I just recently read the series for the 1st time and absolutely loved it. It was much darker than I anticipated since the trailer didn't seem dark. I'm really looking forward to how different the series is from the comics. Love your review Austin👍
I thoroughly enjoyed the series. When I started to watch I didn’t have any expectations because I hadn’t heard of the comics and just looked for some distraction. Therefore I was really surprised when I found myself watching my favorite series of the year so far. I especially appreciated the great chemistry between the two protagonists who on my opinion did a good job and really got me involved with their characters. So I hope for a second season. :)
Loved the show. It is indeed charming, darker than expected based on the trailer, but also hopeful in the face of so many terrible events. THANK YOU for pointing out there are things that may be too much for kids - I'm seeing way too many reviews calling it "family friendly" and people reacting to that news by planning on watching it with their young children. There are 2 big issues that would have REALLY upset me as a kid.
Im honestly worried about getting invested into another Netflix show. They have become all to comfortable with canceling things.. especially after only 1 or 2 seasons, and leaving little to no reason why.. Really lost alot of confidence in Netflix lately.😒😔
I feel the same way! Not sure if you watched The Chilling Adventures of Sabrina but they canceled that even though there was way more story to tell and left it with a weird cliffhanger type ending… yet they don’t cancel all the stupid shows that no one cares about.
@@ColtWesson Agreed but interesting to see the conflict he faced knowing the only way to save his wife is by obtaining dead kid/animal hybrids but would prefer a more humane way. But laughed out loud over the part with Nancy and his horse.
My favorite storyline is Gus and Jepperd’s for the simple reason that Gus is adorable, I love deers and I love children, and Gus is a combination of both so I love him.
I finished watching Sweet Tooth yesterday with my mom and lemme just say: (spoilers below!) I’m so glad Gus' mom is alive and I was surprised to find out Wendy(?) was Bear's lost sister,I feel sorry for TJ too for losing his family :/
The comic was pretty great so I'm interested to see what they do with the show. The trailer came off very hopeful and lighthearted, which is far from the tone of the comic. Hope it does the source material justice. It doesn't necessarily have to be a 1:1 comparison.
Binged the whole thing tonight and WOW! A relatively slow start but the storyline, casting, acting...... One of the best "random clicks" I've ever found on Netflix! Absolutely superb
The trailer got me excited and looks promising. I just hope Netflix gives it a chance. They been getting kinda crazy with cancelling shows like Jupiters Legacy and The Irregulars. Its nice to see a different of comic book show. Good review Austin.
Just finished the season. I am so ready for what else this series has for me!!!! I thought it was going to be a cute movie. Then found it was an 8 ep series today. After watching all episodes I knew Netflix in standing on a hit! Will Forte!? Nonso Anosie!?! Adeel Ahktar!? If theses aren't household names by 2023 I'm going to be upset.
You know.. I had to pause a few times during the first couple episodes, just to *breathe* and sort of have a moment to.. stop tearing up. I didn't realising how traumatic covid was until watching this show through another lens? (If that makes sense) I think the PTSD we are all going to have/have from 2020 is just setting in. I had goosebumps/sickening feelings during some of those scenes.. it's crazy the depths of what a pandemic can do to our brains. We've lost friends and family, and this show seamlessly wove through the nuances of the horror that we ACTUALLY lived through. It touches on post-apocalyptic horror in a beautiful, and emotional way.. and the "not accepting your human/animal side" being a poetic layer for the many children out there who are biracial not being able to accept one side of their race for another was a much needed topic to discuss in major media. I just finished the last episode, and even though I typically dislike "children's shows" I'm glad I clicked it, and gave it a shot- because it was NOT a show for kids.. it was very much adult themed. I wish the marketing was a tad different.
I have not read the comic but I really loved this series! Sure there are dark moments but it doesn't get too dull. I know the comic has a darker tone to it but I like that the show has a more positive focus (even though there are some really dark moments in the show, but it does not ruin the mood af the series as a whole). The chemestry between the main characters is amazing and it didn't take long before I fell in love with Gus' character. I was worried that having a child as a main character would become annoying at some point but I was pleasantly suprised when that didn't turn out to be the case! I really hope we'll get more seasons of this series!
