark humor in it like by the sea, a little priest, and the worst pies in london. but its not some sort of dark comedy movie. its dramatic, depressing, and horror filled. but songs like my friends are deep and depressing. theres nothing funny about a man that’s lost his family and has so much hatered and is always obessing over revenge that he goes so insane that he just wants to kill everyone and use their bodies as the meat in pies and make a business out of it.
Its a Victorian Era swimsuit, back then most people didn't live near the sea or ocean unless they were living within a colony (Miserable and dangerous) Most lower class citizens would swim naked since it was rare to catch other swimmers, the idea of a zone of beach reserved for swimming was scarce and almost unheard of. When it did happen of course societal norms were put in place, such as restricting people to wear clothes. And Bathing Machines (changing rooms on wheels), swimsuits existed for two reasons, so you didn't ruin nice clothes and swimsuits weren't meant to be seen in public. It might be incredibly modest now but back then the suit Depp is wearing is almost naked.
@@saklee1777 Shorts weren't considered revealing, its one of those weird situations where it bothered people for some reason. The funny part is this triggers people, one of the articles I read the writer was flipping out over it. Not in interest but acting like this was humanities greatest sins. Yes being forced to change inside of a changing booth in an era where children are working in coal mines and that is if they got lucky...

Love this scene. Just shows that Sweeney Todd could never be happy with Mrs. Lovett. She still has a possibility to move on and live a nice life, but he doesn’t. She dreams, and his dreams are over.

this is the funniest scene in the movie. i couldn’t stop laughing throughout the song. i freaking died when sweeney put his hand on mrs lovett’s lap and then put it back. lol
I like how at the very end the warmth disappears, the smiles fade, and it's just paints a very grim picture. As soon as I saw that I was like, "ah.... This isn't gonna end well" (And then before anybody tries to mock, no, not everyone saw or even knew of the stage musical)
@@geraldpfeffer nope. this scene and the sweeney todd’s flashbacks are the only parts in the movie that have color to them. the rest of the movie is all grey and creepy vibes. this is the funniest scene in the whole movie though. even in mrs lovett’s fantasies about a nice life with sweeney, he still doesn’t look happy and pays no attention to her lol.

I know Mr. Todd had his mind preoccupied with his revenge and his little blonde wife (these roles always put him with girls he doesn't seem to suit, as in Sleepy Hollow, Dark Shadows and this), but my goodness! He and Mrs. Lovett could go together like peas and carrots if he'd open his eyes to her loveliness! She's all ready to be the loving wife he needs.

this is the funniest scene in the movie. the beach part i find 2nd funniest part of the song. the first is when he puts his hand on her lap and takes it right back. its kills me.

People are commenting on how Sweeny is, even in her fantasy, painfully uninterested. There's several possible takes as to why the scene is presented this way. (a) Just to make it even clearer that this is utterly Lovett's fantasy and Sweeney is utterly incapable of finding joy in it. The contast is undeniably hilarious, so that helps too. (b) Sweeney's brooding and gloomy nature is part of what makes him so attractive to Mrs. Lovett. A happy Sweeney Todd would actually be less interesting to her, she likes Sweeney being gloomy and depressed. So it's essential to her fantasy that Sweeney be unhappy. (apart from occasional romantically poignant moments like the wedding) (c) Sweeney's mood is actually unimportant to the fantasy. Mrs. Lovett wants a life by the sea with "a" husband and child, entertaining guests, and how said husband and child might actually feel about it doesn't really enter into her thoughts--hence why Toby, too, in the sunset scene, is equally uninterested and emotionless. Lovett isn't dreaming about them all living a happy life together, she's just dreaming about *her* happy life, which doesn't actually care about whether Sweeney or Toby would enjoy it.
just think, what would sweeney even do if he actually got his revenge and lucy actually did die from poisoning herself? would he still be killing his clients and having mrs lovett make them into pies and selling them? cause he went insane through his hatered for turpin and revenge but after finally getting revenge do u think he would still care about kill other people? i know he said everyone deserves to die and he’ll kill them but would he obsess over it after finally killing the person he wanted to kill the most?

yeah ur sooo right i always say that if she hadn't told him that his wife was dead he wudnt have done all that cuz whn he came back he wasn't willing to kill anyone he said that he spent 15 years dreaming to come back to his wife and child so i think that if he had known that his wife was still alive he wdnt have killed anyone and just tried to get his daughter back from the judge but in that way there won't be SWEENEY TODD : THE DEMON BARBER OF FLEET STREET :D
nah, even if mrs lovett told sweeney the truth, he would go find lucy and try to get johanna back but he’d still try to kill turpin. he just would be a little less obsessed with killing him. but probably the only way to get johanna back would be to kill turpin anyway
Hearing the Broadway original where Mrs. Lovette explains her connection to the sea before singing about it makes the part at 1:09 - 1:23 feel awkwardly empty.
