Excellent!! He loaded the guy up on his back foot, got the guys chest to be right over his knee then shifted weight and fully committed. Outstanding move!
This was my signature move in the 80s. If you know what you are doing, it’s almost unstoppable. This kid forced it. If he was wrestling a very experienced wrestler, he would not have completed this move. Fortunately for him, his strength allowed him to somewhat finish it.
@@jef4275 A cradle can lead to a pin, which is why one would use a cradle. I personally disliked the cradle as a good wrestler could counter it fairly easy. But like the gator roll, there is an addition to the cradle that is nice. From the top position, putting the person in the cradle move, as they fight to not allow you to roll them back, you use their momentum rolling forward with them (while in the cradle position), hitting them by surprise. Although I wasn’t a huge fan of the cradle, I did use it a few times with the slight change described above. Like the gator roll, if you don’t force it, but understand by feel when to use it based on their own momentum, it’s beautiful and a complete surprise to the opponent and spectators. But I’ve seen way too many wrestlers not understand the mechanics and try to force a gator roll that left them on their back, where their opponent was able to pin them or score back points.
Yeah I was taught originally that it was the circus roll but I always liked the idea of dragging someone to their death like an alligator so I started calling it that 😂
@@jackshiraq575 the thrower had control of the guys arm too so it wasn’t just his neck. If it was just his neck then I feel he should be DQed and suspended if not banned.
False. The best counter is keeping your weight back and your legs properly positioned under you. This gator roll was forced AF, and a decent wrestler who just so much as keeps good weight control covers the body and turns getting pinned to being the one doing the pinning.
I believe this is called a "cement mixer" in folkstyle. Seeing as how he didn't count two points for the roll, I'm assuming this wasn't freestyle. Sick move, though!!
Bait with a chancery? I was under the impression that the chancery lock was exactly what I was doing prior to hitting the roll. Looking back it wasn’t too bad of a move for a sophomore wrestling up two weight classes 😂 appreciate the criticism though 👍
he had him extended. When you have your opponent stretched out like that, he has no way of stopping the gator roll. It's free, even if he knows it's coming.
Its soooo fun to hit that. XDD ESPECIALLY when you spin real fast with momentum, feels sooooo good. Also when girls sees that, they loves it, which makes happiness up by x10
Yup, this is a weird attempt at a crossface. The only time you can actually hit someone is here to move their head to a better position, but it ended up not working.
Tu przylad jak zlapac gator roll z headlock. 1. Zawsze obracac tam gdzie zlapana reka 2. Najlatwiej zlapac headlock gdy przeciwnik wchodzi pod nogi 3. nei robimy gator rolla w pozycji stojacej, najpierw sciagamy przeciwnika na kolana
Question about that. ... i never did wrestling in highschool (my school never offered it) but i do other martial arts (right now jiujitsu) ... shouldnt these guys be wearing stuff representing their highschools? They look like theyre just wearing... practice or training ones?
@@MatthewLarson578 Probably blew someone. How could someone equate wresting to a bad movie? Perhaps they have never fought anyone, or wonder what they are, or can be?
@@ngo_3103 2004ish. There were kids who got severely injured like a broken neck from that move so they banned it until high school wrestlers. Banned for little league
Countering a gator roll is something any decent wrestler can do. Can tell his opponent isn’t the most experienced. Looked lost. 99 times out of 100 if u try to gator roll me ur ending up on your back mid roll
Ugh this unlocked forgotten memory during my time wrestling at South. Watching the guy in blue wrestle was comedy gold 🤣 I respect him for trying all 4yrs but damn he was bad
Interesting. I have never seen a poor wrestler (defined as one who would get Gator rolled) have the skill to change the outcome. Usually a guy rolls you to show off before he sticks you. LOL
It works at top level opponents but you need to have clean technic and be aggressive with the front head and arm. This kid definitely wasn't taught how to do the move clean.
@@brentyoung2310 I’m really trying to understand exact things that I could have done better please post a video of the “correct” way to do this move oh wise one 😂 I was a sophomore at the time and my technique was pretty trash and I had no real offense and my hand fighting was still subpar but based off of watching this if the guy is giving you the move, you take it 🤷🏻♂️ no need to read into it I didn’t need to break him down I didn’t need to apply forward pressure to get him off his base all those things were already done so again please explain where I went wrong 😊👍