Just finished the first episode, way better than what I expected. I saw that it was a dc adaptation produced by team downey starring will forte (who is one of my all-time favorite snl cast members) so i was like sure i might check it out. And i've seen only one episode yet but it convinced me to watch the rest of the season.
Watched it all didn't hate it but didn't like it either. Loads of character development good acting etc etc but felt drawn out in parts with of course a whole season with almost zero resolution or "maybe" a kinda clue! If season 2 is like this it will lead to a long drawn-out story and then get canceled with a rushed final chapter if any, wanna bet! Predictable at times with it being tv14 I think, for example big guy ( if ya watched it you knew what was going to happen in the last episode). Loads of plot holes( for instance "the crumble" really didn't crumble, they have electricity etc etc.. Should have named the first season "Search for Mama" The main kid is cute, story so far Meh.
yeah, that character kind of turned the show into part cartoon. But because Bobby doesn't seem real and we know it is child/animal hybrids that are being hunted and killed to cure a virus, then maybe that character is used so we don't get too messed up emotionally. I don't know. But prefer seeing the other animal/human characters like the ones at the zoo.
Finished watching it and loved it for the most part. The only thing that bugged me all season specially towards the end is that the only thing driving the plot forward was Gus just getting into trouble every 2 seconds. Way too many conveniences that were made possible because of Gus couldn't stay still for 1 minute.
@@ThanhNguyen1501 I'm not saying his behavior is out of character. What im saying is that the writters only device to move the plot forward was Gus messing up.
I was really hopeful after the first couple episodes, but I truly did not give a single shit about anyone's storyline but Gus. I was ready for it to be over by the time it was.
The music is amazing. I’ve only watched the first episode by I am thoroughly moved by these characters. Also can you e get respect for Pubba just doing his best to protect Gus
Most post apocalyptic shows are about teens and adults... Gory, disturbing, dark, etc. But this show carries an essence of pur innocence. It threw me off. Love the show!
just finished it, didn't pay attention to the episode count because I was so hooked. Found myself so angry at the cliffhanger. I swear to god netflix, if you don't renew this I'm finally done
After reading the comics (after the show) the cannadian big guy coalwashed aside - the narrator is the Sweet Tooth after he marries the big - the Netflix thing is still better as the art is crap in the comics
I've read the comics & it's one of most favourite comics ever. So I know everything & I doubt they will do justice to the comics. Case in point, the narrator, there is no narrator in the comics so I do not like that at all. It's a disrespect to the story itself. Please read the comics, you'll love it more tham this series.
NGL kinda was stunned by how good looking you are…😳 I know, total cringe, but I could not *not* say anything… I was instantly hooked on this show it was NOT what I was expecting. I thought it was a movie about some magical deer kid or something. I was not expecting a Walking dead hybrid show
Just watched it… finally. After being in my watchlist for a while. I was expecting it to be more fairytale, kinda like “where the wild things are.” But nope! Completely different and far deeper. And I’m really blown away. Can’t wait for the second season.
I finished watching it and I thought it was amazingly good the plot was good with three stories but it's mostly on Gus , jepp and bear. Each characters have a backstory
I'm not reading comments because I'm afraid of spoilers, thank you for not giving any in the video. Starting on episode 4, and I had to look at a review, because I'm surprised I like it too! It just was first suggested when I opened netflix, and I figgured OK, looks pretty dumb, but I'll see what it's like. It took about 20 minutes of getting past the silly way hybrids looked, but then I got sucked in. So far, the only thing I don't like is that there are a ton of missing pieces I hope get answered. Are people going extinct because they can't have normal kids? How did the hybrid babies age and be able to now be running around in the wild being hunted down? What are their lives like? I know I still have some watching to do, but there should of been at least a hint or two by now to fill these gaping holes.
